Palm Springs golf in October and November: reopening dates and shoulder rates

Palm Springs golf in October and November is a tale of two months. October is overseed season: most courses close for a few weeks to plant rye, so you play whichever course at each facility is open. November is one of the best golf months of the year, with high-70s afternoons, fresh green turf and rates below the winter peak.

This guide lists what was open in October 2026, the reopening date of each course we found, cart-path-only windows, November rates seen and the weekends that fill hotels. Dates come from course sites and schedules read on November 2, 2026; where a source did not give the year, we say so. Rates change, so treat them as a guide.

Why October is different

Coachella Valley courses grow bermudagrass, which goes dormant and tan in the cool months, so almost every resort and daily-fee course overseeds with ryegrass each fall. Closures run from about two weeks to a month or more. One golf-travel guide estimates about two-thirds of valley courses close at some point in October (an undated estimate).

The good news for Palm Springs golf in October and November is that two-course facilities stagger their closures: Desert Willow, Tahquitz Creek, Terra Lago, Desert Springs, Mountain Vista and the PGA West resort courses each closed their courses at different times, so at least one was usually open. Reduced overseed rates are common on the courses that stay open, and October hotel rates are low: STR data quoted by Visit Greater Palm Springs put October 2025 at 59.4% occupancy and a $202.14 average daily rate.

Palm Springs golf in October and November: 2026 reopening dates

Tahquitz Creek dates come from a 2026 overseed schedule by Arizona Golf Vacations and are approximate. A few more from alerts that did not state the year: Heritage Palms closed October 1 to November 6, reopening November 7, and the JW Marriott Desert Springs Palm course closed October 26 to November 22. Shadow Hills South was due back November 6, and Mission Hills Gary Player said only that it would open "in November". Indian Wells Golf Resort posted its 2026 dates as an image we could not read; call 760-346-4653.

October vs November weather

October is still a warm month, in the low 90s, so early tee times play best, and courses just back from overseed may be on temporary greens. November drops into the high 70s with fresh rye. East-valley dawns cool fast in November: Thermal's normal low is 44.7F against 53.4F at Palm Springs airport, so the first tee times at La Quinta and PGA West are chilly. Normals are NOAA 1991-2020. Courses that stay open in October

• Desert Willow Mountain View from October 23, and it is the only Desert Willow course open from November 9 to December 25, so book early. See the Mountain View course guide.

• PGA West Greg Norman is open until November 9, then closes for a late overseed, so it is the PGA West course for October.
• Terra Lago South was taking bookings on October 18, 2026 at about $72 to $102.49 while the North was closed. See the Terra Lago South course guide.
• JW Marriott Desert Springs Valley stays open while the Palm course overseeds, and had tee times on November 3.

Two choices outside the valley are worth knowing. Oak Valley in Beaumont closes in September, not October, and reopened September 28, 2026; GolfNow deals ran as low as $32.99 on a September afternoon and $64.99 on an October Sunday. November shoulder rates

Weekends and dates to watch

• The Dinah moved to fall and ran September 30 to October 4, 2026 at two downtown Palm Springs hotels; little effect on golf.
• Greater Palm Springs Pride, November 6-8, 2026: one of the biggest weekends in Palm Springs. Downtown hotels fill and Palm Canyon Drive closes for the Sunday parade. Mid- and east-valley golf is barely affected.
• Thanksgiving, November 26, 2026: family visitors and Southern California drive-in traffic land on top of arriving snowbirds, and holiday weeks are often priced like peak.
• Snowbird arrivals: through November, so tee sheets fill steadily as the month goes on.

How to plan Palm Springs golf in October and November

1. Check each course's dates, not the month. The same week can have one course closed and its sister open.
2. Pick facilities with a course open. Desert Willow, Tahquitz Creek and Terra Lago are the safest bets in October.
3. Expect cart path only. Courses back from overseed usually keep carts on paths for two to three weeks, so rounds run slower.
4. Go late in November for the full lineup. By late November most courses are back; Firecliff and the Norman are the exceptions into December.
