Average high by month: The Best Time to Golf in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Month by Month

The best time to golf in Gulf Shores is March through May, when highs run about 69 to 82°F, followed by October and November at about 70 to 79°F with fewer crowds. Spring has the highest green fees and the busiest tee sheets. For the lowest rates, go in December and January, and in summer play at dawn.

Here's the whole year, with the weather, prices and events that change the answer.

Gulf Shores golf weather, month by month

Temperatures and rain days are NOAA 1991-2020 normals for Pensacola NAS, the nearest coastal station with full records (Gulf Shores itself has none). Wind is the average daily speed at Jack Edwards National Airport in Gulf Shores, 2016-2025. Water temperature is the Pensacola Bay average, 2016-2025.

The best time to golf in Gulf Shores, by what you care about

Best weather and value together: October to mid-November

This is the window we'd pick. October averages about 79°F with about seven rain days, and November about 70°F. Crowds drop after Labor Day, and local tourism treats fall as the second busy golf season, not the first.

Prices are lower than spring at the courses that publish them. Kiva Dunes was $174.77 before 2 PM in late October 2026 and $148.60 before 1 PM in November. Gulf Shores Golf Club ran $139 in the morning and $99 twilight through November.

Two caveats. Hurricane season runs to Nov 30, and the National Shrimp Festival in October normally fills Gulf Shores hotels and jams the south end of Hwy 59. The 2026 festival (Oct 8-11) was canceled because of Hurricane Isaias; once 2027 dates are published, pick a week either side of it.

Best spring golf: March to May

Highs climb from about 69°F in March to 82°F in May, and May is the driest month. This is the main golf season, with the highest green fees and the tightest weekend tee times. Spring break runs all of March and April. Easter is Mar 28, 2027.

Spring is also the windiest time of year, which matters most at Kiva Dunes, where the holes run east-west across the Gulf breeze. Book March weekends early: Kiva opens tee times 120 days out, so a mid-March round opens in mid-November. Our Gulf Shores spring golf post covers March in detail.

Cheapest: December and January

The coast is mild (highs of 61 to 64°F) and quiet outside holiday weeks. The seasonal rate cards are at their lowest:

  • Kiva Dunes: $130.84 before about 1 PM, $107.48 after (Dec 2026 to Jan 2027).
  • Gulf Shores Golf Club: $95 morning, $79 from 12:30 PM (Dec 5, 2026).
  • Peninsula: from $89, dynamic, Nov 15 to Mar 31.
  • Craft Farms: winter Six-Pack, about $70 a round to Feb 15, 2027.

The trade-off is turf. Many courses let their bermuda go dormant and tan from about December to March. Peninsula says its turf stays green all winter, which makes it the pick if that matters. Read more in golf in Gulf Shores in winter.

Summer: June to August

Golf is the off-peak product in summer even though beach lodging is at its most expensive. Highs are about 87 to 89°F, rain falls on 11 to 13 days a month, and storms usually build in the afternoon. GolfNow prepaid rates seen for September to early October 2026 at Kiva Dunes ran about $114 to $154, and Soldiers Creek showed $55.72 with cart in mid-August. Wind is lightest from July to September, about 5 mph. Our summer golf in Gulf Shores post has the deals.

Summer is also aeration season. Many bermuda courses aerify greens from June to August. At Lakewood, Dogwood was aerified Jun 1-7, 2026 and Azalea Aug 3-9, 2026, each with about 14 days of recovery.

The months to think twice about: August to October

The statistical Atlantic hurricane peak is around Sept 10, and the main risk for this coast is August to October. Hurricane Sally made landfall at Gulf Shores on Sept 16, 2020, and Hurricane Ivan came ashore nearby on Sept 16, 2004. Both damaged courses. In October 2026, Hurricane Isaias forced a mandatory evacuation of Gulf Shores, though no course damage was reported. September is also the wettest month at the reference station. If you book then, check cancellation terms, and consider travel insurance.

What the same round costs across the year

Weather is half of the best time to golf in Gulf Shores. The other half is price. These are rates seen in October 2026 on course sites and tee sheets; they change.

At the RTJ Trail, winter is the cheap season, not summer, and Kiva Dunes' rate tiers bottom out in December and January before rising again from mid-February. Several courses, including Gulf Shores Golf Club and GlenLakes, only show prices inside their booking windows, so spring 2027 rates weren't visible yet.
