The Yuma time zone is Mountain Standard Time all year: Arizona time, UTC-7, with no daylight saving. Yuma's clocks never change. Everything around it does, which is why visitors from California, Mexico and now Alberta can turn up an hour early or an hour late for a tee time. In winter 2026-27 Yuma is one hour ahead of San Diego.
Here is how Yuma's clock lines up with every place a golfer is likely to come from or visit, with the exact 2026-27 dates.
Quick facts
- Yuma: MST (UTC-7) all year, the America/Phoenix zone. No clock changes for 2020 to 2029.
- Same as Yuma all year: Phoenix, Wellton, San Luis Rio Colorado (Sonora) and, since 2026, Vancouver.
- One hour behind Yuma in winter, the same in summer: San Diego, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Los Algodones, the Andrade crossing and the Imperial Sand Dunes.
- One hour ahead of Yuma all year: Calgary and Edmonton (Alberta stopped changing clocks on November 1, 2026) and Saskatchewan.
- 2026-27 dates: California and Nevada fall back November 1, 2026, spring forward March 14, 2027 and fall back again November 7, 2027.
Yuma time zone vs the places around it
| Place | Zone | Winter (Nov 1, 2026 to Mar 14, 2027) | Summer (Mar 14 to Nov 7, 2027) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yuma, the Foothills, Wellton | Arizona (MST) | - | - |
| Phoenix and PHX airport | Arizona (MST) | Same | Same |
| San Diego, Palm Springs | Pacific | 1 hour behind | Same |
| Las Vegas | Pacific | 1 hour behind | Same |
| Los Algodones and the Andrade port | Pacific (Baja California) | 1 hour behind | Same |
| Imperial Sand Dunes (California) | Pacific | 1 hour behind | Same |
| San Luis Rio Colorado (Sonora) | MST | Same | Same |
Arizona keeps MST all year outside the Navajo Nation. California, Nevada and Baja California use daylight saving on the same dates, so the whole Pacific side moves together.
What the Yuma time zone means for tee times
Yuma golf courses run on Arizona time all year, so a 9:00 AM tee time is 9:00 AM in Yuma whatever the date. The trouble starts when your phone, your flight or your plans are on another clock.
Arriving from California in winter. Leave San Diego at 9:00 AM Pacific and drive 2 hr 50 min, and you reach Yuma just before 1:00 PM on a Yuma clock, not just before noon. If your first round is booked for 1:00 PM, you will be rushing. See San Diego to Yuma.
Arriving from Phoenix. No change at all. The Phoenix to Yuma drive stays on Arizona time the whole way.
Early starts. At Desert Hills, the first tee time is sunrise or 6:00 AM MST, whichever is later. In winter that is one hour ahead of California. The Desert Hills course guide has the full booking rules.
Booking windows. Some online tee sheets open at midnight. Desert Hills opens each date at 12:00 AM eight days ahead, and Coyote Wash in Wellton releases times online 14 days out at 12:00 AM (the town brochure says 7 days by phone or GolfNow). Wellton is on Arizona time too, so there is no change on that drive. More on booking in Yuma tee times in winter.
Phones near the river and border. Cocopah Bend and the west side of Yuma sit beside the Colorado River, across from California. A phone near the river or the border can pick up a California or Mexican tower and show Pacific time. Set the phone to Arizona time manually if it jumps.
Short winter days on a fixed clock
Yuma's clock stays put, but winter days are short. Winter sunset is around 5:30 PM, and December has the coolest mornings of the year, about 47F at the airfield on average. Tee sheets compress into late morning and midday as a result.
| What | Winter timing in Yuma |
|---|---|
| First tee at Desert Hills | Sunrise or 6:00 AM MST, whichever is later |
| Desert Hills after-1 PM rate (Jan-Mar) | $49 with cart, $40 walking |
| Las Barrancas twilight rate | $55 from 3:00 PM (posted) |
| Sunset | Around 5:30 PM |
A twilight start at 3:00 PM leaves about two and a half hours of light in midwinter, enough for a brisk 18 on a quiet afternoon but not a slow one. On the live Las Barrancas tee sheet for Saturday, October 24, 2026, late-day prices dropped further, to $35 from 3:00 PM and $25 later; the Las Barrancas course guide has the tees and booking rules. Rates were seen in October 2026 and change.
In summer the heat makes first light the only sensible time to play, and the same rule applies at Desert Hills: sunrise or 6:00 AM MST, whichever is later.
