Where the two sit: Washington County, Utah and Mesquite down I-15
"St. George golf" really means a spread of towns across Washington County. The courses fall into three clusters:
- West side, toward Ivins and Snow Canyon: Black Desert in Ivins (13 minutes from downtown St. George), Entrada at Snow Canyon (12) and The Ledges (15).
- East side, in Washington: Green Spring (12 minutes) and Coral Canyon (17).
- Hurricane, toward Zion National Park: Sky Mountain (28 minutes), Sand Hollow (32) and Copper Rock (36).
The four City of St. George courses sit in the middle of all that, 7 to 12 minutes from downtown.
Mesquite is the other direction: southwest on I-15, through Arizona's short Virgin River Gorge, 50 to 57 minutes from downtown St. George to the Mesquite courses on our routing estimates. Once you're there, every Mesquite course is within about 15 minutes of the casino hotels. So a St. George base spreads your golf across a county, while a Mesquite base keeps it in one small town.
St. George vs Mesquite golf: the courses
St. George wins on depth. It has four Golf Digest-ranked courses in Utah. Black Desert is a Tom Weiskopf design and PGA TOUR venue (75.4 / 139 from the tips). Sand Hollow Championship has the cliff-edge back nine. Copper Rock has the area's highest men's Course Rating, 75.8. The fourth is the private Entrada at Snow Canyon, which visitors can play only by staying at The Inn at Entrada. Below that tier come value courses like Coral Canyon, Green Spring and Sky Mountain, plus four city courses. The Black Desert course guide and Sand Hollow course guide have the details.
Mesquite wins on concentration. Wolf Creek is the bucket-list round, with a 147 slope from the tips (155 on the back nine) and ridge-top tees; see the Wolf Creek course guide. Conestoga is ranked in Nevada. The two Oasis courses, Falcon Ridge and CasaBlanca fill out a week without much repetition.
If you can only play one course in the region, the ranked choices are in St. George. If you want five different 18s with almost no driving, Mesquite does that better. The full rundowns are in our guides to the best golf courses in St. George and Mesquite Nevada golf courses.
Green fees in St. George and Mesquite
On price, the St. George vs Mesquite golf answer depends on what you play. The cheapest golf is in St. George. The city's St. George Golf Club and Southgate cost $44 walking ($64 with cart) from October to May, and $30 walking in summer. Nothing in Mesquite matches that for a regular 18. Mesquite's lowest prices are Coyote Willows ($50 for nine) and dynamic twilight and summer times, such as Falcon Ridge at $50 from 1 pm in early June 2027.
In the middle of the market, the two are closer than you'd expect:
| Mid-range round | Fees seen (Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Coral Canyon (Washington, UT) | about $115–$135 for 18, twilight about $75–$85 |
| Green Spring (Washington, UT) | $50–$90 |
| Oasis Palmer (Mesquite) | $105–$210 |
| CasaBlanca (Mesquite) | $90–$176 |
| Falcon Ridge (Mesquite) | $50–$205 |
At the top end, both towns charge about the same: Black Desert is $325 to $450 for non-guests, and Wolf Creek $200 to $420. Summer flips the value. Conestoga drops to $80 to $120 from June 22 to August 30, the cheapest way onto a ranked Mesquite course. For every Utah course's rates in one place, see St. George green fees.
A local edge: Washington County, Utah residents qualify for the Oasis Golf Club's resident rate in Mesquite. St. George snowbirds with a local address should bring ID.
Weather: winter golf in St. George vs Mesquite
Mesquite sits lower and runs warmer all year. Its courses are at about 1,550 to 1,860 feet, while St. George's run from about 2,500 to 3,800 feet.
| Month | St. George high | Mesquite-area high |
|---|---|---|
| January | 54.0°F | 61.7°F |
| February | 59.3°F | 66.1°F |
| March | 67.8°F | 74.5°F |
| July | 101.9°F | 109.0°F |
| December | 53.0°F | 60.2°F |
From December to February those extra degrees matter. Both towns get frosty mornings and frost delays, but Mesquite afternoons are in the 60s. In summer, both are dawn-only, and St. George is the slightly less punishing choice. Our St. George winter golf guide covers the cold months in detail.
Where you sleep
This is Mesquite's strongest card. Most rooms are in casino resorts, and in October 2026 snapshots they were cheap:
- CasaBlanca Resort: about $60 to $115 a night, plus a resort fee, next to its own course
- Virgin River Casino & Lodge: about $40 to $130
- Eureka Casino Resort: Kayak averages about $111 to $195, with preferred access to Wolf Creek
St. George is mostly chain hotels and resort condos. February averages were about $200 at the Hilton Garden Inn and about $250 at Hyatt Place. The Best Western Plus Settlers Point in Washington was seen at $90 to $130. At the top, the Black Desert Resort hotel in Ivins starts around $399 before its resort fee. For groups of 4 to 8, St. George has more multi-bedroom options: Sand Hollow Resort condos in Hurricane, The Inn at Entrada casitas and Ledges rental homes.
If you don't want a casino, Mesquite's Hampton Inn & Suites across from Falcon Ridge has no gaming floor. Our where to stay for golf in St. George guide compares every base, Mesquite included.
Getting there
Las Vegas is usually the better airport, with the most flights and the cheapest fares and rental cars. Mesquite is about 1 hour 10 minutes up I-15, and St. George about 2 hours. One example from our own check: a Calgary trip found a LAS round trip for CA$465 against CA$1,037 or more into St. George (SGU) for a late-November 2026 trip (checked October 9, 2026). If you fly SGU, you're 15 minutes from town, but fares are usually higher and there are fewer rental cars.
Remember the clock. Driving north to St. George you lose an hour. Driving back to Vegas you gain it, which helps for an evening flight after a morning round.
The calendar
- September: Mesquite's overseed closures run longer. In 2026 Wolf Creek closed August 30 to October 2 and Conestoga for all of September. St. George's city courses close for about two weeks each, and Coral Canyon and Black Desert don't overseed (Black Desert closed September 14 to October 6, 2026 for its PGA TOUR event instead).
- Early October: St. George's busiest stretch, with the PGA TOUR event, the St. George Marathon and the Huntsman World Senior Games (October 5 to 17, 2026). Hotels are at a premium.
- Early November: the Nevada Open at CasaBlanca (November 3 to 5, 2026) blocks Mesquite tee sheets for those days.
Pick St. George if…

- You're coming from December to February and want the warmer afternoons.

- Wolf Creek is the round you're making the trip for.
- You're flying into Las Vegas and want to golf on arrival day.
