Locator map: Planning a Yuma buddies golf trip for 4 to 12 golfers

A Yuma buddies golf trip suits four to twelve golfers who want warm winter rounds at $35 to $75 with a cart, rooms that sleep four for under $50 a head, and a night nine under the lights. The keys: book consecutive foursomes as each window opens, pick a base that suits your evenings, and dodge league mornings.

This guide covers the group side of the trip: how each course handles bookings for several foursomes, which hotels fit a group, what it costs per golfer, and where to go after golf. For a day-by-day plan, use our 4-day Yuma golf trip itinerary alongside it, or the Yuma golf weekend plan if the group only has two or three days.

Quick facts

  • Most courses cap online bookings at four players, so book back-to-back times.

Practical rules for a group of eight or twelve:

  • One booker. Have one person set an alarm and book all the times as each window opens. Desert Hills releases each date at 12:00 AM eight days ahead.
  • Book in window order. Mesa del Sol and Coyote Wash first, then Desert Hills, then Las Barrancas.
  • Watch the league mornings. Las Barrancas has leagues on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings; Mesa del Sol on Monday and Thursday from 9 AM and Friday from 11 AM; Coyote Wash on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday mornings.
  • Check for events. Mesa del Sol closes to the public for outside scrambles on some Saturdays (Nov 7 and Dec 5, 2026, for example), and Coyote Wash may close for outings.

For outings with food, Desert Hills has banquet space for 10 to 175 and Las Barrancas lists outings and banquets. The Desert Hills course guide and the Las Barrancas course guide list the golf-shop phone numbers. Our winter tee times guide covers the January-to-March rush.

The SpringHill rate search defaulted to one guest, so confirm the price for four. Holiday Inn Yuma, with Burger Theory on site, suits a group that wants a bar without driving (Kayak showed $190 for the same night). For a group that wants its own kitchen and living room, the Mesa del Sol condos include 2 to 3 bedroom townhomes on the course, and 3 to 4 bedroom pool homes in the area appear on Airbnb and Evolve. Nightly prices for those weren't readable, and there is no central rental office.

Hilton Garden Inn has 150 rooms, connecting rooms and three meeting rooms, and books room blocks through Hilton, which makes it a good fit for holding 6 rooms for 12 golfers. Its free 12-passenger van to Yuma International also helps a group that flies in. See where to stay in Yuma for golf for drive times from each hotel.

Evenings out

Night golf. Foothills Par 3 runs lighted night golf Tuesday to Saturday from 6 PM to about 9:30 PM for $20, with LED balls at $5 or $30 for six. Its deli and bar serve canned beer, wine and cocktails to about 11 PM. For a group, it is the best night out in the Foothills.

The Tipsy Cactus. The cantina at Foothills Executive (Google 4.5) is open 7 AM to 10 PM Tuesday to Saturday, with live music Tuesday to Thursday from 5 to 8 PM in winter.

Downtown. From the Pivot Point hotels, Main Street is about 2 blocks away, with Prison Hill Brewing Company (4.3 from 1,437 reviews) and Lutes Casino. River City Grill (4.5) is close by, and Yuma Landing Bar & Grill sits next to the Coronado Motor Hotel, the budget option downtown.

Group dinners. Bodega 23 on 16th Street (4.8 from 2,682 reviews) and El Charro Cafe (4.6 from 2,250) are among Yuma's best-reviewed restaurants on Google. The Hills GastroPub at Desert Hills takes reservations. Foothills restaurants often close at 7 or 8 PM, so plan around that. Our guide to where to eat in Yuma lists more.

House rules worth knowing

  • Mesa del Sol's scorecard says bringing outside alcohol onto the course is prohibited by law, and sunflower seed or pistachio shells on greens can get you removed.
  • Desert Hills does not allow personal coolers and keeps carts on the 90-degree rule.
  • Pace is a known weak point at Mesa del Sol in winter and drew complaints at Desert Hills in spring 2026, with reviewers reporting rounds of 5 hours or more. Take the earliest times you can.

Best months for a Yuma buddies golf trip

November is a strong choice: highs average 77.7F, the rye is fresh after the October overseed, and the winter crowd is still arriving, though Thanksgiving week (Nov 26, 2026) gets busy. January to March is peak season, with the fullest tee sheets and the top winter rates, so book each window the minute it opens. April averages 86.4F and tee times open up after Easter (Mar 28, 2027) as winter visitors head north.

Getting the group to Yuma

Most groups fly into Phoenix and drive about 3 hours, or into San Diego, about 2 hr 50 min away. American Eagle flies to Yuma from Phoenix and Dallas/Fort Worth, but round trips from Phoenix were about $470 to $520 in January. From Nov 1, 2026 to Mar 14, 2027 Yuma is one hour ahead of San Diego.
