Green Spring Golf Course is Washington City's municipal 18: a par-72 Gene Bates design from 1989 in Washington, Utah, about 12 minutes (5.4 miles) from downtown St. George. It plays 6,765 yards from the Blue tees (72.7 rating, 132 slope) and costs $50 to $90 for 18 with a cart, depending on season and day (Washington City rates page, seen October 2026). It is best known for holes 5 and 6, which carry a red-rock gorge.
The short version: it is one of the better-value rounds in St. George Utah golf. Bring extra balls for the gorge, and book early in the day because the canyon holes back up.

On the map, Green Spring Golf Course sits just off I-15 in Washington, between downtown St. George and the Coral Canyon side of town. The Green Spring course guide has the full scorecard view.
Where Green Spring sits: Washington City, just east of St. George
Washington is the city directly east of St. George along I-15, and Green Spring is the first course you reach heading that way. The course and its two hotels sit by I-15 Exit 10 on Green Spring Drive. Coral Canyon, Washington's other public course, is farther northeast up the interstate toward Hurricane and Zion National Park.
That location makes Green Spring one of the most central rounds in Washington County. Drive times on our map:
| Course | From downtown St. George | From SpringHill Suites at Green Spring |
|---|---|---|
| Green Spring | 12 min | 3 min |
| Coral Canyon (Washington) | 17 min | 11 min |
| Southgate (St. George) | 8 min | 12 min |
| St. George Golf Club | 10 min | 13 min |
| Sunbrook (west side) | 12 min | 19 min |
| Sand Hollow (Hurricane) | 32 min | 26 min |
From the Green Spring hotels, the St. George city courses and Coral Canyon are all within about 15 minutes, and the Hurricane courses under half an hour. For the full east-side picture, see our Washington, Utah golf guide.
Tees and ratings
These are the current USGA numbers. Older scorecards show the Blue tees at 6,859 yards (71.9 / 130), so if you see that card online, it's out of date.
| Tee | Yards | Men (rating / slope) | Women (rating / slope) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue | 6,765 | 72.7 / 132 | 78.5 / 145 |
| White | 6,254 | 69.8 / 129 | 75.7 / 139 |
| Gold | 5,488 | 66.3 / 115 | 71.4 / 129 |
| Red | 4,677 | 62.9 / 108 | 67.3 / 116 |
The White tees still carry a 129 slope at 6,254 yards, so they are not a soft option. The drop to Gold is big, nearly 800 yards and 14 points of slope. Mid-handicappers who lose a lot of balls should take that gap seriously.
The split between the nines is the most useful number on the Green Spring golf course card. From the Blue tees the front nine slopes 138 and the back nine 126. Green Spring front-loads its trouble.
How the round plays: the front nine
Yardages and elevation changes below come from the map's hole outlines and elevation model. Treat them as approximate and play the scorecard on the day.
- #1, par 4, about 393 yds. Plays uphill about 30 feet. A gentle start.
- #2, par 3, about 205 yds. A long one early.
- #3, par 4, about 394 yds. Climbs again, about 38 feet.
- #4, par 5, about 491 yds. Plays slightly downhill.
- #5, par 3, about 174 yds. "Bottomless Pit." The tee shot carries a deep red-rock gorge. There is no layup.
- #6, par 4, about 435 yds. "Devil's Gulch." A long par 4 that crosses back over the gorge. It was long ranked Utah's hardest hole in a Salt Lake Tribune poll.
- #7, par 5, about 520 yds. The longest hole on the front.
- #8, par 4, about 464 yds. Long, but it falls about 55 feet, so it plays shorter.
- #9, par 4, about 425 yds. Another downhill par 4 to the turn.
Holes 5 and 6 are why you bring extra balls. They are also where the course jams up. Locals say the canyon holes bottleneck, and one 2019 reviewer reported a 2:40 front nine.
The back nine
The back nine is gentler on the card (126 slope from Blue), but it has the biggest elevation swings on the course.
- #12, par 4, about 307 yds. The shortest par 4, a chance to get one back.
- #13, par 4, about 405 yds. Climbs about 67 feet, the biggest uphill hole here. Take more club.
- #14, par 4, about 435 yds. Drops about 66 feet straight after.
- #15 and #17, par 3s, about 163 and 172 yds. The two short holes on the back.
- #16, par 5, about 485 yds. Plays uphill about 50 feet and finishes over a desert wash that collects a lot of balls.
- #18, par 5, about 490 yds. Falls about 101 feet, the biggest drop on the course.
