Average high by month: The Best Time to Golf in St. George, Utah, Month by Month

The best time to golf in St. George, Utah is late October through November: highs of about 64 to 79°F, freshly overseeded turf from St. George to Washington and Hurricane, light wind and fewer crowds once mid-October's events are over. March and April have equally good weather but the busiest tee sheets and the highest prices. For the lowest green fees, go in summer and tee off at dawn.

The right answer for you depends on whether you're paying for weather, value or an empty tee sheet. Here's the whole year, plus how the answer shifts if you add Mesquite, NV or head toward Zion National Park.

The best time to golf in St. George, by what you care about

Best weather and conditions: late October to mid-November

This is the stretch we'd pick for most trips. The overseed is done, so fairways are green. Highs fall from about 79°F in October to about 64°F in November, and the average wind drops to some of its lowest levels of the year.

Prices are also softer than spring at the dynamic-rate courses. At Sand Hollow in Hurricane, a Tuesday morning in November 2026 showed $160 to $168, against $305 to $366 for spring 2027 weekday mornings. At The Ledges, Tuesday Nov 17 mornings were $135 to $164, compared with $255 a month earlier.

Two caveats. Courses can be cart-path-only for a couple of weeks after reopening; Southgate warns of two to three weeks. And a few November tournaments block tee sheets: the Utah PGA Pro-Assistants Championship is set for Sunbrook and SunRiver on Nov 9-10, 2026, and the Nevada Open uses CasaBlanca in Mesquite in early November. Our November golf in St. George guide covers the month in detail.

Best for warm spring golf: mid-March to April

Highs around 68 to 75°F make this the classic snowbird window. It's also the most crowded time of year. Spring break (Washington County schools are off Mar 8-12, 2027, and other districts and Canadian provinces break across March), Easter weekend and Zion traffic all overlap.

Book early. Sand Hollow opens tee times 180 days out, and Saturday Mar 20, 2027 had only afternoon times left when we checked on Oct 11, 2026. April is also one of the windier months, so expect afternoon gusts.

Best value: June to August

Summer is when green fees drop. The city's June to September rate took Sunbrook from $88 to $54 with a cart in 2026, and Green Spring in Washington was $50 any day with a cart. The trade is heat: about 96°F in June and 102°F in July. Play at first light. Our summer golf deals in St. George post lists every summer rate we found.

Quietest: December and January

Outside the holiday weeks, tee sheets are lighter. Highs are about 53 to 54°F with frosty mornings, so tee times move to mid-morning. Peak-season rates still apply at the city courses, but resort courses get cheaper, especially in the afternoon. See winter golf in St. George for the numbers.

The month to skip: September

Bermuda courses close for overseed in turn from early September to early October. In 2026 the city courses were closed Sept 8 to Oct 6 between them, and most Mesquite courses close for about a month. The St. George overseed schedule lists every course's dates.

How the best time changes across Washington County and beyond

St. George golf isn't one place. The courses spread from Ivins and Snow Canyon on the west side to Hurricane on the road to Zion, and down I-15 to Mesquite, NV. Each part of the region has a slightly different best season.

Area Drive from downtown St. George Best months Why
Central and south St. George (city courses, SunRiver)7–14 minOct–Nov, Mar–Apr; Jun–Aug for valueCity summer rate runs Jun–Sep
West side: Ivins, Snow Canyon (Black Desert, The Ledges, Sunbrook)12–15 minNov, Jan–Mar for Black Desert's lower rateBlack Desert's $325 non-guest rate runs Jan 2–Mar 12
Washington (Coral Canyon, Green Spring)12–17 minCoral Canyon year-round; avoid late Sep at Green SpringCoral Canyon doesn't overseed
Hurricane, toward Zion (Sand Hollow, Sky Mountain, Copper Rock)28–36 minNov, Dec–Jan afternoonsCalm months suit exposed, windy courses; Sand Hollow's winter afternoon rate halves
Mesquite, NV50–56 minNov–FebAbout 7°F warmer than St. George in winter; harsher in summer
Cedar City (Cedar Ridge)about 58 min northSummerAbout 5,810 ft, much cooler than St. George

Wind is the detail most visitors miss. Sand Hollow's cliff-edge back nine and Sky Mountain's mesa top are both exposed, and April to July are the windiest months at the airport. If you're playing Hurricane in spring, book mornings. For a full picture of that side of the county, read the Hurricane and Sand Hollow golf guide.

