Contour art: Snowbird Golf Gulf Shores Guide: How to Set Up a Month or More of Winter Golf

Snowbird golf, Gulf Shores style, works best as a stay of a month or more from December to March, built around one inland "home" course and a winter card. GlenLakes sells 30-day to 210-day snowbird memberships with cart, Craft Farms sells a $70-a-round Six-Pack, and condo companies offer monthly winter rates. Highs run about 61 to 64°F.

This guide is about the long stay: what a month of golf costs, how to set up a weekly routine, where to base, and the dates to plan around. For forward tees and senior deals, see our senior golf in Gulf Shores guide. Prices were seen in October 2026 and change, so confirm before you pay.

Quick facts

  • Snowbird season: roughly December to February; the longest stays are January and February.
  • Winter weather (NOAA normals, coast): highs 61-64°F, lows 42-45°F, rain on about 8-9 days a month.
  • Shortest day: about 10 hours 12 minutes around Dec 21; sunset near 4:52 PM in mid-December (calculated).
  • Longest-stay golf deal: GlenLakes snowbird memberships, 30 to 210 days, cart included.
  • Order-by date: Craft Farms Six-Pack orders close Nov 15, 2026.
  • Turf: most bermuda goes dormant, tan but playable, from about December to March.

Snowbird golf Gulf Shores budget: what does a month cost?

The answer depends on how many rounds you play. Here's the math for a month, using prices seen in October 2026. Per-round figures are before tax unless noted.

Option Upfront Per round at 12 rounds Per round at 20 rounds Notes
GlenLakes 30-day snowbird membership (single, cart)$599 + 10% tax = $658.90about $55about $33Family 30-day is $761 + tax
GlenLakes snowbird 6-pack$350 + tax per cardabout $58about $58Also $210 for six 9-hole rounds
Craft Farms Six-Pack (to Feb 15, 2027)$420 + tax per cardabout $70about $70Either Craft Farms course; 3% card fee
Gulf Shores Golf Club daily, with $199 Shore Club$199 a year$71.25, if the 25% applies to the $95 winter morning rate$71.2525% off rack, twilight an hour early
GlenLakes daily rate cardnone$86 morning / $66 from 2 PMsame2026 rate card, with cart

The GlenLakes membership wins once you play more than about 11 times a month; below that, the 6-pack's $58 a round is cheaper. Craft Farms costs more per round but gives you two Arnold Palmer courses (see the Cotton Creek course page), a 14-day booking window for card holders and a limit of two rounds per card per day. The card sold out last year, and orders close Nov 15, 2026.

GlenLakes also sells memberships between 30 and 210 days. We captured only the end points ($599 single for 30 days, $3,585 for 210 days), so ask the club for the 60- and 90-day prices. The GlenLakes course page has its tees and rate history.

Set up a weekly snowbird golf routine

Snowbird golf in Gulf Shores works best with a home course and a couple of regular side trips. A sample week from a Foley or Craft Farms base:

Day Round Why
MondayGlenLakes (membership)Home course, cart included
TuesdayCraft Farms Cotton Creek or Cypress Bend (Six-Pack)Two Palmer 18s on one card
WednesdayRange and short game$25 unlimited-ball range pass at Gulf Shores Golf Club
ThursdayGulf Shores Golf Club, from 12:30 PM$79 winter twilight (Dec 5, 2026 sheet)
FridayGlenLakes Lakes nine, lateA cheap 9-hole loop ($25-$43 online)
WeekendPeninsula or a day offDynamic winter rates from $89, Nov 15-Mar 31

Booking rhythm matters when you play three or four times a week. GlenLakes opens its online sheet 21 days ahead at midnight, but online times are prepaid and non-refundable, so book by phone if your week might change. Gulf Shores Golf Club opens 46 days out; its course page lists the winter twilight times. Craft Farms Six-Pack holders book 14 days ahead. Peninsula's winter pricing is dynamic, and the club says earlier bookings get lower rates.

If you're up the Eastern Shore, TimberCreek in Daphne sells a $99 Creek Card for 2027 with a free first round, 30 to 50% off green fees and a 14-day window. Fairhope's city course, Quail Creek, has busy senior, ladies and men's leagues; call before you drive over.

