Red-rock poster: Yuma summer golf: what 107F means, summer rates and how locals play

Yuma summer golf runs from May to September, when highs average 94F in May, about 103F in June, 107F in July, 106F in August and 101F in September. Most public courses stay open at their lowest rates, but you play at first light, ride a cart, carry far more water than usual and finish before late morning.

Locals keep up Yuma summer golf all season. Tee sheets are quiet, prices are low and a few courses add perks for summer regulars. This guide covers what the heat really means on the course, summer rates and hours at each course (seen October 2026; rates change), and the habits that make it work.

Quick facts

  • Highs: about 94F in May, 103F in June, 107F in July, 106F in August, 101F in September (NOAA 1991-2020).
  • Lows: around 83F in July and August, so mornings never really cool off.
  • Monsoon: July to September brings humidity, thunderstorms with lightning and dust.
  • Season switch: May 1 at Las Barrancas and Foothills Executive (summer rack rates not posted).
  • Best summer perk: the Desert Hills Beat the Heat card.

What 107F means for Yuma summer golf

The numbers on the Yuma airfield station tell most of the story:

Month High (F) Low (F) Rain (in) Rain days
May94.366.90.060.5
June103.375.00.010.1
July106.782.60.241.2
August106.483.20.201.4
September101.477.60.681.5

In May the mornings are still in the high 60s, so a 6 AM start is comfortable. By July and August the low is in the 80s, which means it is already warm on the first tee and well over 100F by early afternoon. June is the driest month of the year, with essentially no rain. July to September add monsoon humidity and storms with lightning and dust; September is, on average, the wettest month of the year at 0.68 inches.

The practical rules are simple: book the earliest time, ride a cart, carry much more water than usual, and plan to be done before late morning.

Mesa del Sol's pass terms say it may close one nine at a time in summer for aeration or re-establishment and may run on a limited basis. An old City of Yuma ordinance (1982) set Desert Hills summer hours from May 1 to September 30 with Tuesday closures; whether that still applies was not confirmed, so call 928-373-5220.

The Beat the Heat card

Desert Hills rewards summer regulars. Play 12 rounds between June 1 and September 30 and you earn the Beat the Heat card for a $20 processing fee. It gives you the next rate tier down on every round for the rest of the year, winter included, and lets you book 8 days ahead for your own foursome. It is not valid for tournaments or promotions. If you live in Yuma or stay past spring, it is the best summer deal in town. The Desert Hills course guide has the full rate tables.

How locals play Yuma through the summer

  • First light only. The first tee time at Desert Hills is sunrise or 6:00 AM. Be on the first tee then and you finish before the worst of the heat.
  • Nine holes, not eighteen. A quick nine at Foothills Executive, the Foothills Par 3 or Arroyo Dunes gets you off the course early.
  • Play at night. The Foothills Par 3 is lit Tuesday to Saturday from 6:00 to 9:30 PM ($20, LED balls $5), with the deli and bar open to about 11 PM. See the Foothills Par 3 course guide.
  • Ride. Use a cart even on walkable courses.
  • Watch the sky in monsoon season. July to September storms bring lightning and dust.
  • Practice early. The Las Barrancas Trackman range has 12 bays ($20 per 30 minutes); our Yuma driving range guide lists the rest.

Yuma summer golf, month by month

May is the easiest summer month. Lows average about 67F, so a dawn round starts in comfortable air, and it is the driest stretch of the year apart from June. The out-of-season period at Las Barrancas and Foothills Executive begins on May 1, though only their service-member rates are posted.

June is dry and over 100F most afternoons, with essentially no rain (0.01 inches on average). Tee sheets are quiet and rates are at their lowest. It is also when the Desert Hills Beat the Heat count starts, on June 1.

July and August are the peak of the heat, at about 107F and 106F, with lows around 83F. Monsoon humidity and the odd storm arrive. Golf is a first-light activity. The 2027 Yuma County Fair is recorded in Fair Board minutes as moving to Jul 28-Aug 1; it has little effect on golf.

September is still in the low 100s and, on average, the wettest month. It is also the start of overseed: in 2026 Las Barrancas closed its front nine from Sep 17 and the Foothills Par 3 closed from Sep 25. The Yuma County Open, a local amateur event over Labor Day weekend in past years, can tie up its host courses. Our Yuma golf overseed guide covers the fall closures.

Summer lodging is cheap too

Hotel rates drop with green fees, which makes Yuma summer golf cheap all round. On marriott.com, choicehotels.com and hilton.com for Wednesday, July 14, 2027 (seen October 2026, before tax):

Hotel Summer rate Same hotel, Feb 17, 2027
Comfort Inn & Suites Yuma I-8$94 ($81 member)$156
Home2 Suites Yuma Pivot Point$105$159
Fairfield Inn & Suites Yuma$131$149
Hampton Inn & Suites Yuma$137$178

For longer stays, Westwind RV & Golf Resort charged $525 a month from May to September against $900 from January to April, and Caravan Oasis offered a $30 a day Passport America rate from April to September.

Who should play Yuma in summer

Yuma summer golf suits locals, military and service members (who get the lowest rates at Las Barrancas and Foothills Executive), and anyone happy to play at dawn for less. It does not suit a planned golf trip for most visitors. If you want warm weather without extreme heat, look at April or November instead; see the best time to golf in Yuma and Yuma weather by month. Our cheap golf in Yuma guide covers year-round deals, and Yuma golf rates has the full seasonal table.

Summer clocks also line up: from Mar 14 to Nov 7, 2027, California and Nevada are on the same time as Yuma. For heat golf elsewhere, compare Mesquite summer golf and St. George summer golf.

Plan it on the map

The Yuma golf map shows every course with its summer notes and drive time, so you can keep early-morning drives short. The $30 plan builds a summer trip around first-light tee times, night golf and the cheapest summer rates.
