Average high by month: The best time to golf in Yuma, month by month

The best time to golf in Yuma is November to April, when highs run from the high 60s to the mid 80s, rain is rare and courses are on rye. January to March is peak season, with the most visitors and highest rates. November and April give you similar golf with fewer people and, at some courses, lower prices.

Summer is a different sport: highs average 103F to 107F from June to August, so you play at dawn or not at all. October is overseed month, when most courses close for a few weeks. Below is how each month plays, with NOAA 1991-2020 normals from the Yuma airfield and prices seen in October 2026.

Quick facts

  • Best overall: November and April (good weather, fewer crowds).
  • Peak season: January to March: busiest tee sheets, highest rates.
  • Overseed: late September to late October; Mesa del Sol stays open.
  • Extreme heat: May to September (highs 94F to 107F).
  • Rain: about 3.3 inches a year; September is the wettest month.

Peak season: January to March

This is when Yuma's winter population is at its height, and everything is busiest: tee sheets, RV resorts and restaurants. Courses charge winter rates and leagues and passholders take many morning times. Desert Hills is $75 with a cart or $55 walking before 11 AM in its January to March table. Book weekly tee times and lodging well ahead; monthly RV and rental stays are often booked a season in advance.

For weather alone this is the best time to golf in Yuma, if you can live with the crowds. January mornings start in the high 40s, so the first tee times are chilly, but frost is not normal. February is in the mid 70s with the Silver Spur Rodeo weekend, and March reaches about 80F with Midnight at the Oasis (Mar 5-7, 2027) and the MCAS Yuma Airshow (Mar 13, 2027). Our month guides cover Yuma golf in January and Yuma golf in March.

Why November is underrated

For many visitors November is the best time to golf in Yuma. It averages a 78F high and a 54F low, with about one rain day. The rye has just come in after overseed, and winter visitors arrive through the month rather than all at once. Desert Hills' November-December 2025 table was $65 with a cart before 11 AM, $10 less than January to March; the 2026 table was not posted as of October 23, 2026. Hotels are cheaper too: the Comfort Inn & Suites Yuma I-8, a few minutes from Mesa del Sol, was $124 for Nov 2, 2026 against $156 for Feb 17, 2027 (choicehotels.com, seen October 2026).

Two cautions. The first week can still show overseed conditions, and Thanksgiving week (Nov 26, 2026) gets busy. Read Yuma golf in November for the full picture.

Why April is underrated

April averages 86F highs and 60F lows with less than one rain day. Winter visitors head north after Easter (Mar 28, 2027), so tee times open up while the rye is still in good shape. Las Barrancas counts April as in season (to April 30), so its $65 rate holds (see the Las Barrancas course guide), but the last archived Desert Hills spring table (April-May 2025) was $65 with a cart in the morning instead of $75. Afternoons get warm, so play mornings.

Fall overseed: late September to October

Yuma's courses are bermudagrass, which goes dormant and brown in the cool months, so most overseed with rye each fall. In 2026 the Arizona Golf Association list had Las Barrancas closing its front nine Sep 17-Oct 3 and back nine Oct 2-23, the Foothills Par 3 Sep 25-Oct 9 and Foothills Executive Oct 16-30, although the Foothills Executive tee sheet was already selling nine-hole times for Oct 24-30 when checked on Oct 23, so call 928-305-6252. Mesa del Sol does not overseed and stays open. Courses often reopen cart-path-only for a short time. See Yuma golf overseed before booking an October trip.

Summer: May to September

Yuma is one of the hottest places in the US in summer. Courses stay open at their lowest rates, but you need the first tee times, a cart and far more water than usual. July and August lows sit around 83F, so even dawn is warm, and the monsoon adds humidity and the odd thunderstorm from July to September. Las Barrancas' out-of-season period starts May 1 (only its service-member rate is published for summer, $30 instead of $50). Our Yuma summer golf guide explains how locals play it.

What a room costs through the season

Hotel prices follow the same curve as green fees. One example, the Comfort Inn & Suites Yuma I-8 on choicehotels.com (standard rate, 2 adults, before tax, seen October 2026):

Night Rate
Mon Nov 2, 2026$124
Wed Jan 13, 2027$142
Wed Feb 17, 2027$156
Wed Jul 14, 2027$94

That is another reason November is the best time to golf in Yuma for value: peak-quality turf and weather at below-peak prices.

Which time suits which golfer

The best time to golf in Yuma also depends on the kind of trip:

  • Snowbirds staying 1-3 months: arrive in November for the fresh rye and lower rates, and stay through March. Our Yuma winter golf guide covers passes and a weekly plan.
  • Buddies trips of 3-5 days: November or April for the best mix of weather, price and tee-time access.
  • Budget golfers: summer, if you can play at dawn.
  • Avoid: most of October if you need a specific course, and Thanksgiving and Christmas-New Year weeks if you want quiet tee sheets.

When Yuma is busiest in February and March, Coyote Wash, about 40 minutes east of downtown Yuma in Wellton (about 25 from the Foothills), is the usual backup. For the full weather detail, see Yuma weather by month, and for prices, Yuma golf rates. The Desert Hills course guide has the city course's seasonal tables. Plan it on the map

The Yuma golf map shows every course with its overseed closure and season notes, so you can see what is open on your dates. The $30 plan builds a day-by-day trip for the month you pick, or a whole winter stay with a weekly course rotation.

Questions golfers ask

What is the best month to golf in Yuma?

For weather alone, November, February, March and April are hard to beat, with highs from the low 70s to the mid 80s and little rain. November and April also have thinner crowds than January to March. The heart of winter is good golf but the busiest and most expensive time.

When is peak golf season in Yuma?

January to March. That is when most winter visitors are in town, tee sheets and RV resorts are busiest, and courses charge their top rates; Desert Hills, for example, moves to its highest table in January.

Can you golf in Yuma in summer?

Yes, most public courses stay open, but highs average about 103F in June and 107F in July. Golf becomes a dawn activity at the year's lowest rates.

Are Yuma golf courses open in October?

Partly. Most courses close for a few weeks between late September and late October to overseed with ryegrass, and some run nine holes during the grow-in. Mesa del Sol did not overseed in 2026 and stays open.

Why is April a good month for golf in Yuma?

Highs average about 86F, it is the driest month of the November-April season, and winter visitors leave after Easter (Mar 28, 2027), so tee times open up. The rye is still in good shape, and Desert Hills' spring table has been lower than its January-March rates.

Is December a good month to golf in Yuma?

Yes, if you can live with cool mornings. December normals are about 68F highs and 47F lows, the coolest of the year, and short days push tee times toward late morning and midday. Most winter visitors are settled by then, and the Christmas-New Year weeks are busy.

How many winter visitors come to Yuma?

An ASU study for 2017-18 estimated about 71,000 winter visitors staying 30 days or longer between December and May. Local news and RV press cite 90,000 to 100,000, but those are rough figures.
