To fly to St. George, Utah for a golf trip, most golfers land in Las Vegas (LAS) and drive about 2 hours and 120 miles up I-15. Vegas has the most flights, the cheapest fares and the cheapest rental cars, and the Mesquite, Nevada courses sit right on the way. St. George Regional Airport (SGU) is only about 15 minutes from town, but it has a handful of connecting routes and fares usually run higher.
This guide compares the two airports with real numbers, then shows how to turn the drive into an extra round instead of dead time.
Which airport to fly to St. George for a golf trip
| Las Vegas (LAS) | St. George (SGU) | |
|---|---|---|
| Drive to St. George | About 2 hours, 120 miles on I-15 | About 15 minutes |
| Flights | The most, including direct flights from most big US and Canadian cities | A handful of connecting routes |
| Fares | Usually the cheapest | Usually higher |
| Rental cars | Cheapest, at the Rent-A-Car Center (free shuttle from terminals) | Fewer cars; book early |
| Golf on the way | Mesquite courses are on the route | None needed |
Flying straight into St. George Regional is worth it when the price gap is small. You skip about four hours of round-trip driving, which is most of a golf day.
What it actually cost: a real example
We priced a trip from Calgary to St. George for November 27 to December 1, 2026, on Google Flights and Kayak on October 9, 2026.
| Item | Detail | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Flight into Las Vegas | Nonstop WestJet, round trip | CA$465 |
| Flight into St. George | 1 to 2 connections, round trip | CA$1,037+ |
| Rental SUV at Las Vegas airport | Ford EcoSport or similar, 4 days, free cancellation | US$137–$147 |
| Rental SUV, per golfer | Split two ways | About US$70 |
Flying into Las Vegas saved about CA$570 per person, more than the whole hotel bill for that trip. Fares move constantly, so run your own search. In our example the gap was big enough that Las Vegas was the clear choice for a St. George Utah golf trip; a close fare into SGU would change that.
The drive up I-15 to St. George, mapped out
The route from the Las Vegas airport is simple: I-15 north the whole way.
| Stop | What's there | Time from LAS |
|---|---|---|
| Las Vegas (LAS) | Pick up the rental car | 0 |
| Mesquite, NV | Wolf Creek, Falcon Ridge, Oasis | 1 hr 10 |
| Virgin River Gorge | Short scenic canyon through Arizona | 1 hr 30 |
| St. George, UT | Check in, golf tomorrow | 2 hr |
Watch the clock change. Nevada runs on Pacific time and Utah on Mountain time. Driving north you lose an hour, and driving back to Vegas you get it back. That works in your favour on the last day: a morning round, then the drive south, and you gain an hour before an evening flight.
Mesquite tee times are always Mesquite local time. A 9:00 tee time there is 10:00 on a St. George clock, all year.
Where the courses sit once you reach Washington County
I-15 runs straight through the St. George area, so where you exit decides which courses are closest. Drive times are estimates from downtown St. George:
| Area along or off I-15 | Courses | From downtown St. George |
|---|---|---|
| South St. George, by the Arizona line | SunRiver (off exit 2) | 14 min |
| Central St. George, Dixie Center | Southgate, St. George Golf Club, Dixie Red Hills | 7-10 min |
| West: Ivins and Snow Canyon side | Black Desert, Entrada, The Ledges, Sunbrook | 12-15 min |
| Washington, just east | Green Spring, Coral Canyon | 12-17 min |
| Hurricane, toward Zion | Sky Mountain, Sand Hollow, Copper Rock | 28-36 min |
If you fly into SGU, you are already in the middle of this. If you drive from Las Vegas, the SunRiver and Dixie Center exits come first, so a south-side or central hotel saves a few minutes at the end of a long travel day. Our where to stay for golf in St. George guide covers each base.
Turn arrival day into a golf day in Mesquite
Because Mesquite sits about 70 minutes from the airport, an early flight can become an afternoon round before you reach St. George. Here are the Mesquite golf options closest to the route, with drive times from downtown St. George so you can plan the last leg too.
| Course | From downtown St. George | Arrival-day angle |
|---|---|---|
| Wolf Creek | 52 min | The bucket-list round. Plan on 5+ hours, so only with an early flight |
| Falcon Ridge | 52 min | Friendlier length; twilight tiers drop through the afternoon |
| Oasis Palmer | 50 min | Short Palmer target course; recommended pace 4:30 |
| Oasis Canyons | 50 min | The harder Oasis sister |
| CasaBlanca | 51 min | Flat river-bottom layout with water on 13 holes |
| Conestoga | 56 min | Golf Digest top-20 in Nevada |
| Coyote Willows | 53 min | A $50 nine if you only have a couple of hours |
A sample arrival day
Here's how the clock works if you land in Las Vegas mid-morning, using the drive times above and the Oasis courses' recommended pace.
- Land and collect the car by about 11:00 am (Pacific).
- Drive about 70 minutes to Mesquite and tee off around 12:30 pm Pacific.
- Finish around 5:00 pm Pacific if the round takes the recommended 4 hours 30.
- Drive about 50 minutes to St. George. You arrive around 5:50 pm by your body clock, but the clock there says about 6:50 pm Mountain.
Days are shortest in December, so in winter check that a 12:30 tee time can finish 18 before dark, or book a nine instead.
