Yes, you can play 36 holes a day in St. George, Utah, but only with the right pairing and the right month. Pick two courses within about 15 minutes of each other, whether that's in Washington, Hurricane, the city or out toward Ivins, put the slower round first at dawn, and use a twilight rate for the second. March, April, October and early November give you the daylight and temperatures to do it comfortably.

This is a planning guide for golfers who want to squeeze every hole out of a short St. George golf trip. Drive times are our map estimates from nearby hotels and from downtown St. George, not routed GPS times. Rates were seen in October 2026 and change.

When 36 holes a day is realistic (and when it isn't)

The deciding factors are frost in winter and heat in summer. NOAA averages for St. George:

Months Avg high What it means for 36 holes
Dec-Jan53-54°FLows below freezing; frost delays push tee times to mid-morning, and these are the shortest days. 27 is the realistic max.
Feb59°FFrost delays still possible; mid-day is comfortable. Tight but doable with an early pairing.
Mar-Apr68-75°FBest window. Breezier afternoons, and April is one of the windier months.
May85°FGood if you start early; the afternoon heat and wind build.
Jun-Aug96-102°FDawn golf only. A second round means playing in near-100°F heat.
Sep92°FCourses close in turn for overseed. Fewer options.
Oct-Nov64-79°FExcellent. Early October is event-crowded; November has the lightest wind of the year, with frost delays starting late in the month.

Mesquite averages roughly 7°F warmer in January, which makes it the better winter choice for a long day. See St. George golf weather by month for the full table, and St. George golf in November for the month we'd pick.

Sunset times aren't part of our data, so check them for your dates. Course notes give a sense of how short winter days get: locals say a 1:30 winter tee time at Green Spring can finish near dark, and twilight times at Sand Hollow, Falcon Ridge and Wolf Creek are sold without a guarantee you'll finish 18.

Where 36-hole days work: the St. George golf clusters

The trick to two rounds a day is staying inside one cluster. Washington County's courses group naturally by side of town, and the drive from downtown St. George tells you which pairs make sense:

Cluster Courses (drive from downtown St. George)
Central and south St. GeorgeDixie Red Hills 7 min, Southgate 8, St. George Golf Club 10, SunRiver 14
West side, toward Ivins and Snow CanyonSunbrook 12, Black Desert 13, The Ledges 15
East side, WashingtonGreen Spring 12, Coral Canyon 17
Hurricane, toward ZionSky Mountain 28, Sand Hollow 32, Copper Rock 36
Mesquite, NV (down I-15)Oasis 50, Wolf Creek 52, Conestoga 56

Crossing clusters mid-day is where 36-hole plans fall apart. From the Black Desert Resort hotel in Ivins to Sand Hollow in Hurricane, for example, is about 42 minutes on our estimates, on top of two rounds. Pick your hotel inside the cluster you want to play; our guide to where to stay for golf in St. George maps the bases to the courses.

Oasis Palmer + Oasis CanyonsEureka, Mesquite: 4 + 4 min$190 + $130 (fall 2026)

The Washington double: Green Spring and Coral Canyon

The best value pairing on the east side of St. George. From Best Western Plus Settlers Point in Washington, Green Spring and Coral Canyon are each about 7 minutes. Play Coral Canyon first: rounds there have been reported at close to 5 hours, and its hard front nine (155 slope from the tips) is better fresh. Green Spring's canyon holes on 5 and 6 bottleneck, so it's not a quick afternoon either; try to be off the first tee by early afternoon. The Coral Canyon course page has the tee table, and our Washington, Utah golf guide covers the east side in full.

The city double: Southgate and St. George Golf Club

The cheapest 36 in town. From Hilton Garden Inn, Southgate is 5 minutes and St. George Golf Club 7. Both cost $44 walking or $64 with cart from October to May. Southgate has a range; St. George Golf Club doesn't, so warm up at Southgate first. Southgate is the best walk in the city system, and St. George Golf Club is long but forgiving (par 73, slope 124 from the Blue tees). City courses book 14 days out, and neither has a twilight rate.