Yuma vs Los Algodones time
Los Algodones, in the municipality of Mexicali, Baja California, uses Pacific time with the same daylight-saving dates as the US: PST (UTC-8) from November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, then PDT (UTC-7) to November 7, 2027. So it is one hour behind Yuma in winter and the same in summer.
| Event | Algodones clock (January) | Yuma clock (January) |
|---|---|---|
| Dental appointment | 10:00 AM | 11:00 AM |
| Andrade port opens | 6:00 AM | 7:00 AM |
| Andrade port closes | 10:00 PM | 11:00 PM |
The Andrade port's posted hours are 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM Pacific time, which in winter is 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM on a Yuma clock. In summer the clocks match. The Quechan tribe's parking lot beside the port is open 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM Arizona time. Everything else about the crossing is in the Los Algodones day trip guide.
San Luis Rio Colorado, across the border south of Yuma in Sonora, stays on MST all year like Yuma, so there is no change there.
Yuma time for Canadian snowbirds: the 2026 changes
Two provinces changed their clocks in 2026, and both affect calls home and home-office hours from Yuma this winter.
| Home | Rule from November 1, 2026 | Versus Yuma |
|---|---|---|
| British Columbia (Vancouver) | UTC-7 all year since March 8, 2026; no fall-back | Same all year |
| Alberta (Calgary, Edmonton) | UTC-6 all year under the Official Time Act (in force June 18, 2026) | 1 hour ahead all year |
| Saskatchewan | UTC-6, no daylight saving | 1 hour ahead all year |
| Ontario | Eastern time with daylight saving | 2 hours ahead in winter, 3 in summer |
For Albertans the gap with Yuma is the big change. In earlier winters Calgary and Edmonton matched Yuma from November to March. From November 1, 2026 they stay one hour ahead all winter. If you call home at 5:00 PM in Yuma, it is 6:00 PM in Calgary.
British Columbia went the other way: it has stayed on UTC-7 since March 8, 2026, so Vancouver now shows the same time as Yuma all year.
For flights, departure and arrival times are always local. A WestJet flight from Calgary that lands at Phoenix at 3:00 PM lands at 3:00 PM Arizona time, the same clock as Yuma. For more on getting here, read flights to Yuma for golf, Canadian snowbirds in Yuma and the Calgary to Yuma drive, which also covers the reduced winter border-crossing hours at Carway on the way home.
Day trips that cross the clock
Several rest-day trips from Yuma take you onto Pacific time in winter:
- Imperial Sand Dunes. The dunes are in California, on Pacific time. See Imperial Sand Dunes from Yuma.
- San Diego and Palm Springs. One hour behind in winter. You gain an hour going west and lose it coming back.
- Las Vegas. Pacific time, one hour behind in winter.
Trips east to Wellton and Las Barrancas in the Foothills, north to Kofa or Mittry Lake, and south to San Luis Rio Colorado stay on Yuma's clock.
A quick winter conversion table
| Yuma (MST) | San Diego, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Algodones | Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon | Vancouver | Toronto |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7:00 AM | 6:00 AM | 8:00 AM | 7:00 AM | 9:00 AM |
| 12:00 PM | 11:00 AM | 1:00 PM | 12:00 PM | 2:00 PM |
| 5:00 PM | 4:00 PM | 6:00 PM | 5:00 PM | 7:00 PM |
This table applies from November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027. From March 14, 2027, California, Nevada and Algodones match Yuma, and Toronto moves to three hours ahead. Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC do not change.
The same kind of split happens at other golf towns near a state line; the Mesquite time zone guide covers the Nevada-Arizona-Utah version.

Questions golfers ask
What time zone is Yuma, Arizona in?
Yuma uses Mountain Standard Time (MST, UTC-7) all year, the America/Phoenix zone, with no daylight saving. Its clock never changes, so it matches Phoenix every day of the year.
Is Yuma on the same time as California?
Only in summer. From November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027 California is on Pacific Standard Time, one hour behind Yuma. From March 14 to November 7, 2027 California is on daylight time and shows the same clock as Yuma.
What time is it in Los Algodones compared to Yuma?
Los Algodones follows California's daylight-saving dates, so it is one hour behind Yuma in winter and the same in summer. A 10:00 AM dental appointment in Algodones in January is 11:00 AM on a Yuma clock.
Is Calgary on the same time as Yuma?
Not any more. Alberta stayed on UTC-6 when other places fell back on November 1, 2026, so Calgary and Edmonton are one hour ahead of Yuma all year. In earlier winters they matched Yuma.
Is Vancouver on the same time as Yuma?
Yes, all year now. British Columbia has stayed on UTC-7 since March 8, 2026 and did not fall back on November 1, 2026, so Vancouver and Yuma show the same time year round.
Why does my phone show the wrong time in Yuma?
Near the Colorado River and the Mexican border, a phone can connect to a California or Mexican tower and switch to Pacific time. If the clock jumps an hour, set it to Arizona time (MST, no daylight saving) by hand.
Do Yuma golf courses change tee times in winter?
No. Yuma courses run on Arizona time all year. At Desert Hills the first tee time is sunrise or 6:00 AM MST, whichever is later. What changes is the gap to California and Nevada, so visitors from there arrive an hour later than they expect.
