South Padre Island Golf Club, Laguna Vista: rates, wind and booking

South Padre Island Golf Club is in Laguna Vista, on the mainland across the bay from the island. It is a par-72, 6,931-yard membership club that sells public tee times: $69 on weekdays and $79 on weekends before 2 PM with a cart, and twilight from $50 (seen October 2026). Expect wind, and book mornings.

It is the only course near South Padre Island, so it is the default round for any island trip, from a spring beach week to a winter in a condo. It costs more than the city courses in Harlingen and Brownsville, and the wind off the Laguna Madre is part of every round. Here is what the club publishes, what it does not, and how to get the best of it.

South Padre Island Golf Club rates

The published card on the club's rate page, read October 26, 2026, has no dates. The club says it uses variable and seasonal rates, so treat this as a guide and confirm for your week.

A cart is included in every published rate. Memberships are offered, and WinterTexanInfo mentions several membership and lesson packages, but no prices are published. If you are spending a winter on the island, ask the pro shop what a season membership costs before you buy daily rounds. Winter-season pricing and Winter Texan rates were not published as of October 2026.

Where the value is

Twilight is the value play. A weekday twilight round at $50 is $19 under the morning weekday rate. The trade-off is wind: the afternoon sea breeze usually builds. GolfNow Hot Deals undercut rack too, with afternoon slots near $42 in October 2026, but they are prepaid. Playing in the wind at Laguna Vista

The course sits on the bay side of the mainland at Laguna Vista, facing the Laguna Madre, and it is exposed to coastal wind. There are no wind normals for the island or Laguna Vista in our research, but the Brownsville airport station nearby gives a fair picture:

Those are all-day averages, and the coast is likely breezier than the Brownsville station (not measured). In practice:

• Book the morning. The afternoon sea breeze off the Laguna Madre usually builds.
• Club up into the wind and keep the ball low when it is gusting.
• November to January are the calmer winter months; March and April are the windiest.

Booking South Padre Island Golf Club in Laguna Vista

Book on the club's site (spigolf.com/book-a-tee-time) or on GolfNow. The booking window is not published. GolfNow showed bookable times as of October 26, 2026, with the next one at 7:03 AM that morning, so the sheet was live.

Two rules to know:

1. No-shows pay in full. The club charges a no-show fee for the full reservation.
2. Hot Deals are prepaid. GolfNow Hot Deals are refundable only with 24 or more hours' notice.

Pets are not allowed on the course apart from service animals. Peak season across the Valley runs roughly November to March, and morning times are hardest to get from January to mid-March. Our Rio Grande Valley tee times guide covers booking windows at the other courses.

Spring break

South Padre spring break fills the coast in March, with the busiest "Texas Week" usually mid-March. Island lodging rates jump and the Queen Isabella Causeway gets very busy. Where to stay for South Padre Island Golf Club

Island hotels are about 19-20 minutes from the course on our routed estimates. Prices below are Kayak samples seen October 2026, not quotes.

Isla Grand is dated but cheap, with free parking and 65 two-bedroom condos that sleep up to six. Margaritaville, the former Pearl South Padre, has 200 rooms plus 50 beachfront condos. The monthly example is a two-bedroom beachfront unit at $3,250 a month for January and February 2027 and $4,000 for March; other two-bedroom listings showed $2,400 to $2,600 a month for winter 2026. Pairing it with other rounds

The island has one course nearby, so a longer stay means driving. Rancho Viejo's two 18s are about 27 minutes from the club, and about 40 minutes from Margaritaville. Off the course, Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge is on the Laguna Madre in the Laguna Vista area, and the 1852 Port Isabel Lighthouse, with views over the Laguna Madre and the causeway, is the only Texas coast lighthouse open for climbing. Weather risk

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and September is the wettest month on this side of the Valley, at about 5.7 inches in Brownsville. A winter or spring round avoids the worst of it. See hurricane season and South Texas golf.

Is South Padre Island Golf Club in Laguna Vista worth the drive?

From downtown McAllen the course is about 78 minutes and 62.5 miles each way on our routed estimate, so it is a day trip rather than a regular round for a west-side Winter Texan. It is also dearer than the city courses: in October 2026 Tierra del Sol in Pharr listed $41 for 18 with a cart, against $69 to $79 here. If you are based in McAllen or Mission, play it once as part of a beach day, ideally on a weekday twilight rate. If you are based on the island or in Port Isabel, it is the obvious home course and worth asking about a membership.

What is not published

Our research could not find tee ratings or slopes, the designer, the booking window, winter-season or Winter Texan pricing, or any overseed or aeration dates. Ask the pro shop about all of these if they matter to your plans, and expect the seasonal rates to move.
