Fact box: Planning a Gulf Shores Buddies Golf Trip: Condos, Group Rules and Budgets for 4 to 8

A Gulf Shores buddies golf trip works best with one big condo or house, two foursomes on back-to-back tee times, and a plan that keeps most rounds on one side of the map. Kiva Dunes, The Beach Club and Turquoise Place all rent units big enough for a full group, and Kiva Dunes and Craft Farms will build group golf around the stay.

This is the logistics guide for a Gulf Shores buddies golf trip on the Alabama Gulf Coast: where 4 to 8 golfers can sleep together, the group rules at each course, how to set tees for mixed handicaps, and what it costs. Drive times are free-flow road estimates without traffic. Fees were seen in October 2026 and change.

Step 1: Get the whole group under one roof

For a Gulf Shores buddies golf trip, one unit with a kitchen and a shared living room beats four hotel rooms. These properties rent group-sized units:

Property Units Golf nearby Watch out for
Turquoise Place, Orange Beach3-5 bedroom condos; a 4BR sleeps about 8-15Lost Key 19 minStrict cancellation, resort + cleaning + parking fees
The Beach Club, Fort Morgan1-5 bedroom condos, 2-5 bedroom cottagesKiva Dunes 3 minHalf the total forfeited inside 45 days; 1-2 cars per unit
Kiva Dunes rentals, Fort MorganCondos on the course, beach homes for 6-8+Kiva Dunes 0 minNo published prices
Gulf Shores Plantation, Fort MorganMostly 1-2 bedroom condos, some up to 6 BRKiva Dunes 2 minFees and quality vary by manager
Caribe Resort, Orange Beach3BR/3BA sleeps up to 10; 4BR unitsLost Key 17 minRules set by each unit's manager
Lost Key condos, Perdido Key2-3 bedroom condos; a 3BR sleeps 6-9Lost Key 0 minGolf not included

Turquoise Place is the splurge: a 4-bedroom unit gives each pair a king suite with its own bath, and many units have a balcony hot tub and gas grill. One late-November snapshot showed about $578 a night before fees (seen October 2026). Two garage spaces come with the unit; a third car is $31.05 a night.

Kiva Dunes is the golf-first choice. Renters who book direct get discounted golf and preferred tee times outside peak golf season, and the resort sells Stay & Play packages for 2 to 100 golfers that can mix Kiva Dunes with Peninsula, Craft Farms or Gulf Shores Golf Club. Cancel 30 days out for a refund.

Craft Farms has its own answer: The Bunkhouse, six bedrooms with two queens each, next to the first tee, with bag storage and carts staged on your tee-time days. Gulf Shores Plantation is the cheaper beach option next to Kiva Dunes; Vacasa listings averaged about $160 to $276 a night for 1-2 bedroom units (undated averages, seen October 2026), so groups usually rent two adjacent condos.

If you'd rather have hotel rooms, the 2-queen suites at Embassy Suites Gulf Shores sleep six, with free breakfast and an evening reception. Suites showed from $306 a night for October 22-23, 2026, including the daily resort charge (about $46 a night with tax per Hotels.com); parking adds $30-35 a night. Our Gulf Shores golf hotels guide compares every option.

Step 2: Pick the right side of the beach

Gulf Shores golf runs in three clusters: Fort Morgan Road to the west (Kiva Dunes, Peninsula), the Hwy 59 corridor in the middle (Gulf Shores Golf Club, Craft Farms, GlenLakes in Foley), and the Florida line to the east (Lost Key, Perdido Bay). Estimated drive minutes from the group bases:

From Kiva Dunes Peninsula Gulf Shores GC Craft Farms GlenLakes Lost Key Perdido Bay

Embassy Suites (central)2313611213334
Turquoise Place35251818221921

A Fort Morgan condo is perfect for Kiva Dunes and Peninsula, but nearly an hour from Lost Key. An Orange Beach condo flips that. A central base keeps every course within about 35 minutes.

Step 3: Know the group rules before you book

Course Rule that affects groups
Gulf Shores Golf ClubOnline max 4 per booking, card required; groups over four call the pro shop; 46-day window
Kiva DunesPublic window 120 days; cancel 48+ hours ahead; free Golf Genius live scoring for groups
Peninsula + Craft FarmsGroups can book both clubs together (63 holes) through Kevin Whitney, 251-968-8009
GlenLakes, FoleyOnline times are prepaid and non-refundable; book by phone if plans may change
Perdido BayNo singles or twosomes before 10 am; groups of 4+ can book past 14 days by calling
Lost Key14-day window opens at midnight; $15 fee for non-golfing riders; 3% card fee plus 7.5% Florida tax

At Peninsula, the club picks which two of its three nines you play on the day, so you can't book a specific 18. Gulf Shores Golf Club says it targets four-hour rounds and uses rangers.

