Gulf Shores Golf in Spring: How to Play March, April and May Without the Headaches

Gulf Shores golf in spring brings some of the best weather of the year and the busiest tee sheets. March highs average about 69°F and April about 75°F, but February to May is peak season, with the highest green fees, the tightest tee sheets and spring-break traffic from March through April. Book early, avoid Saturdays on Hwy 59, and expect wind in March.

Here's how spring breaks down month by month, what it costs, and when you need to book.

Gulf Shores golf in spring: the weather month by month

There's no long-term weather station in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. These are NOAA 1991-2020 normals for Pensacola NAS, the nearest coastal station, about 24 miles east of Gulf Shores. Wind is the average daily speed at Jack Edwards Airport in Gulf Shores (2016-2025), and water temperature is from NOAA's Pensacola gauge (2016-2025).

March is when peak golf starts. It's also the windiest month at the Gulf Shores airport. On the open, links-style holes at Kiva Dunes, where the breeze crosses nearly every fairway, that's the main defense. Inland courses like Craft Farms, about 5 miles off the beach, see less wind.

April brings mid-70s days, still breezy, and the highest green fees and tightest weekend tee times.

May is in the low 80s and the driest month of the year, with about 3.2 inches of rain. It's the last good window before summer heat and Memorial Day crowds.

Up the Eastern Shore, NOAA's Fairhope station runs a few degrees warmer by day (about 72°F in March) and cooler at night (about 46°F), which matters for an early tee time at the Lakewood Club at the Grand Hotel.

Spring break and event dates that affect a golf trip

Spring is the heaviest non-summer lodging season, which shapes Gulf Shores golf in spring as much as the weather does. Tourism officials say an early Easter squeezes breakers into March, and Easter 2027 is March 28.

In 2026 Gulf Shores banned alcohol on its beaches from March 1 to April 28. The ban has been renewed every year since 2016, but the 2027 window hadn't been voted on yet.

The Hangout Music Festival wasn't held in 2026. The city approved a 2027 festival, but no dates had been announced as of October 2026. When it runs in mid-May, about 40,000 tickets take over Gulf Shores lodging, so avoid that weekend if it returns.

Spring green fees on Gulf Shores golf courses

Many spring 2027 rates weren't visible yet when we checked in October 2026, because several tee sheets only open 14 to 46 days out. This is what was published. Rates change.

Kiva Dunes' rate tiers rise again from mid-February, so expect March and April to sit at or above that February figure. Its twilight discount is about $30 to $40 a player.

Gulf Shores Golf Club and GlenLakes hadn't shown peak-season rates yet. For reference, Gulf Shores Golf Club charged $139 riding in the morning in October and November 2026, and GlenLakes' 2026 rate card is $86 plus tax before 1:52 PM and $66 from 2 PM.

When to book spring tee times

The booking window decides Gulf Shores golf in spring more than price does. Public windows seen in October 2026:

Peninsula and Craft Farms don't publish a public window. Peninsula says booking earlier gets a lower dynamic rate, and Perdido Bay lets groups of four or more book further out by calling the shop. Since June 1, 2026, RTJ advance tee times are online only, with same-day times still by phone.

Spring maintenance dates

Most Gulf Coast aerification happens in summer, but RTJ has posted two spring dates at Magnolia Grove for 2027: greens aerification on the Falls Course from March 8 and the Crossings from March 15, each with seven days of recovery. If Mobile is on your plan, avoid those weeks. The Lakewood courses at the Grand Hotel have weekly maintenance days: Monday on Azalea and Tuesday on Dogwood, and RTJ ranges close for part of every Tuesday.

Getting there and getting around in spring

Pensacola (PNS) is the main airport, about 69 minutes from Gulf Shores and 56 minutes from Orange Beach by free-flow estimate. Southwest adds Orlando nonstops from March 11, 2027. More in flying to Gulf Shores for golf.

On the ground:

• Avoid Saturday on Hwy 59. It's condo check-in day, and traffic backs up from Foley to the beach during spring break. Arrive Friday or midweek.
• Use the Beach Express. The Foley Beach Express bridge has been toll-free since May 2024, and the Baldwin Beach Express links I-10 to it, bypassing most of Hwy 59.
• From PNS to Orange Beach, the Perdido Key route skips Hwy 59 entirely.

Spring lodging costs

Spring weeknight snapshots for March 17, 2027, seen on hilton.com in October 2026 (before tax, typical, not quotes):

• Island House Hotel, Orange Beach: about $309 to $335.
• Hampton Inn & Suites Orange Beach: about $191 to $304, with free breakfast.
• Hilton Garden Inn Orange Beach: about $147 to $211.

A spring week that works

• Fort Morgan day: Peninsula in the morning, Kiva Dunes in the afternoon. Both are on Fort Morgan Road, so it's one trip.
• Craft Farms day: Cotton Creek and Cypress Bend share a clubhouse 12 minutes from the beach, and the inland setting cuts the March wind.
• Perdido day: Lost Key and Perdido Bay are about 9 minutes apart on the Florida side.
• Late-May option: if your dates are flexible, May is the driest month, with spring-break crowds gone and Memorial Day (May 31, 2027) still ahead.