The par is balanced: four par 3s and four par 5s, two of each on each nine. Over 18 holes the course climbs about 246 feet and drops about 339 feet tee to green, which is a lot of movement for a city course and one reason nearly everyone rides.
Green Spring golf course rates (2026)
All rates include a cart. Figures are from the Washington City rates page, read October 11, 2026. Rates change, so confirm before you book.
| Season | 18 holes Sun–Thu | 18 holes Fri–Sat | 9 holes Sun–Thu | 9 holes Fri–Sat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Feb–Apr | $80 | $90 | $45 | $50 |
| Sep–Jan and May | $70 | $75 | $40 | $45 |
| Jun–Aug | $50 (any day) | $50 | $30 | $30 |
A few extras worth knowing:
- Twilight: an undated city "February Specials" item (probably 2024) listed $40 Sunday to Thursday and $50 Friday and Saturday from 2:00 pm, cart included, plus a 10-round punch card for $460. Neither appears on the current rates page, so ask the pro shop.
- Range: buckets are $13, $8 and $5. There is also a putting green and a chipping area.
- Cart rules: two carts per group at most, singles get paired, and no extra riders or spectators. Every player needs their own clubs.
- Walking: reportedly allowed, but there is no walking rate.
The $50 summer rate is the deal. Compared with other St. George golf courses, it undercuts St. George's Sunbrook ($54 with cart in summer). The catch is the heat: St. George averages highs near 102°F in July, so book the first tee times. Our guides to St. George green fees and St. George city golf course rates compare it with the other munis.
Booking tee times at Green Spring
Green Spring Golf Course's booking rules trip people up, so read them before you plan around a tee time:
- Online booking is prepay-only and opens 14 days out.
- Singles must call unless they're joining an open group online.
- Refunds go through the pro shop by phone. The policy says to call within 24 hours of your tee time, so confirm the exact cutoff when you book.
- On October 11, 2026, the city page also said "Call to book a tee time, online is down." If the online link fails, phone (435) 673-7888.
Fourteen days is a short window compared with Coral Canyon's 90 days, so a trip built around both courses should lock in Coral Canyon first. Our tee times booking guide lists every course's window.
Overseed and when to go
In 2026 the course closed September 18 and September 21 to 25, then played cart-path only from September 26 to October 11. Expect a similar mid-to-late September window most years. If your trip lands in late September, Coral Canyon, 11 minutes up the road, does not overseed. See the full St. George overseed schedule to find what's open.
The rest of the calendar is a trade-off between price and weather:
- February to April: top rates ($80 to $90) and the best weather.
- May and fall: $70 to $75, with fresh overseeded turf after mid-October.
- Winter: same $70 to $75 rate. Locals warn that a 1:30 pm winter tee time can finish near dark because of the canyon backup, so go earlier.
- Summer: $50 any day, but only worth it at dawn.
Where to stay at Green Spring
Green Spring is one of the Greater Zion golf courses with hotels right on the property:
- SpringHill Suites St. George Washington is built on the course with direct course access. It was seen at about $120 to $200 a night in October 2026 aggregator snapshots, with free hot breakfast, an outdoor pool and the Back 9 Bistro bar. One reviewer noted truck noise from I-15, so ask for a course-side room.
- Residence Inn St. George is next door. It opened in 2025, every suite has a full kitchen, and some suites face the course. It's a good fit for snowbirds or groups cooking their own dinners.
- Best Western Plus Settlers Point, also in Washington, is 7 minutes from both Green Spring and Coral Canyon.
- Courtyard St. George is about 7 minutes away on the east side of St. George, with chain restaurants within walking distance.

Pairing Green Spring with another round
Because it is cheap, central and 18 holes with a cart, Green Spring works as the second round of a 36-hole day. The obvious partner is Coral Canyon, the other Washington course, about 11 minutes from the Green Spring hotels. Play the harder Coral Canyon in the morning and Green Spring after lunch, but keep the winter warning in mind: a mid-afternoon start here can finish near dark. The 36 holes a day in St. George guide covers timing.
Who Green Spring Golf Course suits
- Value hunters: the summer rate is among the cheapest 18-with-cart prices in Southern Utah golf.
- Scenery chasers: the gorge holes and Pine Valley Mountain views are the draw.
- Mid-handicappers: fine from the Whites, as long as you accept a lost ball or two on 5 and 6.
- Not ideal for: anyone on a tight schedule. Pace slows at the canyon.
