Fact box: Planning a Buddies Golf Trip to St. George, Utah: Rooms, Rules and Rotations for 4 to 8

A buddies golf trip to St. George, Utah works best with two foursomes, one shared house or condo, and a mix of one bucket-list round with cheaper city courses. Sand Hollow in Hurricane, The Ledges on the north edge of St. George and The Inn at Entrada by Snow Canyon all rent multi-bedroom units on or beside the course, and most courses here cap groups at four players with two carts.

This is the logistics guide for a group golf trip to Southern Utah: where a group sleeps, the group rules at each course, how to set tees for a mixed-handicap crew, and three budget tiers. For course-by-course detail, see St. George Utah golf courses.

Step 1: Get everyone under one roof

For a group of 4 to 8, a house beats four hotel rooms. You get a kitchen, one place to settle the bets, and one driveway. Three golf properties rent group-sized units:

Property Units Course next door Notes
Sand Hollow Resort, Hurricane2-4 bedroom condos and homes; a 3BR sleeps ~8-10, 4BR up to 14 (listings); a 6BR penthouse sleeps 18Sand Hollow Championship, 3 minCode STAY&PLAY: 10% off lodging, 20% off tee times (2-night min); 9-hole Links on site
The Ledges rentals, St. George3-7 bedroom homes and villas; some large homes sleep 18 or moreThe Ledges, 1 minSome homes with private pool/hot tub; $10 off morning rounds via the rental office; packages by quote
The Inn at Entrada, St. George3-5 bedroom casitas and private homesEntrada at Snow Canyon, 1 minEvery bedroom has its own bath; only way onto private Entrada

None of the three publish nightly rates, so ask for quotes early. Watch for cleaning fees, resort fees and deposits on top (Sand Hollow listings show a $250 deposit), and for strict cancellation: The Inn at Entrada and most Ledges homes charge the full stay inside 14 days.

If you'd rather have hotel rooms, Staybridge Suites near the Dixie Center has full kitchens in every suite and scored 9.3 on Kayak; peak-month rooms averaged about $236 (February, seen October 2026). In Washington, the new Residence Inn beside Green Spring has one-bedroom suites with two queens and a sofa bed that sleep six, so two suites house eight.

Step 2: Pick a base on the right side of St. George

The house you pick decides how much of the trip you spend driving. Washington County's courses run from Ivins in the west to Hurricane in the east, and Mesquite, Nevada is another 50 minutes down I-15. Estimated drive minutes from the three group rentals and a central hotel:

From Black Desert The Ledges Southgate Coral Canyon Sky Mountain Sand Hollow Copper Rock Wolf Creek

The Inn at Entrada315162536404360
Sand Hollow Resort394132191831869
Staybridge Suites (central)151771627303450

If the trip leans to Sand Hollow, Copper Rock and Sky Mountain, sleep in Hurricane. If it leans to Black Desert, The Ledges and the city courses, sleep on the west side or centrally. Our where to stay for golf in St. George guide goes area by area.

Step 3: Know the group rules before you book

Group trips go wrong at the first tee, not the airport. Here are the rules that affect groups, from each course's own policies:

Course Group rule
Wolf Creek, MesquiteFoursomes only, no fivesomes; budget 5+ hours
Coral Canyon, WashingtonNo extra riders or extra carts; every player needs their own bag; 12+ players must call
Green Spring, WashingtonMax 2 carts per group; no extra riders or spectators; everyone needs their own clubs
SunRiver, St. GeorgeThursday to Sunday, max 2 carts per tee time; singles pair up
Sunbrook, St. GeorgeGroups of 16+ booking outside the 14-day window pay a $10 non-refundable fee
Copper Rock, HurricaneGroups, or bookings beyond 60 days, go through Group Sales (435-359-9339)
Black Desert, Ivins12-minute tee intervals; singles must call
Oasis Palmer, Mesquite2 players per cart; shop may pair singles and twosomes

The takeaway: book in foursomes, back-to-back tee times, and make sure nobody plans to share a bag. At Sand Hollow, groups of 16 or more golfers use the resort's group golf inquiry form.

