Golf in Ivins and around Snow Canyon, on the west side of St. George, Utah, comes down to four courses: Black Desert in Ivins, private Entrada at Snow Canyon next door, The Ledges on the edge of Snow Canyon State Park, and the city's 27-hole Sunbrook toward Santa Clara. All four are 12 to 15 minutes from downtown St. George, but they could not be more different in access and price: a $450 resort round, a members-and-hotel-guests-only club, a semi-private course with prices that change by the hour, and a municipal course at $88 with a cart.
This guide puts them side by side so you can decide whether to base a St. George golf trip on the west side, which rounds you can actually book, and where to stay. For each course in depth, follow the links to the individual guides.

Where they sit: Ivins, Snow Canyon and the west side of St. George
The four courses form a loose triangle northwest and west of downtown St. George.
- Black Desert is the one with an Ivins address. Its corridors run through black basalt lava with a red-cliff backdrop.
- Entrada at Snow Canyon has a St. George address but sits on the Ivins side of town, inside a guard-gated community 3 minutes by road from Black Desert. Lava flows and streams run through it too.
- The Ledges is on the north edge of St. George. Its front nine is wide and flatter; its back nine runs along the red and white Navajo sandstone bordering Snow Canyon State Park.
- Sunbrook is on St. George's west side, out toward Santa Clara. Its Blackrock nine has lava-field holes, and water comes into play on about a third of the holes.
Road times between them, from the hotel or rental closest to each course:
| From | Black Desert | Entrada | The Ledges | Sunbrook |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Black Desert Resort | 2 min | 5 min | 18 min | 15 min |
| The Inn at Entrada | 3 min | 1 min | 15 min | 12 min |
| The Ledges rentals | 15 min | 15 min | 1 min | 17 min |
Black Desert and Entrada are effectively neighbours. The Ledges and Sunbrook are each about a quarter of an hour from the pair. The city's nine-hole Dixie Red Hills is also close: 8 minutes from The Inn at Entrada and 7 minutes from downtown.
The rest of the region is farther. From Black Desert Resort, Green Spring in Washington is about 21 minutes, Coral Canyon about 27, Sand Hollow in Hurricane about 42 and Mesquite's Wolf Creek about 63. If your trip is built around Hurricane and Zion, see our Hurricane and Sand Hollow golf guide instead.
Access rules: who can play what
This is the part that trips people up on the west side, because the four courses use four different models.
Black Desert: public, but guests pay less
Black Desert is open to the public. Resort guests and owners pay a lower rate and get booking priority. An August 2024 release put the public booking window at 60 days; the 2026 site does not restate it. Stay-and-play bookings can go up to a year out, singles and same-day times are by phone, and there is a virtual waitlist. Golf shop: 435-222-7830. Full details in our Black Desert golf course guide and on the Black Desert course page.
Entrada at Snow Canyon: private, with one way in
Entrada is a private, Troon-managed club for members and their guests. A visitor without a member gets on by staying at The Inn at Entrada, which arranges tee times when you book the stay direct on 435-634-7100. The guest green fee and booking window are not published, and the Inn's offers page listed no golf package in October 2026. Golf shop: 435-986-2207. See our Entrada at Snow Canyon guide and the Entrada course page.
The Ledges: semi-private, book early
Members play alongside public tee times that anyone can book on Chronogolf, up to 120 days ahead, the longest public window among the courses in St. George itself. Times are prepaid, with a full refund only if you cancel 48 or more hours out, and online singles cannot book onto an empty tee time. Golf shop: 435-634-4640. See The Ledges Golf Club guide and The Ledges course page.
Sunbrook: municipal, 14 days out
Sunbrook is a City of St. George course that anyone can book online through trutee, 14 days ahead. Groups of 16 or more booking outside the window pay a $10 non-refundable fee. Walking is allowed and priced. Phone: 435-627-4400. See the Sunbrook course page.
