Fact box: Myrtle Beach golf in fall: the October peak, rates and overseed

Myrtle Beach golf in fall is two seasons in one. September is the wettest month and the peak of hurricane season, but from October to early November the Grand Strand has its second golf high season, with normal highs near 76F, an ocean in the 70s and green fees close to spring levels. Rates start dropping toward winter after mid-November.

Below: fall weather, fall 2026 rates by course, the overseed and aerification calendar, and the events that matter.

Quick facts

  • Fall peak: October to early November.
  • October normals: 75.6F high, 56.3F low, 4.20 inches of rain on 8.7 days.
  • September: the wettest month (6.65 inches) and the Atlantic hurricane peak around September 10.
  • Ocean: about 73F in October.
  • Barefoot walk-on rate, October 26 to November 8, 2026: from $175 on peak days, $150 Sunday afternoon to Tuesday.
  • Watch for: rye overseeding in late September and October, with possible cart-path-only days.

Inland, the Conway station shows October as its driest stretch, with about 6.4 rain days and a 76.9F normal high. November mornings get cool, with normal lows near 46F at the beach, so early tee times call for a layer.

Hurricane season and a fall trip

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and the Grand Strand's main risk window is August to October. Recent storms show the range: Matthew in October 2016, Florence in September 2018 with major river flooding in Conway and inland Horry County, and Ian, which made landfall near Georgetown on September 30, 2022.

For 2026, no Grand Strand landfall or significant local damage was found as of November 1. Subtropical Storm Josephine stayed offshore on October 21-22, bringing rough surf and tidal flooding from the Carolinas northward, with no Myrtle Beach damage reports found. For an August to October trip, check your lodging's cancellation terms and consider travel insurance. River flooding inland can last for days after a storm.

Barefoot's rates apply equally to the Love, Fazio, Norman and Dye courses. For fall 2027, Barefoot has already posted $225 for peak days from September 23 to October 24, 2027.

Just over the state line, Thistle showed GolfNow prices from $84.48 on a Tuesday afternoon to $155.48 on a Friday morning for November 2-8, 2026. Big Cats sold a fall special for Tiger's Eye, Leopard's Chase, Lion's Paw and Panther's Run: $252 for any three or $335 for all four, through November 15, 2026. Our Brunswick Islands golf guide covers that side. The full rate picture is in our Myrtle Beach golf rates guide.

Overseed and aerification in the fall

Most Grand Strand courses are bermuda. In late September and October many overseed with rye for winter colour, which can bring temporary cart-path-only days. Others leave the bermuda to go dormant from about late November.

  • Tidewater: overseeds rye around Thanksgiving (2026 dates to be set) and stays open during it. See the Tidewater course guide.
  • Caledonia: a November 9, 2025 reviewer was told the course was cart-path-only because of overseeding; dates are not published.
  • Long Bay: a fall 2026 reviewer played the day before greens aeration, so expect a fall window there.
  • Crow Creek: several September-October 2026 reviews reported patchy greens slow to recover from aerification.
  • Wall-to-wall overseed in winter 2025-26: Pine Lakes, Grande Dunes Resort, Arrowhead, King's North and Wild Wing Avocet, per a package seller's list. Plans for 2026-27 were not confirmed.

Ask any course about maintenance dates before you lock in a fall package. Our Myrtle Beach winter conditions guide explains overseeded versus dormant bermuda.

Fall events that affect golf

  • World Am: about 3,000 amateurs fill many Grand Strand courses for a week in late August and early September (2026: August 30 check-in to September 4 finals; 2027 not published). Host-course times are blocked that week.
  • After Labor Day: the beach empties and rooms get cheaper; fall golf rates start late in September.
  • Fall Bike Week Rally: September 25 to October 4, 2026 per one listing. It is smaller than the spring rally but busies the roads around Murrells Inlet and Surfside.
  • Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship: TPC Myrtle Beach hosts it each year in late fall, so check for tournament closures. See the TPC Myrtle Beach course guide.
  • Thanksgiving: November 26, 2026. The week is busy with families.

When to go in the fall

For the best weather and conditions, aim for October to early November. For lower prices, the second and third weeks of November keep mild days (the November normal high is 66.4F) at lower rates: Barefoot's walk-on rate drops to $158 on peak days from November 9, 2026, and to $129 from November 23. After that you are into winter pricing; see Myrtle Beach golf in winter.

Choosing between seasons? Our Myrtle Beach golf in spring guide covers the other peak, and best time to golf in Myrtle Beach goes month by month. For a Gulf Coast comparison, see Destin golf in fall. If your group plays only one Barefoot course, start with the Barefoot Love course guide.
