Fact box: Yuma tee times in winter: how visitors get good times from January to March

Yuma tee times in winter are easy to book in the afternoon and hard to book on popular mornings from January to March, when visitors, leagues and passholders fill the sheets. Booking windows run from 3 days (Butterfield) to about 14 days online (Mesa del Sol and Coyote Wash), so know when each course releases its times.

This guide lists every course's booking window and cancellation rule, the mornings that leagues and passholders take, and the habits that get visitors good times all season. Rules were checked on October 23, 2026 and can change, so confirm when you book.

Quick facts

  • Longest window: about 14 days online at Mesa del Sol and Coyote Wash (the town brochure gives Coyote Wash 7 days by phone or GolfNow).
  • Midnight release: Desert Hills opens each date at 12:00 AM eight days ahead.
  • 7-day courses: Las Barrancas, Foothills Executive, Foothills Par 3, Yuma G&CC.
  • Phone only: Arroyo Dunes, Cocopah Bend, Butterfield (3 days), Fortuna Del Rey.
  • Hardest times: league and pass mornings, January to March.

Who holds the winter mornings

No rule hands every winter morning to members, but in practice the best morning times go to three groups.

Leagues. From about October or November to March or April, weekly leagues take set mornings. Las Barrancas has the Silver League on Tuesday and the Women's League on Wednesday. Mesa del Sol's ladies play Monday and Thursday from 9 AM and its men's association Friday from 11 AM. Cocopah Bend's winter clubs play Monday to Wednesday mornings, and Coyote Wash runs shotguns on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Our guide to Yuma golf leagues has the full list.

Passholders. Mesa del Sol's winter passholders book on their own page and take big blocks of the sheet. Its pass terms limit passholders in prime weekday times, about 9:00 to 10:37, which is when public times are easiest to find there.

Members and events. Yuma Golf & Country Club is member-owned, so expect members and member events to take priority in winter. Mesa del Sol closes to the public for outside scrambles on some Saturdays (for example Nov 7 and Dec 5, 2026).

How visitors still get good tee times

  1. Book the moment the window opens. For Desert Hills, that is midnight, eight days ahead. For Mesa del Sol and Coyote Wash, look two weeks out.
  2. Avoid league mornings. Pick days with no league at your course, or start after the league field.
  3. Play after lunch. Afternoons are easier to book and cheaper. Desert Hills drops to $49 with a cart after 1 PM in January to March, but sunset is around 5:30 PM, so do not start too late.
  4. Use GolfNow for Mesa del Sol last-minute. GolfNow shows a week ahead and sometimes lists Hot Deals ($19.99 on Oct 30, 2026).
  5. Drive to Wellton. Coyote Wash, about 40 minutes east of downtown Yuma on I-8 (about 25 from the Foothills), is the backup when Yuma and Foothills sheets are full in February and March; a 2023 reviewer found times easy to get. Our Coyote Wash guide has a day plan.
  6. Call the phone-only courses. Arroyo Dunes and Cocopah Bend never show up online, so visitors searching booking sites will not see them.
  7. Cancel properly. At Las Barrancas and Foothills Executive, a late cancel or no-show is charged to the card for the whole group.

When to book: a worked example

Here is how the published windows play out for one peak-season date, Saturday, January 16, 2027. The dates are worked out from each course's stated window, so treat them as a guide and check the engine.

Course Window Times for Sat Jan 16 open
Mesa del Sol (online)About 14 daysAbout Sat Jan 2
Coyote Wash (online)14 days, from 12:00 AMSat Jan 2
Desert Hills (online)8 days, at 12:00 AMFri Jan 8
Las Barrancas, Foothills Executive, Foothills Par 37 daysSat Jan 9
Yuma G&CC (public)7 daysSat Jan 9
Butterfield (phone)3 daysWed Jan 13

The pattern is simple: the two-week courses go first, Desert Hills at midnight eight days out, then the 7-day courses. If you want a specific morning at Desert Hills, be online when its date opens.

Groups and buddy trips

Group bookings are the hardest part of winter booking, because online engines book one group at a time. Las Barrancas and the Foothills courses cap each booking at 4 players, and Mesa del Sol sells online times to groups of 2 to 4. For eight or twelve golfers, book consecutive times as soon as the window opens, or call the pro shop. Desert Hills allows fivesomes. Our Yuma buddies golf trip guide covers group lodging and budgets.