A few cautions for arrival-day rounds:
- Twilight may not finish. Falcon Ridge, Wolf Creek and Sand Hollow all say twilight rounds aren't guaranteed to finish 18. In December the light goes early, and St. George highs are only about 53F.
- Mesquite closes for overseed. Most courses shut for part of September and into early October. In 2026 Wolf Creek closed August 30 to October 2 and Conestoga all of September.
- Wolf Creek is a five-hour round. The club itself says pace will exceed five hours. If your flight lands at noon, pick something shorter. See the Wolf Creek course page.
If Mesquite is a big part of your plan, read our Mesquite, Nevada golf guide, the Mesquite golf day trip from St. George and the 5-day St. George and Mesquite itinerary.
Arriving late? Play close to I-15 in St. George
If you arrive after dark and play the next morning, stay near the freeway and start with a course that is easy to reach.
- SunRiver sits right off I-15 exit 2, near the Arizona line, about 14 minutes from downtown. The Hampton Inn & Suites St. George SunRiver is about 4 minutes from the course, and at 44 minutes to Wolf Creek it is the closest St. George hotel on our map to Mesquite. See the SunRiver course page.
- Southgate is minutes off I-15 and about 8 minutes from downtown. It's the shortest city 18 and a good first round while you shake off the travel. Several hotels near the Dixie Center, such as the Hilton Garden Inn, are about 5 minutes from it. See the Southgate course page.
Southgate's peak-season rate was $44 walking and $64 with a cart (October to May, checked October 2026). City courses book 14 days out online.
Your last day: a round on the way to the airport
The return trip is where the time change helps. Flying out of Las Vegas, you gain an hour driving south, so a morning round in St. George or Mesquite still leaves room for an afternoon or evening flight.
- Play in Washington and go. Green Spring and Coral Canyon both sit on the east side near I-15. Coral Canyon rounds can run close to 5 hours, and Green Spring's canyon holes can back up, so book the first tee time.
- Or play Mesquite on the way. From downtown St. George it is about 50 minutes to the Oasis courses, then about 70 minutes on to the Las Vegas airport, an hour earlier by the clock.
Bringing your clubs, whichever airport you use
- Bag fees. Most airlines count a golf travel bag as a regular checked bag if it's under their weight limit, usually 50 lb. Check your airline's fee before booking.
- Pack smart. Put shoes and balls in the golf bag to save suitcase space.
- Rentals as a backup. Several courses rent clubs, including Coral Canyon ($65), Sand Hollow (Callaway, $105 a day), the Oasis courses (Srixon/Cleveland, $75 a day, $50 twilight, limited, so call ahead) and Conestoga (TaylorMade). Prices seen October 2026.
The rental car
- Rent round trip at Las Vegas. Pick-up and drop-off at the Las Vegas airport is usually cheapest. Dropping a Vegas car in St. George often adds a one-way fee.
- Size up. Two golf travel bags plus suitcases rarely fit in a compact trunk. Book a small SUV or a full-size car.
- Book with the flight. Thanksgiving week and spring break are busy. Most rental bookings can be cancelled for free, so lock one in early and recheck the price later.
You'll need the car in St. George anyway. The courses spread from Ivins to Hurricane, and Sand Hollow is about 32 minutes from downtown. Our 3-day St. George golf itinerary shows how much driving a typical trip involves.
Which airport, in one line
When you fly to St. George for a golf trip from a big city and the fare gap is anything like our example, fly into Las Vegas, rent an SUV round trip and play Mesquite on the way in or out. If you find a fare into St. George within a modest amount of the Vegas fare, take it and get four hours of your trip back.
Plan it on the map
The 3D map of St. George golf shows the Mesquite courses along I-15 and every St. George course with its drive time from downtown. Use it to choose an arrival-day round that fits your landing time and a last-day round that gets you to the airport on time.

Questions golfers ask
What airport do you fly into for golf in St. George, Utah?
Most golfers fly into Las Vegas (LAS), about 2 hours and 120 miles from St. George on I-15. It has the most flights, usually the cheapest fares and the cheapest rental cars. St. George Regional (SGU) is about 15 minutes from town but has only a handful of connecting routes and higher fares.
How far is St. George, Utah from the Las Vegas airport?
About 2 hours and 120 miles on I-15. Mesquite, Nevada, with courses like Wolf Creek, Falcon Ridge and Oasis, is about 1 hour 10 minutes in, so many golfers play a round there on arrival day.
Is it worth flying into St. George instead of Las Vegas for golf?
Only if the price gap is small. For a Calgary trip November 27 to December 1, 2026 (checked October 9, 2026), a nonstop round trip to Las Vegas was CA$465 against CA$1,037 or more with one or two connections to St. George, a saving of about CA$570 each.
Do you lose an hour driving from Las Vegas to St. George, Utah?
Yes. Nevada is on Pacific time and Utah on Mountain time, so you lose an hour heading north and get it back driving south to Las Vegas. Mesquite tee times are Pacific time, one hour behind a St. George clock.
What rental car do I need for two golf bags in St. George?
Two golf travel bags plus suitcases rarely fit in a compact car's trunk, so book a small SUV or a full-size car. A small SUV at the Las Vegas airport was US$137 to $147 for four days in our late-November example.