Where to base for snowbird golf: Gulf Shores, Foley or Orange Beach

For snowbird golf, Gulf Shores itself isn't always the best base. Pick it by the courses you'll play most. Drive times below are free-flow estimates and don't include traffic:

Base Closest golf (drive minutes) Good for
Courtyard at Craft FarmsCraft Farms 5, Gulf Shores GC 6, GlenLakes 15, Peninsula 15A Six-Pack or GlenLakes winter; "Save on 5+ Nights" offer
Hampton Inn FoleyGlenLakes 11, Craft Farms 12, Gulf Shores GC 13GlenLakes members; free breakfast and parking
Gulf Shores PlantationKiva Dunes 2, Peninsula 13, Gulf Shores GC 20Gulf-front condos with kitchens and often washer-dryers
Caribe Resort, Orange BeachLost Key 17, Perdido Bay 19, Gulf Shores GC 22Monthly snowbird rates Nov-Feb on unit listings
Lost Key condo rentalsLost Key 0, Perdido Bay 9Living on a course; some units transfer a membership (unverified)

Inland bases put you closest to the cheapest winter golf. GlenLakes and Craft Farms are where the snowbird cards are, and both sit inland, where there's less wind than at the beach courses.

Monthly condos and long-stay lodging

Area condo companies offer discounted monthly winter rates, and long-stay retirees fill some condos, while overall hotel prices are the lowest of the year outside Mardi Gras and holiday weeks. What we found:

  • Caribe Resort unit listings advertise low monthly snowbird rates from November to February and a seventh night free on stays of seven nights or more (code 7THNIGHTFREE). Rules such as minimum age and parking passes vary by unit manager.
  • Gulf Shores Plantation has hundreds of individually owned units, many with kitchens and washer-dryers. There's no central front desk, so terms depend on the manager.
  • Lost Key Golf & Beach Club rentals are 2- and 3-bedroom condos on the course. One listing says some units transfer a family membership for about $35 plus about $20 a round for a cart. That's unverified, so ask the manager.
  • Kiva Dunes rentals give direct-booking renters a golf discount and preferred tee times outside peak season, but the resort's Beach Club is closed December to February.

Read the cancellation terms on any long condo booking. Turquoise Place in Orange Beach and The Beach Club on Fort Morgan Road don't refund for illness or hurricane evacuation inside their cancellation windows. Our Orange Beach golf condos guide compares them.

Temperatures are NOAA 1991-2020 normals for the nearest coastal station. The Craft Farms Six-Pack runs to Feb 15, 2027, and the Extended card to Mar 31 (Sunday to Thursday only in March). RTJ winter specials run Nov 16 to Mar 7, with Lakewood at $180 a day and Magnolia Grove from $85 a day on two-day-plus packages.

January is the coolest month, with about 7.1 mph average wind at the Gulf Shores airport. Afternoons are the best golf, which suits winter twilight rates. On Mardi Gras afternoon, Orange Beach's parade closes Perdido Beach Boulevard. For a closer look at the coldest month, see golf in Gulf Shores in January.

What winter courses look like

For snowbird golf, Gulf Shores fairways are often tan. Most courses here are bermuda, and many let it go dormant from about December to March rather than overseed it; it's still playable. Peninsula says its turf stays green all winter and that its sand base drains fast with no cart-path-only days, which makes it a good weekend splurge for a long stay. More in are Gulf Shores golf courses overseeded in winter.

The Eastern Shore runs colder at night, with January lows about 37°F in Fairhope, so frost delays are possible at Quail Creek, Rock Creek and Lakewood. Book later starts up there. For the full season picture, see golf in Gulf Shores in winter.

Practice, lessons and walking over a long stay

  • Range: Gulf Shores Golf Club sells a $25 range-only pass with unlimited balls. The Orange Beach Golf Center range is lighted until 9 PM, at $5 a bucket, and its three-month non-resident membership is $250 with walking free on the par-3 nine.
  • Lessons: Craft Farms has PGA/LPGA instruction through the Jenkins Golf Academy, and Gulf Shores Golf Club works with Schuessler Golf Academy.
  • Walking: if you want to walk for exercise, policies vary a lot. See walking golf in Gulf Shores for course by course.
  • Leagues: Lost Key runs Ladies 9 & Wine and Couples 9 & Dine leagues.

Soldiers Creek in Elberta puts its 2026-27 Winter Value Packs on sale Nov 15, 2026, with prices due Oct 31. Recent reviews on conditions there are poor, so read the latest before buying a pack. For the other inland options, see Foley golf courses.
