Drive lines from downtown St. George: A 3-Day St. George, Utah Golf Itinerary with Real Drive Times

A good 3-day St. George golf itinerary is one marquee round per day from a central base: Sand Hollow in Hurricane on day one, Black Desert in Ivins or The Ledges on day two, and Coral Canyon or Green Spring in Washington on the way out on day three. Add the Sand Hollow Links and Dixie Red Hills nines in the afternoons if your legs allow.

Every drive time in this itinerary is our estimate from Hilton Garden Inn St. George, a central hotel off I-15 near the Dixie Center. Estimates are not live traffic times. Fees were seen in October 2026 and change, especially at the dynamically priced courses.

Day 2Black Desert or The LedgesDixie Red Hills, 9 at dusk15 / 17 min, then 9 min

That's 54 holes of marquee golf, plus an arrival-day round and up to 18 more in add-on nines, and no single drive over half an hour.

How the three days move around Washington County

The plan works because each day points at a different corner of the St. George area, and a central base sits in the middle of all of them:

  • Day 1 goes east to Hurricane, about 30 minutes, toward Zion National Park. Sand Hollow is the farthest course in the plan.
  • Day 2 goes west to Ivins and the Snow Canyon side, 15 to 17 minutes. Black Desert sits in Ivins; The Ledges is on the north edge of St. George, its back nine on the rim of Snow Canyon.
  • Day 3 stays close in Washington, 10 to 15 minutes up I-15, so you finish pointed at the freeway.

If you would rather sleep somewhere else, here is how the same courses look from other bases (estimated minutes):

Base Southgate Sand Hollow Black Desert The Ledges Coral Canyon Green Spring
Hilton Garden Inn (central)53015171510
Residence Inn (Washington)1025182092
Black Desert Resort (Ivins)19422182721
Sand Hollow Resort (Hurricane)32339411925

Washington works just as well for this plan: closer to Sand Hollow and the day-three courses, a few minutes farther from Southgate and the west side. Staying at either resort saves time on one day and costs it on the other two. Our where to stay for golf in St. George guide compares the areas in more detail.

Arrival day: get the travel out of the way

If you fly into Las Vegas, it's about 2 hours (120 miles) on I-15, and you lose an hour crossing into Utah's Mountain time. Fly into St. George and you're about 15 minutes from town, but fares are usually higher. On a three-day trip, the 4 hours of round-trip driving you save by flying into SGU counts for a lot.

Land early enough and play Southgate, 5 minutes from the hotel. It's the shortest city 18 (6,218 yards from the tips), right off I-15, with a driving range to shake off the flight. Rates are $44 walking or $64 with cart from October to May, $30 / $50 June to September. The front nine is flat and wet by the river; the back nine is hilly. If you only have time for nine, play the front.

City courses book 14 days out online, so this is the last tee time you'll lock in.

Day 1: Sand Hollow in Hurricane, the reason you came

Drive east 30 minutes to Sand Hollow Resort in Hurricane. The John Fought design plays 7,315 yards from the back (74.0/137), but the Green tees at 6,462 (69.4/125) suit most visitors. It is Golf Digest's #10 in Utah (2025-26).

The front nine is flatter and easier. The back nine is the show: holes 11 to 15 run along a cliff edge, and the rule from Golf Digest panelists and GolfPass reviewers is simple: miss right, because everything left falls off the edge. Read our Sand Hollow golf course guide and the Sand Hollow course page before you go.

Book early. Public times open 180 days out and spring Saturday mornings go months ahead. Spring 2027 weekday mornings showed $305 to $366, with $175 to $200 after about 3 pm. In winter the rate halves after about 1 pm ($75 to $85 in December and January).

Afternoon: walk the 9-hole Links next door ($80 weekdays, $105 Saturdays in spring; $50 weekdays in January) to make 27. It's wide, windy and an easy walk. One reviewer clocked a twosome at 5:05 for the Championship course, so only add the Links if you teed off early.

Day 2: Choose your big-ticket west-side round in Ivins or Snow Canyon

Option A: Black Desert in Ivins (15 minutes)

Black Desert is Golf Digest's #2 in Utah (2025-26) and a PGA TOUR venue. Bentgrass corridors run through black lava, so a miss is usually a lost ball. Non-guests paid $450 in peak season on the 2026 rate card ($325 January 2 to March 12), with cart, forecaddie and on-course food included. Use the forecaddie's reads on the big greens. Public booking is up to 60 days out, with resort guests getting priority. See the Black Desert course page.

