Courses west to east: Mesquite vs St. George Golf: Which Town Should Host Your Trip?

Mesquite vs St. George golf comes down to this: Mesquite packs seven 18-hole courses within about 11 minutes of downtown, with cheap casino rooms and warmer winters, while St. George has more courses, cheaper city golf and the top-ranked resort courses. They are only 40 to 45 minutes apart on I-15, so one trip can include both.

This is the comparison from the Mesquite side. The St. George site has its own take in St. George vs Mesquite golf. Mesquite prices were seen October 2026; St. George figures come from the St. George atlas, sampled October 2026. Most 2027 peak prices were not posted.

The courses: compact vs spread out

Mesquite's seven 18-hole courses are all within about 11 minutes of downtown: Wolf Creek 7 minutes, Conestoga 11, Falcon Ridge 8, CasaBlanca 5, Palms 7, and the two Oasis courses, Palmer and Canyons, 5. That makes 36-hole days and late arrivals easy. Palms is across the line in Littlefield, Arizona.

The St. George side is bigger and more varied: city-run courses in St. George itself, the Washington courses, Sand Hollow and Copper Rock out in Hurricane, and Black Desert in Ivins, which hosted the PGA TOUR's Bank of Utah Championship in 2026. The St. George golf map shows how they spread out.

Mesquite's character is desert canyon golf with big elevation changes. Wolf Creek has ridge-top tees, drops of nearly 100 feet and a 147 slope from 6,785 yards; Coyote Springs plays 7,471 yards at 76.8/149 from the tips. The Wolf Creek course guide has the full tee chart. For slopes across town, see the hardest golf courses in Mesquite.

Green fees: who is cheaper?

On green fees, the Mesquite vs St. George golf question is easy at the low end: St. George wins clearly. Its city courses use two seasons: from October to May, St. George Golf Club and Southgate charged $64 for 18 with cart and Sunbrook $88, with a Washington County loyalty card cutting that further for locals. Nothing in Mesquite matches that for a morning 18; the 9-hole Coyote Willows at $50 for nine (seen October 2026) is one of the cheapest rounds in town.

In the middle, Mesquite holds up well. Fall 2026 mornings were $134 at Palms, $160 at CasaBlanca, $185 to $203.04 at Falcon Ridge and $190 at Oasis, against St. George's SunRiver at $105 to $115 and Coral Canyon at about $135.

At the top, both towns are expensive. Wolf Creek was $360 weekdays and $390 weekends in late October 2026, and $390 to $420 at its 2026 spring peak. Black Desert charges $450 for non-guests in peak season (with cart, forecaddie and food included), and Sand Hollow's dynamic pricing ran $305 to $366 on March and April 2027 weekday mornings.

Summer flips the gap a little: Conestoga drops to $80 to $120 from Jun 22 to Aug 30, 2026, a Golf Digest-ranked course at summer prices (see the Conestoga course guide). See cheap golf in Mesquite for more.

Weather: Mesquite runs warmer

Mesquite uses the Beaver Dam, Arizona station as its proxy (NOAA 1991-2020 normals); St. George has its own station.

April82.3F / 48.0F75.0F / 45.7F
July109.0F / 73.8F101.9F / 71.7F

From November to February, Mesquite's normal afternoon highs run about seven to eight degrees warmer, which is a big part of the Mesquite vs St. George golf decision in winter. Summer flips it: St. George's July normal high is 101.9F against Mesquite's 109F.

Hotels: casino rooms vs chain hotels

Mesquite's casino resorts are the value play. On the official booking engines (seen October 2026), Virgin River Casino & Lodge showed $46.80 Sunday to Thursday for December 2026 and January 2027 with no resort fee, and CasaBlanca Resort $102.09 Sunday to Thursday in December, which appears to include its $12.99 resort fee. The smoke-free Hampton Inn & Suites was $105 for Tue Nov 10, 2026. Weekends cost more: Virgin River ran $66.60 to $111.60 on December and January Fridays and Saturdays, and CasaBlanca $125.49 to $134.49 on December weekends.

The St. George atlas mostly has Kayak 12-month averages rather than quotes, so treat them as a rough guide: Hilton Garden Inn about $202 in February and $75 in December, Hyatt Place about $259 and $118, Holiday Inn Convention Center about $199 and $80. Black Desert Resort runs about $400 to $450 a night before its 15% resort fee.

Flights and getting there

Mesquite is about 90 miles from Las Vegas: 90.8 miles and 97 minutes free-flow from the Harry Reid Rent-A-Car Center, and the Salt Lake Express shuttle takes 1 hr 25 min for $33 to $41. St. George is another 40 to 45 minutes up I-15. St. George Regional (SGU) has regional jets from Salt Lake City, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Dallas/Fort Worth, and is 42.2 miles and about 54 minutes from Mesquite. Coming from Utah? Overseed and closures

Both towns overseed in September, on slightly different schedules.

  • Mesquite: the 18-hole courses close in turn, from Wolf Creek (Aug 30 to Oct 2, 2026) to Oasis Palmer (Sep 14 to Oct 6, 2026). On the stored dates, roughly Sep 14 to 26 had no 18-hole course open in Mesquite. Coyote Springs does not overseed.
  • St. George: the city courses closed in turn between Sept 8 and Oct 6, 2026, and Black Desert closed Sep 14 to Oct 6 for the PGA TOUR event. Coral Canyon does not overseed.

If you are going in September, the Mesquite vs St. George golf choice tilts to St. George, which has more options. Details in Mesquite golf overseed in September.

Pick Mesquite if...

  • You want short drives between rounds and easy 36-hole days.
  • You are flying into Las Vegas and want to be on the course the same afternoon.
  • It is December to February and you want the warmer afternoons.
  • Your group likes a casino resort, a steakhouse and cheap midweek rooms.

Pick St. George if...

  • You want the cheapest 18 holes in the region, or more courses for a long trip.
  • You want to play Black Desert or Sand Hollow.
  • It is summer or September.

Or do both

The towns are 40 to 45 minutes apart, so a split stay is easy. Watch the one-hour clock change when you book tee times in both; our Mesquite St. George time difference guide shows how. For a ready plan, see the Mesquite and St. George golf itinerary. St. George locals: Oasis and Coyote Springs both give Washington County residents their resident rates, so a Mesquite round can cost less than the rack rate.