Sunbrook's 27 plus a sunset nine

Sunbrook has three nines (Pointe, Woodbridge, Blackrock). Book an 18 and then add the third nine for $38 walking. Finish at Dixie Red Hills, the city's first course, where nine short holes under red cliffs cost $27 walking. The Deseret News recommends riding the Pointe for its elevation changes; Dixie Red Hills is very walkable. From The Advenire downtown, Sunbrook is 11 minutes and Dixie Red Hills 6.

The Hurricane double: Sky Mountain and Sand Hollow

Sky Mountain is short (6,306 yards from the Blue tees) and about $88 with cart in peak. Play it at dawn, then drive to Sand Hollow for its afternoon rate: $175 to $200 after about 3 pm on spring 2027 weekdays, or $115 to $125 after 2 pm in November. Both are close to Comfort Inn & Suites Zion Park Area in Hurricane. The catch: Sand Hollow twilight isn't guaranteed to finish 18, and Sky Mountain has a reputation for slow play, so go early.

If the light runs out, swap the Sand Hollow Championship for its 9-hole Links, a walking course ($80 weekdays in spring). The Sand Hollow course page and our Hurricane and Sand Hollow golf guide have more on this end of the county.

The west-side splurge: Black Desert and The Ledges

Stay at Black Desert Resort in Ivins and the resort-guest rate on the Black Desert course is $325 in peak (non-guests $450). Black Desert runs 12-minute tee intervals and includes a forecaddie. Then drive about 18 minutes to The Ledges, which dropped to $145 to $175 from 2 pm in October 2026 and $112 to $125 at 4 pm. The Ledges' course setting allows 4 hours 20 minutes for 18. The Black Desert course page has the tees.

The Mesquite one-clubhouse double: Oasis Palmer and Canyons

The easiest 36 logistically: two 18-hole courses sharing one clubhouse at Oasis in Mesquite, Nevada, about 50 minutes down I-15 from downtown St. George. Both recommend 4:30 rounds on the scorecard. Play the friendlier Palmer in the morning ($190 before about 1 pm in fall 2026), then the harder Canyons at the $130 afternoon rate. Eureka Casino Resort is 4 minutes away if you stay over.

From a St. George hotel, this works as a long day trip. Mesquite is on Pacific time, an hour behind St. George, so you gain an hour on the way down and lose it coming home. Washington County residents also qualify for the Oasis resident rate with ID. The Mesquite golf day trip from St. George guide plans that day in detail.

Let twilight pay for round two

The second round is where the savings are. Rates seen October 2026:

Course Twilight / afternoon rate
The Ledges$145-$175 from 2 pm (Oct); $79-$95 after 2-3 pm (Nov); $75-$105 after 2:30 pm (Jan-Feb)
Sand Hollow$75-$85 after ~1 pm (Dec-Jan); $115-$125 after 2 pm (Nov); $175-$200 after ~3 pm (Mar-Apr)
SunRiver$60 in peak (after 2 pm Sep-Oct and Feb-May, after 1 pm Nov-Jan); $41 after 10 am in summer
Coral CanyonAbout $85 in peak, $75 in Dec and Jan
Oasis$130 from ~1 pm (fall 2026); $105 from noon (Dec-Jan)

The City of St. George courses (Sunbrook, St. George Golf Club, Southgate, Dixie Red Hills) publish no twilight rate. More in twilight golf in St. George.

Courses not to double up

Some rounds take most of a day on their own:

  • Wolf Creek: the club says rounds will most likely exceed five hours, and twilight groups often don't finish. Make it your only 18, or add a quick nine.
  • Coral Canyon: about 5 hours reported in 2024 reviews. Always first in the day.
  • Sand Hollow Championship: one 2021 reviewer reported 5:05 for a twosome. Pair it with the Links, not another 18.

Getting through 36 holes a day in one piece

  • Ride the second round. City courses allow walking and price it lower, but a cart in the afternoon saves your legs.
  • Carry water. Reviewers note Coral Canyon cart coolers can be empty on hot afternoons.
  • Book two separate tee times in advance. Don't count on walking on; same-day and singles bookings often require a phone call.
  • Eat at the turn. Sunbrook's cafe asks you to call ahead at the turn; The Ledges has the Fish Rock Grille.
