Red-rock poster: Scottsdale golf in October and November: what is open, what it costs and when to go

Scottsdale golf in October and November splits in two: through most of October courses close in turn for fall overseed, and from late October they reopen with fresh rye, often cart path only for a few weeks. November is the reward, with mid-70s weather and shoulder rates below the January to April peak, before the snowbirds and holidays fill tee sheets.

This guide gives the 2026 reopening dates, the cart-path weeks, the shoulder fees we saw, and how to time a fall trip. For every closure date course by course, see Phoenix golf overseed. Fees were seen in October and November 2026 and change.

Quick facts

  • October weather: 89.2F high, 65.6F low, about 17 days over 90F.

Grayhawk Talon and Gold Canyon Sidewinder were back early, on October 12 and October 5, so they carried much of the October play while the rest of Scottsdale golf in October and November waited on the rye. TPC Scottsdale Stadium did not publish 2026 dates but was open in November.

October: play the open half

Highs are still in the high 80s and the first half of the month can feel like late summer. The trick is to follow each club's stagger. Grayhawk Talon reopened October 12, the day Raptor closed; Gold Canyon Sidewinder, which overseeds only greens and tees, reopened October 5 with no cart rule. Cholla and Cattail were back on October 23. By the last week of October most of the big names are open again, many with cart restrictions. Sunset falls from about 6:34pm in mid-September to 5:54pm in mid-October.

November: the shoulder sweet spot

November averages 76.5F, the rye is new and green, and rates have not yet hit peak, which makes the back half of Scottsdale golf in October and November the better bet. Snowbirds arrive through the month, so tee sheets fill faster late in November than early. Sunset is about 5:25pm in mid-November, so book morning or midday rounds if you want 18 in daylight. The only real catch is cart-path-only play at courses that reopened late; if walking to the ball every shot bothers your group, check before booking.

An unofficial tracker puts Troon North 20 to 30% below peak in October and November. Our Grayhawk Raptor course guide, Cholla course guide and Aguila course guide have more.

What to expect on the course

Scottsdale golf in October and November changes week by week, so pack and plan for both halves:

  • Heat early, layers late. October still averages about 17 days over 90F; November has just 1.4, with dawns near 54F at Sky Harbor and cooler on the outlying desert courses.
  • Walking more than usual. Cart-path-only rules after overseed mean longer walks to the ball, which adds time to the round.
  • Practice areas reopen in stages. Talking Stick's range and putting green were closed from September 21, and the range reopened November 4, 2026, after the O'odham course was already back.
  • Young greens. Freshly reopened courses can have temporary or slow greens for a week or two; Encanto's record warns of young rye in its first weeks.
  • Shorter days. Sunset moves from about 5:54pm in mid-October to 5:25pm in mid-November, and Arizona Grand lists hours of sunrise to 4:30pm.

Timing a fall trip

  • Before October 20: summer weather, many closures. Only go if you build the trip around Talon, Troon North Pinnacle, Sidewinder and other reopened courses.
  • October 20 to November 5: most courses back, many cart path only. Good value if you check each course.
  • November 6 to 24: the pick of the fall. Nearly everything open, mid-70s, shoulder rates.
  • Thanksgiving week (November 26): busy resort week; Arcis Players' Card bonus rounds are blacked out November 25-29.
  • Late November into December: shoulder rates continue to the holidays. See Scottsdale golf in winter.

Snowbirds arriving in the fall

Arizona is one hour ahead of Pacific time from November 1, 2026, worth remembering when you book tee times from home. The RV resorts sell fall rates: Robert's Sunrise RV Resort in Apache Junction listed October to December 2026 at $1,227 a month standard, and Robert's December 2026 specials ran $699 to $999 a month across its resorts. Cal-Am cards print a September 1 to January 1 fall special without saying whether it is monthly or for the whole period, so ask. See Mesa RV resorts and, for the full calendar, the best time to golf in Scottsdale and Scottsdale golf rates.

The other desert towns follow a similar fall pattern; see Palm Springs golf in the fall and Tucson golf in November.

Plan it on the map

Open the Scottsdale golf map to see each course's 2026 overseed and cart-path dates before you book Scottsdale golf in October and November. The $30 plan only books courses that are open on your dates, and for a snowbird winter it can start the weekly rotation the week you arrive.

Which Scottsdale courses are closed in early November?

In 2026, Arizona Grand was closed until November 13 and Gold Canyon's Dinosaur Mountain until November 5, and Talking Stick's Piipaash reopened November 6. Most other courses in our files had reopened by November 2.

What does cart path only mean for a November trip?

Carts stay on the paths to protect the new rye, so you walk more to each shot. In 2026 Talking Stick's Piipaash was cart path only November 6-26 and We-Ko-Pa's Cholla through November 24, and Gold Canyon warned of up to six weeks at Dinosaur Mountain.
