St. George, Utah golf weather peaks in March, April, October and November, when average highs run from about 64 to 79°F and rain is rare. December and January are cool (highs near 53 to 54°F) with frost delays, and June to August is hot (96 to 102°F) and best played at dawn. Wind is lightest in November and December and strongest from April to July, which matters most on the exposed courses out in Hurricane.
All numbers below are NOAA 1991-2020 climate normals for the St. George station, except wind, which is a 2016-2025 average from St. George Regional Airport. Mesquite, NV figures come from the Beaver Dam, Arizona station, about 8 miles from Mesquite, because Mesquite's own stations have no published normals.

St. George golf weather month by month
January
The coolest month. Lows around 28°F mean frosty starts, so expect tee times to begin mid-morning. Afternoons are mild and calm. Quiet tee sheets outside the holiday break, though peak-season rates still apply at the city courses. Sand Hollow's rate dropped by about half after 1 p.m. in January when we checked in October 2026.
February
Highs near 59°F and the wettest month on average, though "wet" here means 1.38 inches. Frost delays are still possible. Peak season and peak pricing begin; the Parade of Homes fills weekend lodging mid-to-late month.
March
Prime golf weather arrives, with highs near 68°F. Breezier afternoons start. This is the busiest month, with snowbirds, spring break and Zion traffic all competing for tee times. Book early.
April
Ideal mid-70s days, and one of the windier months, so expect afternoon gusts. Take morning tee times on exposed courses like Sand Hollow in Hurricane, whose cliff-edge back nine is open to the wind, or the mesa-top Sky Mountain, where wind is the main defense.
May
Warm (mid-80s) and very dry, with the second-highest average wind. Early tee times beat both the heat and the afternoon breeze. Some courses aerify in May, so check before you book.
June
Mid-90s and the driest month (0.16 inch). Dawn golf only. This is where summer rates kick in; the city courses' June to September rate made Sunbrook $54 with cart in 2026, against $88 in peak.
July
The hottest month, with highs near 102°F and lows around 72°F, so even early mornings are warm. Monsoon storms are possible. Play at first light and be finished before lunch.
August
Still about 100°F, and monsoon thunderstorms bring some of the year's rain (1.07 inches on average). Play early and watch the sky in the afternoon.
September
Heat eases into the low 90s, but this is overseed month. The city courses closed in turn between September 8 and October 6 in 2026, and most Mesquite courses close for part of the month. Fewer courses are open, and the open ones are busier. See the St. George overseed schedule.
October
Upper-70s days, cool mornings and freshly overseeded turf, so some courses may be cart-path-only right after reopening. It's also the busiest event month, with the PGA TOUR event, the St. George Marathon and the Huntsman World Senior Games all in early October in 2026.
November
Comfortable low-60s afternoons and some of the lightest wind of the year. Frost delays begin late in the month. A strong month for a golf trip once the early-October crowds are gone; see November golf in St. George.
December
Cool (about 53°F highs) and the calmest month at the airport, with the shortest days. Frost delays are common, so plan on late-morning starts and finish before dark. Quiet courses, except over the holidays.
Golf weather across Washington County: elevation by area
The weather station is in St. George, but the courses are spread across more than 1,200 feet of elevation, from SunRiver near the Arizona line up to The Ledges north of town. Higher courses run slightly cooler and the ball flies a bit farther. Clubhouse elevations and drive times from downtown St. George:
| Area | Course | Clubhouse elevation | Drive from downtown |
|---|---|---|---|
| South St. George, near the Arizona line | SunRiver | about 2,512 ft | 14 min |
| South-central St. George | Southgate | about 2,569 ft | 8 min |
| Southeast St. George | St. George Golf Club | about 2,637 ft | 10 min |
| West side | Sunbrook | about 2,724 ft | 12 min |
| Washington | Green Spring | about 2,936 ft | 12 min |
| Ivins | Black Desert | about 2,987 ft | 13 min |
| Washington, east | Coral Canyon | about 3,077 ft | 17 min |
| Hurricane | Sand Hollow | about 3,079 ft | 32 min |
| Hurricane | Sky Mountain | about 3,197 ft | 28 min |
| Hurricane | Copper Rock | about 3,384 ft | 36 min |
| North of town | The Ledges | about 3,810 ft | 15 min |
The Ledges is the highest course in the St. George area and runs slightly cooler, which makes it the one to save for the warmest part of a winter day or the coolest part of a summer one. See The Ledges course guide, and for how elevation changes distance, St. George golf elevation and distance.
Further afield, Cedar Ridge in Cedar City sits at about 5,810 feet, about 58 minutes north on I-15. It runs much cooler than St. George and works as a summer escape when the courses here are over 100°F. More in the Cedar City golf guide.
Mesquite, NV weather: about 7 degrees warmer
Mesquite's courses sit lower, at about 1,550 to 1,860 feet, and it shows in the temperatures:
| Month | St. George high | Mesquite high | Mesquite low |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jan | 54.0°F | 61.7°F | 33.0°F |
| Feb | 59.3°F | 66.1°F | 35.9°F |
| Mar | 67.8°F | 74.5°F | 43.1°F |
| Apr | 75.0°F | 82.3°F | 48.0°F |
| Jul | 101.9°F | 109.0°F | 73.8°F |
| Oct | 78.8°F | 86.1°F | 53.1°F |
| Nov | 63.8°F | 71.8°F | 40.2°F |
| Dec | 53.0°F | 60.2°F | 31.9°F |
In winter that warmth is a gift: low-60s afternoons in December and January. In summer it's a warning: July averages 109°F. There's no long-term wind record for Mesquite. On a low, windy river-bottom course like CasaBlanca, afternoon wind is the main defense year-round. Plan a run down I-15 with the Mesquite golf day trip from St. George.
Course conditions through the year
Weather isn't the only thing that changes the course under your feet. Most courses in Washington County and Mesquite are bermudagrass, which goes dormant and brown in winter, so they close each fall to overseed with ryegrass. That's why the weather sweet spots and the conditioning sweet spots don't line up exactly.
- Spring (mid-April to mid-May): the city runs spring aeration with partial openings, so greens can putt badly for a week or two.
- Summer: courses aerate. Sand Hollow aerifies its greens in early May and August.
- September to early October: overseed closures. Some courses stay cart-path-only for days or weeks after reopening.
- November to March: green, overseeded fairways. At St. George Golf Club the city says tees, fairways and greens stay green while the rough, which isn't overseeded, goes brown.
Coral Canyon and Black Desert are the exceptions. Both grow cool-season grass all year and don't overseed.
Turning the weather into tee times
- December to February: don't book before mid-morning. Frost delays hold everyone back, and split-tee starts at Mesquite's Wolf Creek in winter mean a delay moves the whole sheet. Mid-day is the sweet spot, but don't start too late: locals say a 1:30 p.m. winter tee time at Green Spring can finish near dark.
- March to May: book the earliest times you can. Mornings are calm and cool; afternoons bring wind.
- June to August: first tee time of the day, no exceptions. Twilight is cheaper, but the heat lingers.
- September to November: mornings can be cool by November. Late-morning starts give the best conditions.
What to pack
Whatever the St. George golf weather is doing, the temperature swing between dawn and mid-afternoon is large in every season: about 25 to 32 degrees between the average low and high. Layers matter more than anything else. In winter that means a warm layer for a 28°F morning that turns into a 54°F afternoon; in summer, sun protection and plenty of water.
