Red-rock poster: Golf in Gulf Shores in October: Weather, Green Fees and the Shrimp Festival Weekend

Golf in Gulf Shores in October means highs near 79°F, lows near 60°F, about seven rain days and lighter wind than spring, with crowds thinned since Labor Day. It's one of the two best months of the year to play. Avoid National Shrimp Festival weekend, and remember hurricane season runs until November 30.

Here's what October looks like on the course, what it costs, and how to plan around the one big weekend.

Quick facts

  • Weather: normal high 79°F, low 60°F, 4.26 inches of rain on about 6.7 days (NOAA 1991-2020, Pensacola NAS).
  • Wind: about 6.1 mph average, down from 7.6 mph in April.
  • Gulf water: about 76°F (Pensacola Bay gauge average).
  • Daylight: sunset about 6:36 PM on Oct 1, falling to 6:04 PM by Oct 31 (calculated).
  • Green fees seen October 2026: about $37 to $175 for 18, depending on course and time of day.
  • Big event: National Shrimp Festival, Thursday to Sunday in October; 2027 dates not yet published.
  • Risk: hurricane season; the main risk window for this coast is August to October.

What is the weather like for golf in Gulf Shores in October?

Gulf Shores has no station with published 30-year normals, so these come from NOAA's Pensacola NAS station, on the coast about 24 miles east. October sits between a hot, wet September and a cooler November:

Month High / low °F Rain (in) Rain days Wind (mph) Water °F
September86 / 706.779.05.084
October79 / 604.266.76.176
November70 / 493.826.65.968

Wind is the average daily speed at Jack Edwards National Airport in Gulf Shores, 2016-2025.

Weather is the main reason to choose golf in Gulf Shores in October: you get almost spring-like temperatures without spring's wind. That matters most at Kiva Dunes, where the holes run east-west across the Gulf breeze. Inland, NOAA's Fairhope station averages about 81°F by day and 54°F at night, so an early round on the Eastern Shore starts cooler than one at the beach. For every month side by side, see Gulf Shores golf weather by month.

How much daylight is there in October?

Calculated for central Gulf Shores, Central Time:

Date Sunrise Sunset Daylight
Oct 16:43 AM6:36 PM11h 53m
Oct 156:52 AM6:20 PM11h 28m
Oct 317:03 AM6:04 PM11h 01m

Sunrise is late in October because daylight saving time is still on. The first tee times of the day go off close to 7 AM, which is fine because the mornings aren't hot. Twilight rates at most courses start around 1 to 2 PM, which leaves four to five hours of light. Our twilight golf in Gulf Shores guide covers the late-day rates in detail.

A few things in that table are worth knowing:

  • Late October is Kiva Dunes' priciest rate seen. Its public tier for late October ($174.77) was higher than mid-February 2027 ($154.21). Kiva's rates fall into November ($148.60 before 1 PM) and bottom out in December and January.
  • GolfNow sometimes undercuts the course. Hot deals for Oct 23-28, 2026 ran $111.99 to $159.99 at Kiva Dunes and $74.99 to $79.99 for afternoon times at Gulf Shores Golf Club, below its $99 twilight.
  • Lost Key's online price beat its rack rate. TeeItUp showed $80 in the morning against a posted $95. Card payments carry a 3% fee, and Florida sales tax of 7.5% applies. More in the Lost Key course guide.
  • Perdido Bay's posted spring-summer card ran to November 2, 2026. Its local rate of $70 covers Baldwin County residents, which includes Gulf Shores and Orange Beach owners with ID.

What do the Grand Hotel and RTJ courses cost in October?

The Robert Trent Jones Trail's fall season runs September 8 to November 15, 2026. Its "2 Days or More" special is $215 per person per day at the Lakewood Club, with cart and range balls, and from $115 per day at Magnolia Grove in Mobile. The Fall Swing, one round at Magnolia Grove plus one at Lakewood, is $295. Lakewood's own single-round rate with cart is $226 through November 30, 2026, plus tax. The Lakewood Club is at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, about 51 minutes from central Gulf Shores.

If you go, Dogwood is the harder Lakewood 18 (slope 141 from the tips) and its weekly maintenance day is Tuesday, so play Dogwood Wednesday to Monday. At Magnolia Grove, the Falls course has the waterfall at the 10th. Our Lakewood Golf Club guide has more.

Does the National Shrimp Festival affect golf in October?

Mostly through hotels and traffic, not tee sheets. The festival runs Thursday to Sunday in October at Hwy 59 and East Beach Boulevard. In a normal year it draws roughly 250,000 to 300,000 visitors and is Gulf Shores' biggest fall weekend for hotels, with gridlock at the south end of Hwy 59.

The 2026 festival (Oct 8-11, the 53rd) was canceled the day before it opened because of Hurricane Isaias, and it won't be rescheduled. Dates for 2027 hadn't been published as of October 2026. When they are, pick a week either side, or stay and play on the Perdido Key side, which avoids Hwy 59.

What about hurricanes in October?

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and the main risk for the north-central Gulf Coast is August to October. October 2026 showed the risk is real: Hurricane Isaias forced a mandatory evacuation of Gulf Shores and hit the Florida Panhandle. No course damage was reported, and Kiva Dunes, Gulf Shores Golf Club, TimberCreek and others had live tee sheets on October 22.

Practical steps for an October booking:

  • Check the cancellation terms on lodging before you pay.
  • Consider travel insurance.
  • Prefer courses that let you cancel. Kiva Dunes lets you cancel 48 hours or more ahead, while GlenLakes' online bookings are prepaid and non-cancelable; book GlenLakes by phone if plans may change (details in the GlenLakes course guide).

Course conditions in October

Gulf Coast courses are mostly bermudagrass. Some courses overseed tees and fairways with ryegrass in October and November; many don't, and most don't publish their practice. Gulf Shores Golf Club says fall, September to November, is one of its best stretches; see the Gulf Shores Golf Club course guide.

Two course notes from recent reviews: Lost Key, with seashore paspalum from tee to green, drew top conditioning marks in September and October 2026, while recent Soldiers Creek reviews (August to October 2026) were poor on greens and fairways. Our winter grass and overseed guide covers what happens after October.

A sample October long weekend

  • Day 1: Gulf Shores Golf Club in the morning, 7 minutes from the beach.
  • Day 2: Kiva Dunes, booked as early as its 120-day window allows. Take the twilight rate if you'd rather save $30.
  • Day 3: Lost Key and Perdido Bay, about 9 minutes apart on the Florida side.

That keeps every drive under 40 minutes. For a longer version, our Gulf Shores golf weekend plan has the full schedule, and the best time to golf in Gulf Shores guide compares October with the other months.