Timing, pace and the clock

  • First tee: at Desert Hills it is sunrise or 6:00 AM, whichever is later. In December short days push tee sheets toward late morning and midday.
  • Pace: winter rounds can run long. Mesa del Sol's card sets 4 hours, but reviewers report 5 hours or more on busy days, and a Desert Hills reviewer reported a 5:15 round in March 2026, so take an early tee time.
  • Arizona time: Yuma stays on Mountain Standard Time all year. From Nov 1, 2026 to Mar 14, 2027 it is one hour ahead of San Diego, Palm Springs and Las Vegas, and a phone near the Colorado River can pick up a California tower and show the wrong time. Read our Yuma time zone guide before your first early tee time.

If you only have a few days

A short trip has less flexibility, so lock in the rounds that matter first. Book the two-week courses (Mesa del Sol, Coyote Wash) as soon as your dates are firm, then set reminders for the Desert Hills midnight release and the 7-day courses. Fill the gaps with phone-only courses such as Arroyo Dunes and Cocopah Bend, and keep one afternoon open for whatever appears on GolfNow. If the trip falls in November or April, all of this is easier; see the best time to golf in Yuma.

Booking a whole winter

If you are staying for weeks, a weekly routine works best: one standing league, then book the other rounds on release day. A Mesa del Sol season pass comes with its own passholder booking page; compare prices in Yuma golf passes. Our snowbird golf schedule for Yuma lays out a full week, and Yuma winter golf covers when to arrive. For the course itself, see the Mesa del Sol course guide and the Desert Hills course guide. If you split winters with Nevada, compare the rules in Mesquite tee times and booking.

Plan it on the map

The Yuma golf map puts every course, its booking link and its drive time in one place. The $30 plan can cover a whole winter stay, with a weekly rotation that books around league mornings and release days.

Questions golfers ask

How far ahead can I book tee times in Yuma?

It varies by course. Mesa del Sol and Coyote Wash show about 14 days online (the Wellton brochure says 7 days by phone or GolfNow for Coyote Wash), Desert Hills opens each date eight days ahead at midnight, and Las Barrancas, Foothills Executive, Foothills Par 3 and Yuma G&CC allow 7 days. Butterfield takes phone bookings only 3 days out.

Are Yuma tee times hard to get in winter?

Mornings are, from January to March. That is peak winter-visitor season, and leagues and passholders take blocks of the morning tee sheets at several courses. Afternoon times, weekday rounds outside league days and the Wellton courses are easier to get.

Do Yuma courses keep morning tee times for members?

Some do in effect. Leagues fill set mornings at Las Barrancas, Mesa del Sol, Cocopah Bend and Coyote Wash, and at Yuma Golf and Country Club members can be expected to take priority. Mesa del Sol is the reverse in one window: its pass terms limit passholders from about 9:00 to 10:37 on prime weekdays, when public times are easier to find.

What is the cancellation policy at Yuma golf courses?

Las Barrancas and Foothills Executive need 24 hours' notice by phone, or the card is charged for the whole group, and Foothills Par 3 also asks for 24 hours. Mesa del Sol's online times are prepaid and need 48 hours' notice, with refunds as a gift card. Coyote Wash's online engine shows a 24-hour policy.

Which Yuma courses take tee times by phone only?

Arroyo Dunes Par 3 (928-726-8350), Cocopah Bend (928-343-1663) and Butterfield in Wellton (928-785-4030) had no online booking as of October 2026. Fortuna Del Rey also takes calls only, at 928-342-4766.

What time is the first tee time in Yuma in winter?

At Desert Hills the first tee time is sunrise or 6:00 AM Arizona time, whichever is later. Short December days push tee sheets toward late morning and midday, and winter sunset is around 5:30 PM, which limits late starts.

Can a group of eight book together in Yuma?

Online engines book one group at a time: Las Barrancas and the Foothills courses cap each booking at 4 players, and Mesa del Sol sells online times to groups of 2 to 4. Book back-to-back times, or call the pro shop for larger groups.
