Map of the courses in this guide: Yuma Winter Golf: How a Snowbird Season Works, From Arrival to April

Yuma winter golf runs from the late-October reopening after overseed to the end of April, peaking from January to March, when normal highs sit between about 70F and 80F and almost no rain falls. Arrive in November for fresh rye and open tee sheets, book 7 to 14 days ahead, and buy passes course by course.

Yuma's courses are built around winter visitors: leagues, season passes, punch cards and RV resorts with golf next door. This guide covers how the season runs, when to arrive, whether a pass beats paying green fees, how tee times work in peak season and how to shape a week.

Quick facts

  • Season: late October to April; peak January to March.
  • Weather: normal highs about 78F in November, 68F in December, 70F in January, 73F in February, 80F in March, 86F in April (NOAA 1991-2020).
  • Overseed: most courses close for part of late September and October; Mesa del Sol does not.
  • Passes: no Yuma-wide pass. Season passes, punch cards and leagues are sold course by course.
  • Booking windows: from 3 days by phone to about 14 days online, depending on the course.
  • Clock: Arizona time all year, one hour ahead of California and Las Vegas from Nov 1, 2026 to Mar 14, 2027.
  • Heat: May to September is extreme heat; most visitors leave by April.

How the Yuma winter golf season runs

Yuma's courses are bermudagrass, which goes dormant and brown in cool weather, so most overseed with ryegrass each fall to stay green from about late October to May. That sets the shape of the season.

Month Normal high / low Rain days What it means for golf
October90F / 66F1.0Overseed closures; courses reopen on new rye in the second half
November78F / 54F1.0Fresh rye, high-70s days, winter visitors arriving

February73F / 50F2.3Peak continues; Silver Spur Rodeo weekend mid-month
March80F / 55F1.9Last big month: Midnight at the Oasis (Mar 5-7, 2027) and the MCAS Yuma Airshow (Mar 13, 2027)
April86F / 60F0.8Crowds thin after Easter (Mar 28, 2027); easier tee times

NOAA 1991-2020 normals at the Yuma airfield. Annual rain totals only about 3.3 inches. The Foothills sit about 15 miles east and slightly higher, but no measured normals exist there.

The winter visitor population is what drives tee-time pressure. An ASU study for 2017-18 estimated about 71,000 winter visitors staying 30 days or longer between December and May; local news and RV press cite 90,000 to 100,000, but those are rough figures. Either way, morning tee times, RV sites and monthly rentals go first. For a month-by-month view, see the best time to golf in Yuma.

When to arrive

Early November is the best start to a winter in Yuma. The rye is new, the days are in the high 70s, and the courses are not yet full. A few courses run cart-path-only for a short while after reopening, so check each one. If you arrive in October, plan around the closures; our Yuma golf overseed guide lists the 2026 dates that were published.

December suits those who want to be settled before the holidays. Thanksgiving week (Nov 26, 2026) and the Christmas-New Year weeks bring family visitors on top of the arriving snowbirds.

January arrivals hit the peak straight away. Book a base well ahead, and expect leagues and passholders to hold many of the best morning times.

On lodging, some RV resorts reward a fall arrival. Westwind RV & Golf Resort lists a four-month fall special of $899 total for September to December, against $900 a month from January to April, with utilities extra on both (seen October 2026). The RV and rental options are covered in Yuma RV resorts with golf and Yuma monthly rentals for snowbirds.

Passes or green fees?

Yuma has no area-wide golf pass, so the choice is made course by course. These were the main options seen in October 2026; 2027 peak green fees at several courses were not posted.

Option Price What you get Works out at
Mesa del Sol 6-month pass (2026-27)$3,500 individualGreen fees, cart, range, taxAbout $55 a round over 64 rounds
Coyote Wash season pass (FY 2026-27)$2,500 singleSeason to April 30; check whether carts are includedAbout $70 a round over 36 rounds
Coyote Wash 10-play punch card$600 with cartTransferable$60 a round
Desert Hills 10-play card, Jan-Mar$500 walking, $650 with cartGreen fees (cart version includes cart)$50 or $65 a round
Butterfield season pass (FY 2025-26, latest posted)$580 singlePar-3 course, October to AprilAbout $30 a round over 19 rounds
Las BarrancasNo pass published$65 with cart, posted in-season rate$65 a round

The rule of thumb: punch cards suit occasional rounds at a course, and a pass only pays at your home course. At the prices above, that means more than one round a week at Coyote Wash over its season, and about two and a half a week at Mesa del Sol over six months. Mesa del Sol's pass also limits passholder access in prime weekday times (about 9:00 to 10:37), and 6-month passes must start before March 1, 2027. For every course's terms, see the Yuma golf passes guide.

