Myrtle Beach summer golf is the low-rate season, with open tee sheets at dawn and in the evening. The price is heat and storms: July's normal high is 87.6F at the beach and about 91F inland, with storms on 11 to 13 days a month. Beach traffic peaks too, so play early and drive early.

Here is what summer on the Grand Strand means for a golf trip, with summer 2026 and 2027 rates, aerification dates and the events that fill the beach.

Quick facts

  • Summer season: Memorial Day (May 31, 2027) to Labor Day (September 6, 2027).
  • July normals: 87.6F high, 73.7F low, 5.40 inches of rain on 12.6 days.
  • Golf: the low-rate season; rooms and traffic are at their peak.
  • Best tee times: dawn and twilight.
  • Aerification: most courses roughly June to August.
  • Big golf week: the World Am, late August to early September.

Summer weather on the Grand Strand

NOAA 1991-2020 normals at the North Myrtle Beach airport, with ocean temperatures from National Weather Service readings at Springmaid Pier.

Month Normal high Normal low Rain Rain days Ocean

July87.6F73.7F5.40 in12.683.7F
August86.5F72.5F6.25 in12.383.0F

Inland is hotter. The Conway station's July normal high is 90.8F and August is its wettest month at 7.81 inches, which matters for the courses along US 501, SC 22 and SC 90. Nights stay in the 70s, so even dawn rounds are humid. Carry more water than you think you need. Our Myrtle Beach weather by month guide covers the rest of the year.

Hurricane season opens June 1, though the main risk here runs August to October. Summer storms can still bring flooding rain, as Chantal did in July 2025.

For comparison, the same Barefoot table starts at $225 for spring 2027 peak mornings. See the True Blue course guide and our cheap golf in Myrtle Beach guide.

Summer aerification dates

Most courses aerify greens in summer, usually with a few days of sanded greens or closures. Some have posted dates:

Course Aerification Notes
Barefoot FazioJun 7-12, 202710-12 days to recover
Barefoot DyeJun 21-27, 202710-12 days to recover
Barefoot LoveJul 5-10, 202710-12 days to recover

TidewaterAug 1-8, 2027Aug 2-9 in 2026
MeadowlandsJune in 2026per a review; 2027 not posted

Barefoot staggers the dates across its four courses, so check which one is recovering in your week. See the Barefoot Norman course guide. For everyone else, ask the shop before you book a summer package.

Summer traffic, events and crowds

Summer is peak season for beach rooms, with the highest rates and multi-night or weekly minimums on oceanfront condos. The worst traffic is on summer Saturdays, rental changeover day, on US 501, US 17 and Ocean Boulevard. Add 20 to 60 minutes or more to drive estimates.

  • Carolina Country Music Fest: June 10-13, 2027 in central Myrtle Beach. Central hotels fill and Ocean Boulevard is congested for four days.
  • July 4: a Sunday in 2027 and the peak beach week.
  • Late August: beach crowds thin once schools restart.
  • World Am: about 3,000 amateur golfers across dozens of courses for a week (2026: August 30 check-in to September 4 finals; 2027 not yet published). Host-course tee times are blocked and golf lodging is busier. Entry requires a handicap. The World Am's page listed Barefoot villas from $77 a night for August 28 to September 6, 2026, and Wedgefield sold World Am practice rounds at $35.

Slow play is a summer complaint at some courses: 2026 reviews of World Tour Golf Links mention slow rounds with no marshals in July and August. Our Myrtle Beach events guide has dates for the full year.

A family summer golf trip

Summer is family beach season, and some courses cater to it:

  • Junior rates: Caledonia and True Blue charge juniors 12 and under $29 any time, and 17 and under $29 after noon, in summer 2027.
  • Pine Lakes: the 1927 "Granddaddy," which advertises a Kids Play Free family deal on its site.
  • Short courses: the Aero Club, a lit 18-hole par-3, and the Tupelo Bay par-58 executive course, with a range, for beginners and kids.
  • Off the course: Topgolf near Broadway at the Beach, Ripley's Aquarium, Alligator Adventure at Barefoot Landing and Pelicans baseball. See things to do in Myrtle Beach and our driving range guide.

Summer golf tips

  1. Book the first tee time. You beat the heat, the storms and the traffic.
  2. Look for twilight. Caledonia's 2026 summer twilight was $79 after 4 p.m., against $129 for a morning.
  3. Check GolfNow terms. Hot Deals are prepaid. GolfNow terms seen on several Grand Strand listings in 2026 allow refunds only with 24 hours' notice, and Azalea Sands' GolfNow times need 72 hours.
  4. Ask about aerification. A cheap August round on sanded greens is no bargain.

Our Myrtle Beach tee times guide covers booking systems and windows. For a Gulf Coast comparison, see Destin summer golf.

Questions golfers ask

Is summer a good time to golf in Myrtle Beach?

For value, yes. Summer is the low-rate season for golf, with open tee sheets early and late in the day. The catch is heat and storms: July's normal high is 87.6F at the beach and about 91F inland, with rain on 12 to 13 days a month.

How much is summer golf in Myrtle Beach?

Far less than spring. Barefoot's walk-on rates for June 14 to August 4, 2027 start at $124 on Thursday to Sunday mornings and $95 to $113 early in the week. Caledonia's summer 2027 specials are from $129 in the morning and $109 in the afternoon, and GolfNow showed Eagle Nest at $50.99 on an August 2026 morning.

Do Myrtle Beach courses aerify in summer?

Most do, roughly June to August, with a few days of sanded greens or closures. Barefoot has already posted its 2027 dates, from June 7-12 on the Fazio to July 19-24 on the Norman, with 10 to 12 days to recover. Tidewater aerifies August 1-8, 2027. Ask before you book.

What is the best time of day to play in a Myrtle Beach summer?

Dawn or twilight. Summer afternoons bring the heat and most of the storms, with highs in the upper 80s at the beach. Early tee times also beat the worst of the beach traffic on US 17 and US 501.

When is the World Am in 2027?

The 2027 dates were not published as of November 2026. The 2026 Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship ran from an August 30 check-in to September 4 finals, and the 2025 event was August 25-29 with a field capped at 3,000. Entry requires a handicap.

Yes. Caledonia's and True Blue's summer 2027 specials charge juniors 12 and under $29 any time and juniors 17 and under $29 after noon, from June 21 to August 31, 2027. Pine Lakes advertises a Kids Play Free family deal on its site.

Is hurricane season a risk for a summer golf trip?

The season starts June 1, but the Grand Strand's main risk window is August to October. Summer storms can still bring flooding rain, as Chantal did in July 2025. Check cancellation terms on lodging for any late-summer booking.
