Courses drawn to one scale: Senior Golf in Gulf Shores: A Snowbird's Guide to Deals, Tees and Long Stays

Senior golf in Gulf Shores is built around winter. Snowbirds who stay a month or more save most with multi-round cards: Craft Farms' Six-Pack works out to about $70 a round on two Arnold Palmer courses, and GlenLakes' snowbird 6-pack to about $58. Highs of 61 to 64°F in December and January, forward tees under 5,500 yards and condos at monthly winter rates make Gulf Shores golf a good fit from December to March.

Here's what we found on deals, tees, walking and long stays, with prices seen in October 2026. Rates change, so check before you commit.

Senior golf in Gulf Shores: winter deals for snowbirds

We didn't find a published senior day rate at the beach courses. The Robert Trent Jones Trail says outright it has no senior rate. Instead, the savings come from winter cards and memberships:

Two notes on these. The Craft Farms Six-Pack sold out last year, so don't leave it until November. And in March the Extended card is good Sunday to Thursday only. Peninsula discontinued its own Six-Pack cards for 2026-27.

Day rates are cheap in winter too. Gulf Shores Golf Club charged $95 in the morning and $79 from 12:30 PM on Dec 5, 2026. Its $199-a-year Shore Club membership gives 25% off rack rates every day, plus twilight one hour early. Kiva Dunes was $130.84 before about 1 PM in December and January, $107.48 after.

If you own a home in Baldwin County, ask about local rates. Craft Farms has a phone-only local rate for residents with ID, and Perdido Bay over the Florida line charges $70 to Baldwin County residents with proof of address. Our cheap golf in Gulf Shores guide lists every discount.

Forward tees for senior golf in Gulf Shores

Most courses here have a set of tees well under 5,500 yards. These are the shortest rated men's tees at each, from the published ratings (rating/slope):

Course Forward tee Yards Rating / slope

Lakewood AzaleaRed4,54862.5 / 105
Quail CreekRed4,67562.9 / 102

Lost Key is the interesting one. It's the toughest course on the beach side from the back (slope 143), but its Orange tees are only 4,071 yards. Women's ratings exist for most of these tees too. Lost Key's Orange is rated 64.6/113 for women, and GlenLakes' 4,255-yard Purple tee is rated 64.5/98 for women.

Wind matters as much as yardage. Kiva Dunes' holes run east-west across the Gulf breeze, so pick a tee one set shorter on a windy day. Inland courses like Craft Farms and GlenLakes get less wind.

Walking, carts and pace

Carts are included in the green fee at most Gulf Shores golf courses, and a few rule walking out:

  • Walking allowed: Orange Beach Golf Center (pull carts $3), Quail Creek (except during league play, tournaments and outings), and Magnolia Grove, where pull carts are allowed but not rented.
  • Cart required: Gulf Shores Golf Club and the Lakewood courses at the Grand Hotel.
  • Not published: most others. Kiva Dunes' tourism listing says walking is allowed, but no walking rate is published. Call ahead.

On pace, Gulf Shores Golf Club says it targets four hours and uses rangers, and Quail Creek's city rules ask for 18 holes in a maximum of four hours.

For a short-game day, the Magnolia Grove Short Course in Mobile is 18 full-length par 3s (3,140 yards from the back, 1,829 from the front) and walkable. Orange Beach Golf Center's par-3 nine is $15 to walk.

Leagues and senior golf near Gulf Shores on the Eastern Shore

Fairhope's Quail Creek is busy with senior, ladies and men's league play and charity scrambles, so call before you drive over. Its annual passes (from a 2023-24 city sheet) included a Gold pass for seniors 60 and over at $1,100 inside the city and $1,250 outside. That sheet is older, so ask for current prices.

Senior championship golf comes to the area too. Lakewood Dogwood hosted the 2021 USGA Senior Women's Amateur, and the club has hosted it twice before (1974 and 1986). Steelwood, a private club in Loxley, hosted the Alabama State Senior and Super-Senior Four-Ball in October 2025.

Winter weather for snowbird golf

NOAA normals for the coast put December highs at about 64°F, January at 61°F and February at 64°F, with lows of 42 to 45°F. It rains on about 8 to 9 days a month. Afternoons are the best golf, which suits the cheaper twilight rates.

The Eastern Shore is colder at night. Fairhope's January low is about 37°F, so frost delays are possible at Lakewood and the Fairhope courses. Book later starts there.

Expect tan fairways at many courses. Most are bermuda, and many let it go dormant from about December to March rather than overseeding. It's playable, just not green. Peninsula says its turf stays green all winter and drains fast. See golf in Gulf Shores in winter for more.

Where snowbirds stay

Snowbird season runs roughly December through February, and area condo companies offer discounted monthly winter rates. A few options from our research:

  • Caribe Resort in Orange Beach advertises low monthly snowbird rates from November to February on unit listings, and a seventh night free on stays of seven nights or more. Rules vary by unit owner.
  • Gulf Shores Plantation on Fort Morgan Road has condos next to Kiva Dunes, many with kitchens and washer-dryers,, booked through individual managers.
  • Hampton Inn & Suites Orange Beach showed mid-January weeknights from about $113 to $210, with accessible rooms and studios, free breakfast and a grocery store a five-minute walk away.
  • The Holiday Inn Express Gulf Shores allows buses, trucks, trailers and RVs in its free lot, and has six accessible rooms.

Check the calendar before you book. Perdido Beach Resort has usually closed for most of December, and the Hampton Inn Gulf Shores is being renovated through Jan 15, 2027. Holiday weeks and Mardi Gras (Feb 9, 2027) are busier.

We found no published senior day rate at the beach courses, and the RTJ Trail (Lakewood and Magnolia Grove) says it has no senior rate. For six or more rounds, Craft Farms' winter Six-Pack ($420 plus tax, valid to Feb 15, 2027) works out to $70 a round across two Arnold Palmer courses, with orders due Nov 15, 2026.