Green fees on the west side, seen October 2026
Prices below were checked in October 2026 and change, especially at The Ledges, which uses dynamic pricing.
| Course | Peak | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Desert | $450 non-guest / $325 resort guest | $325 / $250 (Jan 2 – Mar 12; summer after 10:15 am) | Cart, forecaddie, on-course food and soft drinks included; forecaddie tip extra |
| Entrada | Not published | Not published | Inn at Entrada guests only |
| The Ledges | $255–$295 mornings (Oct 2026 and Mar 2027 dates) | $112–$125 at 4 pm in Oct; $75–$105 after 2:30 pm, Jan–Feb 2027 | No rate card; live Chronogolf prices |
| Sunbrook | $68 walking / $88 with cart (Oct–May) | $34 walking / $54 with cart (Jun–Sep) | Washington County loyalty card rates for residents |
The spread is the story. A day at Black Desert costs about five times a peak-season round at Sunbrook with a cart. The Ledges sits in between and drops sharply in the afternoon. For every course in the region side by side, see St. George green fees.
Seasons and closures
The four courses do not close at the same time, which helps if you are planning a September or early-October trip.
| Course | 2026 closures and maintenance |
|---|---|
| Black Desert | Spring aerification recovery Feb 26 – Mar 12 (open, maybe cart-path-only); PGA TOUR prep Aug 1 – Sep 13 (mats, limited tees); closed Sep 14 – Oct 6 |
| Sunbrook | Spring aerification May 12–14 and fall Aug 25–27 (18 holes open); closed Sep 8–22 for overseed |
| The Ledges | No closure dates published |
| Entrada | No closure dates published |
Black Desert is all bentgrass, so it does not overseed; its fall gap is the PGA TOUR event, the Bank of Utah Championship, which ran October 1 to 4 in 2026. Sunbrook is a warm-season course overseeded each fall.
On weather, the St. George climate applies to all four: January highs average about 54°F with lows near 28°F, April about 75°F, and July about 102°F. The Ledges, at about 3,810 feet, is the highest course in this part of the area, so it runs slightly cooler and the ball flies a bit farther.
Where to stay in Ivins and the west side
Three places to stay sit right on these courses, each with a different golf angle.
| Stay | Nearest courses (road) | Golf angle | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Desert Resort, Ivins | Black Desert 2 min, Entrada 5, Dixie Red Hills 11, Sunbrook 15, The Ledges 18 | Lower green fee for guests; typically ~$400–$450+ a night before a 15% resort fee (seen Oct 2026) | Resort fee and $15–$25 daily parking; reported construction noise |
| The Inn at Entrada, St. George | Entrada 1 min, Black Desert 3, Dixie Red Hills 8, Sunbrook 12, The Ledges 15 | Only way for a visitor to play Entrada; casitas with a private bath per bedroom | Strict 14-day cancellation; no nightly rate published |
| The Ledges of St. George Vacation Rentals | The Ledges 1 min, Dixie Red Hills 10, Black Desert 15, Entrada 15, Sunbrook 17 | 3- to 7-bedroom homes; $10 off morning rounds at The Ledges booked through the rental office | Resort and cleaning fees shown only on a quote |
If none of those suit, The Advenire in downtown St. George is 11 minutes from Entrada and Sunbrook, 12 from Black Desert and 14 from The Ledges, typically about $170 to $330 a night in Kayak snapshots seen October 2026. Our where to stay for golf in St. George guide compares the west side with downtown, Washington, Hurricane and Mesquite.
A three-day west-side plan
A simple way to play the whole cluster without long drives:
- Day one: Black Desert in the morning. If you are staying at the resort, you pay the guest rate.
- Day two: Entrada, if you are staying at The Inn at Entrada. If not, play Sunbrook and ask for the Pointe/Woodbridge rotation with its island-green 4th.
- Day three: The Ledges after 2 pm, when prices drop, with the back nine along the Snow Canyon sandstone in the late light. Add a nine at Dixie Red Hills if you still have energy.
From a base in Ivins, no drive on that plan is longer than about 18 minutes.
Who the west side suits
Base on the west side if your trip centres on Black Desert or Entrada, or if you want a quieter stay near Snow Canyon State Park. It is a long way from Hurricane, Zion and Mesquite, so if those are on the list, split the trip or stay more centrally. For the courses east of town, see Washington, Utah golf.