Step 4: Set tees for a mixed-handicap group

Most groups mix a single-digit player with a 20-plus. Let everyone pick their own tee.

  • Lost Key is the stiffest test: 143 slope from the Black tees (6,801 yards). The Whites play 6,001 yards at 69.3/128 and the Golds 5,179 at 65.9/110. Our research suggests playing a tee forward. See the Lost Key course guide.
  • Kiva Dunes is harder than its old scorecard suggests: current USGA ratings are 74.9/142 from the 7,122-yard Gold tees, 72.0/137 from the Blues (6,505) and 69.6/124 from the Whites (5,878). The holes run east-west, so the Gulf wind blows across nearly every fairway. Move up a set on a windy day. See the Kiva Dunes course guide.
  • Craft Farms gives you two tests from one clubhouse. Cotton Creek is longer (7,127 yards, 74.2/129 from the Golds). Cypress Bend is shorter with wide fairways, but water comes in on nearly every hole and the USGA rates it higher: 72.9/135 from 6,848 yards. Pick a tee one step forward there.
  • Peninsula is long from the back (6,916 to 7,125 yards depending on which nines you get) and slopes 131 to 135 from the #1 tees, 126 to 130 from the #2s.

Step 5: Pick a budget tier for your Gulf Shores buddies golf trip

Per player, cart included, seen October 2026. Rates change, and several courses price dynamically.

Value trip. GlenLakes ran from $85.50 early to $49.25 from about 1:40 pm and $37 after 3 pm on its October 27, 2026 tee sheet. Gulf Shores Golf Club's twilight was $99 (Oct-Nov) and $79 from 12:30 pm in early December. Lost Key showed $65 online after 1 pm, and Perdido Bay $65 from 1 to 3 pm. Soldiers Creek is $65 or $49 after 1 pm, but recent reviews of its conditions are poor.

Winter group trip. The Craft Farms Six-Pack was $420 for six rounds (about $70 each) on either course, plus tax, with orders due November 15, 2026. GlenLakes sells a snowbird 6-pack at $350 plus tax, about $58 a round. Peninsula's winter rates start from $89, and the club says booking earlier gets a lower price. If the group plays six or more rounds, those cards beat most daily rates in Gulf Shores.

Bucket-list round. Kiva Dunes is Golf Digest's #13 in Alabama (2025-26). Late-October 2026 times were $174.77 before 2 pm and $144.86 after; December and January drop to $130.84 and $107.48.

Packages are the other route: Kiva Dunes and Coastal Alabama Golf (251-968-5339) both build multi-course stays, priced on request. See Gulf Shores golf packages.

Step 6: Add an RTJ Trail day

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail has two sites within reach. Lakewood at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear is about 51 minutes from central Gulf Shores, and Magnolia Grove in Mobile about 96. RTJ's "Swing" special pairs one round at each: $295 in fall (September 8 to November 15, 2026) and $216 in winter (November 16, 2026 to March 7, 2027), booked through RTJ Reservations at least 48 hours ahead. Lakewood is cart-only and has two 18s; Dogwood, the harder one, slopes 141 from the tips. Our RTJ Trail near Gulf Shores post has the details.

Step 7: Flights, cars and parking

  • Fly into Pensacola (PNS). It has the most airlines and is about 69 minutes from Gulf Shores and 56 from Orange Beach. See flying to Gulf Shores for golf.
  • Count the parking spaces. The Beach Club caps units at one or two vehicles and charges $40 per vehicle to register. Turquoise Place includes two garage spaces. Island House gives free parking for one car per room. If you're towing a trailer, the Holiday Inn Express Gulf Shores allows trucks, trailers and RVs.
  • Avoid Saturday arrivals in summer. Saturday is condo changeover day and Hwy 59 jams from Foley to the beach.
  • Rental clubs exist if someone won't fly with a bag: Kiva Dunes rents Titleist or TaylorMade sets for $75, Gulf Shores Golf Club Callaway sets for $50 per 18.

When to go

Spring (February to May) is peak: highs of about 64 to 82F, the highest green fees and the tightest tee sheets, with spring break crowds in March and April. October and November bring about 70 to 79F days, quieter tee sheets and lower rates. The National Shrimp Festival is normally the big October weekend in Gulf Shores; the 2026 festival was canceled because of Hurricane Isaias, and 2027 dates aren't published. Winter is mild (highs about 61 to 64F) and the cheapest time for a group, though bermuda that isn't overseeded goes tan. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with the main risk from August to October; in October 2026, Hurricane Isaias forced a mandatory evacuation in Gulf Shores. Our best time to golf in Gulf Shores post goes month by month.

Plan it on the map

Put your group's courses on the 3D map of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach golf and click each rental to see the drive to every tee. A condo next to Kiva Dunes is 53 minutes from Lost Key, and that matters when eight people on a Gulf Shores buddies golf trip need to make a 7:30 tee time.