What the same round costs across the year

Weather is only half of the best time to golf in St. George. The other half is price, and it swings more than most people expect. Here is what the same tee time cost at five courses in different seasons, from official rate cards and live tee sheets seen in October 2026. Rates change.

Course Spring (Mar–Apr) November Winter (Dec–Jan) Summer
Sunbrook, 18 with cart$88$88$88$54
Sand Hollow, weekday morning$305–$366$160–$168$150–$157.50Not yet published
The Ledges, Tuesday morning$258$135–$164Not sampledNot published
Black Desert, non-guest$325 to Mar 12, then $450$450$450 to Jan 1, then $325$325 after 10:15 a.m. (Jul 7–Sep 3)
Wolf Creek, 2025-26 card$360–$420$330 (fall 2025)$200–$230$225 (May 20–Jun 15)

Three things jump out. The city courses only have two prices, so a November round costs the same as a March one. The dynamic-rate resort courses, by contrast, are roughly half price in November compared with spring. And Black Desert's lower $325 non-guest rate applies at any hour from Jan 2 to Mar 12, but only after 10:15 a.m. in summer, so winter is the better time to catch it. Every course's current rates are in St. George green fees compared.

Two former May events are no longer a factor: IRONMAN 70.3 St. George ended after 2025, and the LPGA Black Desert Championship was held only in 2025. Most 2027 dates for the fall events weren't published when we checked.

If you're including Mesquite

Mesquite runs warmer. Using Beaver Dam, Arizona as the nearest NOAA station, January highs are about 62°F against 54°F in St. George, which makes Mesquite the better winter half of a split trip. Summer is harsher, with July highs around 109°F. Most Mesquite courses close for part of September and early October, so the same overseed rule applies. Remember that Mesquite is on Pacific time, an hour behind St. George.

When to book, once you've picked your dates

Picking the month is the first half. The second is booking when the windows open, especially for March, April and November.

  • Sand Hollow: up to 180 days out.
  • The Ledges: up to 120 days.
  • Coral Canyon: up to 90 days for groups of 11 or fewer.
  • SunRiver: 60 days.
  • City of St. George courses and Green Spring: 14 days online.

For spring trips, that means Sand Hollow tee times for late March open in the autumn before.

Our short answer: the best time to golf in St. George by traveler

  • Snowbirds staying a month or more: January to March, splitting rounds between St. George and warmer Mesquite.
  • Buddy group, one long weekend: the first two weeks of November.
  • Bargain hunters: June to August, before 9 a.m.
  • First-timers who want the full experience: late March or April, booked the day windows open.
  • Golfers combining a round with Zion National Park: November or December afternoons in Hurricane, when the wind is lightest.

Questions golfers ask

What is the best month to golf in St. George, Utah?

November is the best all-round month: NOAA normal highs near 64°F, some of the lightest average wind of the year at the airport (3.6 mph), courses freshly overseeded and the big October events finished. Late March and April are just as pleasant but busier, windier and more expensive.

When is golf cheapest in St. George, Utah?

June through August. The City of St. George charges its lower June to September rate (Sunbrook was $54 for 18 with cart vs $88 in peak season) and several Mesquite courses drop sharply. The catch is heat: July highs average about 102°F.

Should I avoid St. George in September for golf?

For most trips, yes. The city courses closed in turn between Sept 8 and Oct 6 in 2026 to overseed, most Mesquite courses close for two to four weeks, and courses that stay open get busier and may be cart-path-only.

Is March a good time to golf in St. George, Utah?

The weather is good (normal highs near 68°F) but it is the most crowded month. Spring break, Easter and Zion traffic overlap with snowbird season, and Sand Hollow's Saturday Mar 20, 2027 mornings were already gone when we checked on Oct 11, 2026.

How cold is St. George in winter for golf?

December and January normal highs are about 53 to 54°F with lows near 28°F, so frost delays push tee times to mid-morning. Afternoons are usually mild and calm. Mesquite, NV runs about 7°F warmer.

Where can I golf near St. George when it's too hot in summer?

Go up. Cedar Ridge in Cedar City sits at about 5,810 feet, about 58 minutes north of St. George on I-15, and charged $50 with cart on its 2025 rate card. Closer in, The Ledges is the highest St. George course at about 3,810 feet and runs slightly cooler.
