Direction and drive time from downtown: A 3-Day Gulf Shores Golf Itinerary with Real Drive Times and Fees

A good 3-day Gulf Shores golf itinerary is one marquee round a day from a central Hwy 59 base: Kiva Dunes on the Fort Morgan peninsula on day one, Craft Farms on day two, and Lost Key or Peninsula on day three. Add a twilight round at Gulf Shores Golf Club the afternoon you land.

Every drive time below is a free-flow road estimate from Hampton Inn Gulf Shores on Hwy 59, not a live traffic time. Fees were seen in October 2026 and change. The Hampton has free breakfast and parking, and Coastal Alabama Golf sells a three-night, three-round package there (price on request). Note that it is under renovation through January 15, 2027.

How the three days move around Gulf Shores

Gulf Shores golf courses sit in three directions from the Hwy 59 corridor, and this plan visits each:

  • Day 1 goes west down Fort Morgan Road. Kiva Dunes is the farthest course out on that road; Peninsula is on the same road, closer to town.
  • Day 2 stays close. Craft Farms is about 5 miles inland off Hwy 59, with two Arnold Palmer 18s at one clubhouse.
  • Day 3 goes east across Orange Beach to Lost Key on Perdido Key, Florida, which is on the Perdido Key route toward Pensacola airport.

Here is how the same courses look from other bases (estimated minutes):

Arrival day: twilight at Gulf Shores Golf Club

Pensacola (PNS) is about 69 minutes from Gulf Shores, so a midday landing still leaves time for a late round. Gulf Shores Golf Club is the closest regulation course to the beach, 3 minutes from the hotel. It's the original Gulf Shores course (1964), renovated by Jay and Carter Morrish in 2005-06: a watery par 71 at 6,856 yards from the Gold tees (72.9/127), 6,410 from the Blues.

Twilight was $99 from about 1:30 to 2 pm in October and November 2026, and $79 from 12:30 pm in early December, cart included. A late nine was $69 (Oct-Nov) or $49 (December). Public tee times open 46 days out online, maximum four per booking. The par-5 18th, 528 yards over water to the green, was upgraded in summer 2026. See the Gulf Shores Golf Club course guide.

Day 1: Kiva Dunes on the Fort Morgan peninsula

Drive 20 minutes west to Kiva Dunes, Golf Digest's #13 in Alabama (2025-26) and the area's top-ranked public course. Jerry Pate's links-style layout is tougher than its old scorecard says: current USGA ratings are 74.9/142 from the 7,122-yard Gold tees. Most visitors will be happier on the Blues at 6,505 yards (72.0/137) or the Whites at 5,878 (69.6/124).

Wind is the defense. The holes run east-west, so the Gulf breeze crosses almost every fairway; take one set of tees shorter than usual on a windy day. Reviewers say hidden water and bunkers catch first-timers, so download the free yardage book from the club site before you go.

Late-October 2026 rates were $174.77 before 2 pm and $144.86 after; November $148.60 before 1 pm and $111.21 after. Public times open 120 days out. More in the Kiva Dunes course guide.

Afternoon option: Peninsula is on the same road, about 13 minutes back toward town. It's 27 holes by Earl Stone among live oaks and marsh beside Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, and the club picks which two nines you play. Winter rates (from November 15, 2026) start from $89 with dynamic pricing.

Day 2: Craft Farms, the Palmer day

Craft Farms has the only Arnold Palmer designs in Alabama, two 18s from one clubhouse 8 minutes from the hotel.

  • Cypress Bend is the shorter one, with wide fairways but water on nearly every hole. The USGA rates it the harder of the two: 6,848 yards at 72.9/135 from the Golds, so pick a tee one step forward. GolfPass reviewers rate it the higher of the two. The 401-yard 4th, with a diagonal creek and a T-shaped green, is the hole the club calls its trickiest.
  • Cotton Creek is longer and tree-lined: 7,127 yards at 74.2/129. The 6th, a 395-yard dogleg over water twice, is the No. 1 handicap.

The daily public rate isn't published; check the club's online tee sheet. Twilight starts after 2 pm, and nine-hole rounds are only sold after 2 pm. Playing both in one day makes 36 without moving the car.

Day 3: Lost Key on the way out, or Peninsula

Option A: Lost Key (35 minutes)

Lost Key on Perdido Key, Florida, has Sea Dwarf paspalum from tee to green and drew top condition scores in its September and October 2026 reviews. It's tight and wet: 143 slope from the Black tees at 6,801 yards, 128 from the Whites at 6,001. Online prices for late October and early November 2026 were $80 before about 1 pm and $65 after, below the $95 rack rate, plus 7.5% Florida tax and a 3% card fee. The tee sheet opens 14 days out at midnight. It's on Central time like Gulf Shores. See the Lost Key course guide.

Option B: Peninsula (10 minutes)

If you didn't fit Peninsula in on day one and your flight is late, play it on the way out. The club says its sand base drains fast and its turf stays green all winter, which makes it a strong pick from November to March.

A late-October version with Gulf Shores Golf Club twilight, Kiva Dunes in the morning and Lost Key in the morning comes to about $354 per player before the Craft Farms round. To cut it, play Kiva after 2 pm and Lost Key after 1 pm, or swap in GlenLakes in Foley, a Devlin-von Hagge links-style course 18 minutes from the hotel where afternoon rates dropped below $50. Rates change; price your own dates.

Adjust the itinerary for the season

  • December and January: highs of about 61 to 64F and the lowest rates. Days are short, so skip the Peninsula add-on. Courses that don't overseed have tan, dormant bermuda.
  • February to May: peak season, with spring break all of March and April. March is the windiest month (about 7.8 mph average), so pick tees accordingly. Book Kiva Dunes early; its 120-day window lets you lock spring dates in winter.
  • June to August: highs of 87 to 89F and storms on 11 to 13 days a month. Play at dawn, check summer aerification dates, and avoid arriving on a Saturday, when condo changeover jams Hwy 59.
  • September to November: September is hot, wet and the hurricane peak. October is the best fall month (highs about 79F). The National Shrimp Festival is normally Gulf Shores' busiest fall weekend; the 2026 festival was canceled because of Hurricane Isaias, and 2027 dates aren't published yet.