It closes each fall for the PGA TOUR event (September 14 to October 6 in 2026).

Option B: The Ledges (17 minutes)

The Ledges sits highest of the main courses, about 3,810 feet at the clubhouse, so it's slightly cooler and the ball flies a bit farther. The front nine is open; the back nine runs along the rim of Snow Canyon. October 2026 mornings ran $255 to $295, dropping to $145 to $175 from 2 pm. Public tee times open 120 days out. See the Ledges course page, and our Ivins and Snow Canyon golf guide for the rest of the west side.

Late afternoon: Dixie Red Hills

Finish at Dixie Red Hills, 9 minutes from the hotel: the city's first course (1965), nine short holes under red cliffs. It's $27 walking October to May, and very walkable. From Black Desert it's an estimated 11 minutes; from The Ledges, about 10.

Day 3: A Washington canyon round on the way out

Option A: Coral Canyon (15 minutes)

Coral Canyon is about $135 for 18 in peak season (February to May and September to November, Sunday to Thursday). The front nine is the hard half: 155 slope from the tips against 140 on the back. Wide fairways, but real forced carries into greens. Rounds can run close to 5 hours, so book the first hour if you have a flight. See the Coral Canyon course page.

Option B: Green Spring (10 minutes)

Green Spring is the cheaper pick: $80 Sunday to Thursday, $90 Friday and Saturday in February to April, with cart. The canyon carries on 5 ("Bottomless Pit") and 6 ("Devil's Gulch") eat balls, so bring extras. Locals say the canyon holes back up; go early.

Either course sits near I-15 on the east side, so you're pointed toward the freeway when you finish. St. George to Las Vegas is about 2 hours.

Adjust the itinerary for the St. George season

  • December and January: average highs of 53 to 54F and lows below freezing mean frost delays. Push every tee time to mid-morning and drop the afternoon nines; the days are shortest. Sand Hollow's half-price afternoon rate is the trade-off.
  • March to May: highs of 68 to 85F. April and May are among the windier months, so take the earliest tee times.
  • June to August: highs of 96 to 102F. Play at dawn only and skip the add-on nines. City rates drop (Southgate $50 with cart).
  • September: the city courses close in turn for overseed (2026: Dixie Red Hills September 9 to 23, St. George Golf Club September 21 to October 5, Southgate September 22 to October 6), and Green Spring was closed September 21 to 25. Check closures before you book.
  • Early October: the St. George Marathon, the PGA TOUR event at Black Desert and the Huntsman World Senior Games fill hotels.

Questions golfers ask

How many golf courses can you play in 3 days in St. George, Utah?

Three full 18-hole rounds plus one or two short add-ons is comfortable. This plan uses Sand Hollow, Black Desert or The Ledges, and Coral Canyon or Green Spring, with the Sand Hollow Links nine and Dixie Red Hills as extras, and an optional arrival-day round at Southgate.

Where should I stay for a 3-day golf trip to St. George, Utah?

A central hotel near I-15, such as Hilton Garden Inn, keeps every course in this plan within about 30 minutes by our estimates: Southgate 5 minutes, Green Spring 10, Black Desert 15, Coral Canyon 15, The Ledges 17 and Sand Hollow 30.

What is the best month for a 3-day golf trip to St. George?

March, April, October and November have average highs between about 64 and 79F. Early October is crowded with the PGA TOUR event, St. George Marathon and Huntsman World Senior Games, so late October and November are often easier to book.

Should I fly into St. George or Las Vegas for a short golf trip?

Las Vegas usually has cheaper flights and rental cars, but it is about a 2-hour drive each way. On a 3-day trip, flying into St. George saves about 4 hours of driving round trip, which is worth it if the fare gap is small.

How much do green fees cost for 3 days of golf in St. George, Utah?

Using rates seen in October 2026, this plan runs about $210 to $225 per player in its value version, $455 to $510 in the middle version and $890 to $950 in the bucket-list version, before add-on nines. Rates change, especially at the dynamically priced courses.