In peak season, getting good times is mostly a booking game. Three habits help:

  1. Book the moment the window opens. Desert Hills releases each date at midnight eight days out; Mesa del Sol and Coyote Wash show two weeks.
  2. Avoid league mornings. Each course's league days are different, so a rotation that follows them finds open times. Our Yuma tee times in winter guide goes deeper.
  3. Use the afternoon. Desert Hills drops to $49 with a cart after 1 PM in Jan-Mar, and Mesa del Sol and Las Barrancas both sold late-day times for $35 or less in October 2026.

A simple week of winter golf

For three to five rounds a week, here is a pattern that works with the league calendar:

  • Monday: Las Barrancas or Coyote Wash (no league morning at either).
  • Tuesday: Mesa del Sol or Desert Hills.
  • Wednesday: Desert Hills.
  • Thursday: Las Barrancas.
  • Saturday: a Wellton day, Coyote Wash in the morning and Butterfield after lunch.
  • Rest days: a par 3 or range session, or a day off the course.

The full version, with rest-day ideas and costs, is in the snowbird golf schedule for Yuma. The Mesa del Sol course guide and Desert Hills course guide cover the two courses best suited to frequent play.

Clocks, money and the trip down

Yuma keeps Mountain Standard Time all year with no daylight saving. From November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027 it is one hour ahead of San Diego, Palm Springs and Las Vegas; the rest of the year it matches Pacific time. Phoenix always matches Yuma.

For Canadian visitors, Alberta (which stopped changing clocks on November 1, 2026) and Saskatchewan are one hour ahead of Yuma all year, and British Columbia shows the same time as Yuma all year. Green fees, passes and RV rates are in US dollars. Staying 30 days or longer brings US registration and day-count rules; our guide for Canadian snowbirds in Yuma sets them out as general information.

When the season ends

April is a good shoulder month: highs in the mid-80s, nearly no rain and open tee sheets, with some courses keeping in-season pricing until April 30. Las Barrancas, for example, defines its in-season period as October 1 to April 30.

From May to September Yuma is extremely hot. Normal highs are about 94F in May, 103F in June, 107F in July, 106F in August and 101F in September, with July and August lows around 83F. Golf stays open at most public courses with lower summer pricing, but only at first light, and most winter visitors and many resort activities have left by then.

Plan it on the map

Every course, RV resort and rental mentioned here is on the 3D map, with drive times from each stay. The plan can cover a whole winter stay of two to twelve weeks, with a weekly course rotation, the passes that fit and an RV or monthly base.

Questions golfers ask

When does the winter golf season start in Yuma?

Most courses close for a few weeks between late September and late October to overseed with rye, then reopen on fresh grass through the second half of October. November, with normal highs near 78F, is the first full month of the season. Mesa del Sol does not overseed and stays open through October.

When is peak golf season in Yuma?

January to March. That is when most winter visitors are in town (an ASU study for 2017-18 estimated about 71,000 staying 30 days or more), tee sheets and RV resorts are busiest, and courses charge their winter rates. Normal highs run about 70F in January to 80F in March.

Is there a Yuma-wide golf pass for winter visitors?

No Yuma-wide pass, multi-course card or golf trail was found. Passes are sold course by course, for example Mesa del Sol's six-month pass ($3,500 for 2026-27), Coyote Wash's season pass ($2,500) and Desert Hills' 10-play punch cards ($500 walking or $650 with a cart, Jan-Mar).

How far ahead can I book winter tee times in Yuma?

It varies by course: Las Barrancas and Yuma Golf & Country Club 7 days, Desert Hills 8 days online, Mesa del Sol and Coyote Wash about 14 days online (the Wellton brochure says 7 days by phone or GolfNow for Coyote Wash), and Butterfield 3 days by phone. Cocopah Bend and Arroyo Dunes take phone bookings only.

How cold does Yuma get in winter?

NOAA 1991-2020 normals at the Yuma airfield give December highs of about 68F and lows near 47F, and January highs near 70F with lows near 48F. Frost is not normal, but the first tee times are chilly, so pack a layer.

When do snowbirds leave Yuma?

Departures pick up after Easter (Mar 28, 2027), and tee times open up in April, when normal highs reach the mid-80s. Some courses keep in-season pricing to April 30. From May to September Yuma is extremely hot, with normal highs of about 103F in June and 107F in July.

Do I need to book a winter RV site or rental early?

Yes, as early as you can. Yuma's monthly RV and rental stays are often booked a season in advance, and none of the resorts checked published how early winter fills. RV resorts, monthly rentals and morning tee times fill first in peak season.