Cancellation rules bite groups hardest. Sand Hollow wants 48 hours for changes and prepaid times are non-refundable. Copper Rock gives free cancellation only 72+ hours out. Falcon Ridge charges a $50-per-player no-show fee.

Step 4: Set tees for a mixed-handicap group

Most buddies groups range from a single-digit player to a 25. The courses here have wide tee spreads, so let each player pick.

  • Copper Rock has the highest men's Course Rating in the St. George area (75.8 from the Copper tees, slope 146). Reviewers say there's a big gap between tee sets and 15+ handicaps should move up. Gold plays 6,185 yards at 70.6/138. See the Copper Rock course page.
  • Wolf Creek slopes 147 from the Challenger tees (155 on the back nine). The Masters tees at 5,683 yards still slope 133.
  • Coral Canyon front nine is the hard half: 155 slope from the tips versus 140 on the back.
  • Sand Hollow has five sets from 7,315 down to 5,306 yards; the Green tees play 6,462 at 69.4/125.

A fair format for a mixed group: everyone plays a tee where their usual driver leaves a mid-iron into par 4s, and you play net. For the toughest layouts, see hardest golf courses in St. George.

Black Desert has a bonus 19th "bet-settling" hole, which solves the question of how to settle the trip's last bet.

Step 5: Pick a budget tier

Green fees per player, with cart, seen in October 2026. Rates change.

Value trip (about $300 a player for four rounds at Oct-May rates): St. George Golf Club $64, Southgate $64, Green Spring $80 to $90, Sunbrook $88. Add Sky Mountain in Hurricane at about $88 for the views. City courses book only 14 days out, so set a reminder.

Middle trip (one big round plus value): Swap one city round for The Ledges ($255 to $295 on October 2026 mornings, $145 to $175 from 2 pm) or Coral Canyon (about $135 in peak, $85 twilight).

Bucket-list trip: Black Desert ($450 public, $325 resort guest in peak), Sand Hollow ($305 to $366 on spring 2027 weekday mornings) and Wolf Creek ($360 to $420 in spring 2026). Three rounds is over $1,000 a player before lodging. Course detail: Sand Hollow course page and Wolf Creek course page.

Twilight is the group's friend. Sand Hollow dropped to $75 to $85 after about 1 pm in December and January, and The Ledges to $75 to $105 after 2:30 pm in January and February. More in twilight golf in St. George.

Step 6: Add a Mesquite day down I-15

Mesquite, Nevada is about 50 minutes from downtown St. George and has its own cluster of courses. A one-day raid works well for groups: Wolf Creek in the morning, then dinner at a casino before driving back. Or stay a night: Eureka Casino Resort has a golf desk that handles group reservations and says it has preferred access at Wolf Creek. Our Mesquite golf day trip from St. George lays out the day.

Remember the time zone. Mesquite is on Pacific time, an hour behind St. George, and tee times are local. A 9:00 tee time there is 10:00 on your Utah phone.

Falcon Ridge hosts outings of up to 144 players if your group is really a small tournament.

Step 7: Travel and cars

  • Fly into Las Vegas. One Calgary-to-St. George trip checked October 9, 2026 found Las Vegas nonstop at CA$465 round trip against CA$1,037+ into St. George with connections, about CA$570 saved each. More in flying to St. George for golf.
  • Rent SUVs, not compacts. Two golf travel bags plus suitcases rarely fit a compact trunk. A small SUV handles two players; a 4-day rental at the Las Vegas airport ran US$137 to $147, about US$70 each split two ways.
  • Rent round trip from Las Vegas. Dropping a Vegas car in St. George often adds a one-way fee.

Timing your buddies golf trip to St. George

Spring is the most popular and the hardest to book. March to early April brings spring break, Easter and Zion traffic, and weekends fill. November has comfortable low-60s afternoons and the lightest wind of the year, and is quieter once the October events end. Avoid September, when most courses close in turn for overseed. See best time to golf in St. George for each month.

Plan it on the map

Drop your group's courses onto the 3D map of St. George golf and check the drive from your rental to each one. A house 1 minute from The Ledges is 42 minutes from Sand Hollow, and that matters when eight people on a buddies golf trip need coffee before a 7:30 tee time.
