A Gulf Shores Golf Weekend: Pick One Side of the Map, Beat Saturday Traffic, Play Three Rounds

A Gulf Shores golf weekend works best when you pick one side of the map and stay there: Kiva Dunes and Peninsula on Fort Morgan Road, Craft Farms and Gulf Shores Golf Club on Hwy 59, or Lost Key and Perdido Bay on the Florida side. Arrive Friday for a twilight round, play Saturday, and finish Sunday morning.

Three rounds in two and a half days is plenty, as long as you aren't spending an hour in the car between them. Gulf Shores golf spreads about 33 road miles from Kiva Dunes in the west to Perdido Bay in the east, so this guide splits the Alabama Gulf Coast into three weekend-sized pieces. Drive times are free-flow road estimates without traffic. Fees were seen in October 2026 and change.

Pick one side for your Gulf Shores golf weekend

Mixing sides costs time. From a Kiva Dunes condo, Lost Key is about 53 minutes away; from Perdido Beach Resort, Kiva Dunes is about 37. On a long week that's fine. On a weekend it eats a round.

The west weekend: Kiva Dunes and Peninsula

This is the Gulf Shores golf weekend for people who want the area's top-ranked public course. Kiva Dunes is Golf Digest's #13 in Alabama (2025-26), a Jerry Pate links-style course on the Fort Morgan peninsula between the Gulf and Bon Secour Bay. Peninsula is 27 holes by Earl Stone among live oaks, marsh and more than 30 lakes, beside the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, on the same road.

• Friday: land at Pensacola and play twilight at Gulf Shores Golf Club on the way in (18 to 20 minutes from Fort Morgan bases).
• Saturday: Kiva Dunes in the morning. Current USGA ratings are 74.9/142 from the 7,122-yard Gold tees and 72.0/137 from the Blues; the holes run east-west, so the Gulf breeze crosses nearly every fairway. See the Kiva Dunes course guide.

Stay at The Beach Club (1 to 5-bedroom Gulf-front condos, a spa and restaurants, 3 minutes from Kiva) or rent on the course from Kiva Dunes, whose direct renters get discounted golf and preferred tee times outside peak season. The central weekend: Craft Farms and Gulf Shores Golf Club

This one has the least driving. Craft Farms has Alabama's only Arnold Palmer designs, two 18s at one clubhouse about 5 miles inland off Hwy 59, and Gulf Shores Golf Club, the original 1964 course, is 1.7 miles from the beach.

• Friday: twilight at Gulf Shores Golf Club, $99 from about 1:30 to 2 pm in October and November 2026, cart included.
• Saturday: Cypress Bend in the morning and, if the group has the legs, Cotton Creek after lunch. Twilight at Craft Farms starts after 2 pm, and nine-hole rounds are only sold after 2 pm.
• Sunday: GlenLakes in Foley, a Devlin and von Hagge links-style 18 about 15 minutes from the Courtyard. Its October 27, 2026 sheet ran from $85.50 early to $49.25 from about 1:40 pm and $37 after 3 pm. Online GlenLakes times are prepaid and non-refundable.

The Courtyard sits on the edge of Craft Farms with free parking, guest laundry and a bar in the lobby, and Coastal Alabama Golf sells a three-night, three-round package there (price on request). If you want 36 in a day, this is the weekend for it; see 36 holes a day in Gulf Shores.

The east weekend: Lost Key and Perdido Bay

Fly into Pensacola and you hardly touch Alabama roads. Lost Key is on Perdido Key and Perdido Bay is in Pensacola, both in Florida and on Central time like Gulf Shores, and the Perdido Key route from PNS avoids Hwy 59 entirely.

• Friday: Perdido Bay in the afternoon, $65 from 1 to 3 pm. It hosted the PGA Tour's Pensacola Open from 1978 to 1987 and plays 7,052 yards from the Golds (74.3/138). No singles or twosomes before 10 am.
• Saturday: Lost Key in the morning, $80 online before about 1 pm in late October 2026, below the $95 rack. It has Sea Dwarf paspalum tee to green and slopes 143 from the Black tees. See the Lost Key course guide.
• Sunday: back to Perdido Bay for a morning round ($85 from 7:30 am to 1 pm), or Lost Key after 1 pm ($65) if you fly late.

How much does a Gulf Shores golf weekend cost?

Weekend pricing is dynamic at several courses. On the Eastern Shore, for example, TimberCreek's Saturday, October 24, 2026 morning rate was $89 against $79 on the following Tuesday. Book Saturday mornings early.

How do you beat the weekend traffic?

• Arrive Friday. Saturday is condo changeover in summer, and Hwy 59 backs up from Foley to the beach. Labor Day 2026 had backups near I-10 before 11 a.m.
• Use the Beach Express. The Baldwin Beach Express links I-10 to the Foley Beach Express and skips most of Hwy 59. The Foley Beach Express bridge has been toll-free since May 2024, so older pages quoting a toll are out of date. It can still back up at peak times.
• Come from the east. If you're playing Lost Key and Perdido Bay, the Perdido Key route from Pensacola avoids Hwy 59.
• Watch event Saturdays. Orange Beach's Mystics of Pleasure Mardi Gras parade is Saturday, February 6, 2027; the Orange Beach Seafood Festival takes over The Wharf on a late-February Saturday (2027 listed as February 27, unconfirmed).
