Flights to Tucson land at Tucson International (TUS), about 17 minutes from downtown, with nonstops on six airlines from western and central US hubs. There is no nonstop from Canada. Many golfers, and most Canadian snowbirds, fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor instead and drive about two hours south on I-10. Which is better depends on fares, where you base, and how much driving you want.
This guide covers who flies to TUS, when Phoenix makes more sense, and how long it takes to reach each golf area from either airport.
Quick facts
- Tucson International (TUS): south side, 17 minutes and 9.3 miles to downtown (OSRM free-flow).
- Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX): 121 minutes and 110.5 miles to downtown Tucson via I-10 (OSRM free-flow; often longer).
- Canada: no nonstop to TUS found for 2026-27; PHX has nonstops from Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Vancouver and Toronto.
- Time zone: Mountain Standard Time all year, no daylight saving.
- You will want a car: courses run from SaddleBrooke in the north to Tubac in the south.
Flights to Tucson: who flies to TUS
The airline list below comes from the Tucson International Airport airlines table on Wikipedia, read on October 26, 2026. It is not an airline timetable, and seasonal start dates were not listed, so check before you book.
| Airline | Nonstops to TUS from |
|---|---|
| Alaska | Portland, Seattle; seasonal Orange County |
| American (and American Eagle) | Chicago-O'Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix, Los Angeles |
| Delta (and Delta Connection) | Atlanta, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City; seasonal Minneapolis/St. Paul and Seattle |
| Southwest | Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego; seasonal Chicago-Midway, Dallas Love, Houston Hobby |
| Sun Country | Seasonal Minneapolis/St. Paul |
| United (and United Express) | Chicago-O'Hare, Denver, Houston-Intercontinental, San Francisco |
For a short golf trip from the US, TUS is usually the easy choice. You land on the south side and can be on a tee within half an hour. The Midwest seasonal flights matter for snowbirds: Minneapolis on Delta and Sun Country, Chicago-Midway on Southwest.
Flights to Tucson from Canada
No nonstop flight from Canada to Tucson was listed, and searches found no WestJet or Air Canada Tucson route for 2026-27. That leaves two choices:
- Connect to TUS via Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver, Dallas, Phoenix or Las Vegas.
- Fly nonstop to Phoenix and drive. Route pages read on October 23, 2026 (for our Yuma research, not re-checked here) listed WestJet from Calgary daily, Edmonton six days a week and Saskatoon on Thursdays and Sundays; WestJet and Air Canada from Vancouver daily; and Air Canada and Porter from Toronto daily.
Many snowbirds take option two: it is often cheaper and avoids a connection. Our guide for Canadian snowbirds in Tucson covers stay rules and day counts, and the Yuma flying guide compares the same Phoenix routes for Yuma.
TUS vs PHX for a golf trip
| Tucson (TUS) | Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) | |
|---|---|---|
| Drive to downtown Tucson | 17 min, 9.3 mi | 121 min, 110.5 mi (often longer) |
| Canadian nonstops | None found | Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Toronto |
| Best for | Short trips, Green Valley, south side, central Tucson | Canadians, cheaper fares, Marana and Oro Valley bases |
| Watch out for | Fewer routes, seasonal service | Phoenix traffic and I-10 crashes or construction between Chandler and Picacho |
The Phoenix drive is shorter if you base north. Marana, Dove Mountain and Oro Valley are closer to PHX than downtown Tucson is, so a trip built around the Golf Club at Dove Mountain (Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain guests and members only) or Omni Tucson National loses less time to the drive. Our Phoenix to Tucson drive guide has the I-10 route and a golf stop on the way in.
From TUS to the golf
TUS sits about 7 miles south of downtown, which puts the south-side and central courses close and the northern ones farther away. These are drive times from the Hampton Inn Tucson-Airport, the airport-area hotel on our map:
| Course | Drive from the airport hotel |
|---|---|
| Randolph North | 15 min, 7.8 mi |
| El Rio | 19 min, 10.3 mi |
| Fred Enke | 19 min, 10.2 mi |
| Sewailo | 20 min, 9.7 mi |
The airport is also handy for Green Valley: on our routed times the airport Hampton is 33 to 42 minutes from the Green Valley courses via I-19, and 21 minutes from Starr Pass. Oro Valley, Dove Mountain and SaddleBrooke are an estimated 35-50 minute drive from TUS (not routed).
So a TUS arrival suits a first-afternoon round at Sewailo, the best-conditioned public course on the south side, or a city course like Randolph North. See the Sewailo course guide and the Randolph North course guide.
Flights to Tucson by type of trip
Which airport works best depends on who is travelling and for how long.
| Trip | Best airport | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Long weekend from the western US | TUS | Southwest nonstops from Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Diego; Alaska from Portland and Seattle |
| Midwest snowbird | TUS | Seasonal Minneapolis/St. Paul on Delta and Sun Country, seasonal Chicago-Midway on Southwest, year-round Chicago-O'Hare on American and United |
| Canadian snowbird | PHX, then drive | The only Canadian nonstops found in Arizona |
| Golf plus a spring training game | PHX | The Cactus League is entirely in metro Phoenix, and PHX is busier in March |
| Base in Green Valley or Tubac | TUS | South-side airport, 33 to 42 minutes from the Green Valley courses via I-19 (routed from the airport Hampton) |
Driving instead of flying
For golfers within a day's drive, driving is a real option, and it means your own clubs and car. Free-flow OSRM estimates to downtown Tucson:
- Las Vegas: 405.5 miles, about 478 minutes, via US-93 through Kingman and Wickenburg to Phoenix, then I-10.
- San Diego: 407.6 miles, about 431 minutes, east on I-8 via El Centro, Yuma and Gila Bend, then on to I-10.
- Calgary: about 2,665 km and 29 hours; most snowbirds take three days.
A Las Vegas or San Diego drive also opens a stop on the way. Our sister guides cover the San Diego to Yuma drive and Mesquite if you are coming from Las Vegas.
Drive times from downtown Tucson
Once you land, these are the free-flow drive times from downtown Tucson to each golf area (OSRM, October 2026). OSRM tends to run 10-20 percent long on interstate legs.
| Area | Drive from downtown |
|---|---|
| Oro Valley | 24 min, 12.6 mi |
| Green Valley | 34 min, 26.9 mi |
| SaddleBrooke | 45 min, 24.5 mi |
| Tubac | 55 min, 45.0 mi |

Time zone when you land
Arizona keeps Mountain Standard Time all year, with no daylight saving. From November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, Tucson is one hour ahead of California and Nevada; the rest of the year it shares their clock. Phoenix and Tucson are always on the same time, so driving between them involves no change. For Canadians: Vancouver is one hour behind Tucson in winter, and Alberta and Saskatchewan are one hour ahead all year.
