Golf in Washington, Utah means two public courses on the east side of St. George: Green Spring, Washington City's canyon muni about 12 minutes from downtown, and Coral Canyon, the hardest course in the area by slope, about 17 minutes out along I-15. Between them you get a cheap scenic round and a serious test, a cluster of newer hotels, and a short drive east to the Hurricane courses and Zion National Park.
This guide covers how the two courses compare, where Washington sits on the map, where to stay, and how to pair rounds. For hole-by-hole detail, see our full guides to Coral Canyon and Green Spring.

Where Washington sits: the east side of St. George
Washington is the city directly east of St. George, and both its courses sit along the I-15 corridor. Green Spring and its two hotels are by I-15 Exit 10 on Green Spring Drive, close enough to the St. George line that it often feels like part of town. Coral Canyon is farther northeast, by the Coral Canyon / SR-9 exit, the road toward Hurricane, Sand Hollow and Zion.
That makes Washington the hinge of Washington County golf. Drive times on our map, from downtown and from a hotel at each end of Washington:
| Course | Area | From downtown St. George | From SpringHill Suites (Green Spring) | From Holiday Inn Express (Coral Canyon) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Green Spring | Washington | 12 min | 3 min | 10 min |
| Coral Canyon | Washington | 17 min | 11 min | 3 min |
| Sky Mountain | Hurricane | 28 min | 22 min | 15 min |
| Sand Hollow | Hurricane | 32 min | 26 min | 19 min |
| Copper Rock | Hurricane | 36 min | 30 min | 22 min |
| St. George Golf Club | St. George | 10 min | 13 min | 17 min |
| Southgate | St. George | 8 min | 12 min | 17 min |
| Sunbrook | St. George, west side | 12 min | 19 min | 23 min |
| The Ledges | St. George, north | 15 min | 21 min | 26 min |
| Black Desert | Ivins | 13 min | 19 min | 24 min |
Two things stand out. From the Green Spring end, the St. George city courses are as close as Coral Canyon. From the Coral Canyon end, the Hurricane courses are closer than anything on the west side of St. George.
What about SunRiver?
SunRiver is sometimes grouped with the east side, but on our map it is south of St. George, off I-15 Exit 2 near the Arizona line. It is 17 minutes from SpringHill Suites and 22 from the Holiday Inn Express by Coral Canyon, so it is not a Washington course in any practical sense. Its 2026-27 rate sheet lists $105 to $115 for 18 for guests from September to May, and $72 with a Washington County ID. See it on the map.
Green Spring: the canyon muni
Green Spring is the cheaper and more central of the two. Its draw is holes 5 and 6, which carry a red-rock gorge: the 5th, "Bottomless Pit," is a par 3 over the gorge with no layup, and the 6th, "Devil's Gulch," is a long par 4 back across it that was long ranked Utah's hardest hole in a Salt Lake Tribune poll. The back nine is gentler on the card but has the course's biggest elevation swings, including an 18th that falls about 101 feet.
The catch is pace. Locals say the canyon holes bottleneck, and a 1:30 pm winter tee time can finish near dark. The other catch is booking: online times are prepay-only, open 14 days out, and singles must call (435) 673-7888 unless they join an open group.
The value is in summer. From June to August, 18 holes with a cart are $50 any day. St. George averages highs near 102°F in July, so that only works at dawn.
Coral Canyon: the slope test
Coral Canyon carries the highest men's slope of any course on our St. George and Mesquite map: 148 from the 7,146-yard Black tees, and 155 on the front nine alone. Fairways are wide, but there are forced carries into greens, and the front has three par 5s and three par 3s, including a 253-yard 4th. Most visitors will be happier on the Blue/White combo (6,151 yards, 135 slope) or the Whites (5,810 yards, 128).
House rules catch groups out: every player needs their own bag, there are no extra riders or extra carts, and the range closes at 2 pm on Tuesdays. Each tee time includes a half cart, range balls and tax.
Because its fairways are cool-season grass and it does not overseed, Coral Canyon stays open through September, when Green Spring and the St. George city courses close in turn.

Pairing rounds from a Washington base
- The Washington double. Coral Canyon in the morning, while you are fresh for its front nine, then Green Spring after lunch, about 10 minutes away. In winter, start early enough that the Green Spring round does not run into the dark. See 36 holes a day in St. George.
- Washington plus Hurricane. Coral Canyon and Sky Mountain, Hurricane's municipal course, are 15 minutes apart via the Holiday Inn Express. Sky Mountain is about $68 to $88 with a cart per an October 2026 newsletter, and it is the closest course to Zion's south entrance by road. Our Hurricane and Sand Hollow golf guide covers that side.
- A park day in the middle. From the Coral Canyon end, Zion is the natural rest day. See golf near Zion National Park.
- Green Spring plus a city course. St. George Golf Club and Southgate are 12 to 13 minutes from the Green Spring hotels.
The Ledges' stay-and-play packages also include Coral Canyon on their six-night, five-round option, alongside Sand Hollow, Copper Rock and Sky Mountain.
