Peak season: January to April
These are the months snowbirds come for, and the courses are at their best on fresh rye. January and February afternoons sit in the mid-to-high 60s, with chilly dawns: the normal January low is 40.8F at the airport, about 36F in Green Valley and about 31F at Catalina State Park near Oro Valley. First tee times often carry frost delays.
February is the busiest month in town. The gem, mineral and fossil shows (about January 27 to February 14, 2027) fill hotels citywide, and La Fiesta de los Vaqueros runs February 20 to 28, 2027. Book rooms months ahead, or base in Oro Valley, Marana or Green Valley.
March is the best golf month: mid-70s, drying out and courses in top shape. It is also full-price and busy, with the Festival of Books (March 13 to 14, 2027), spring break and the Cologuard Classic, listed on resale sites for March 18 to 21, 2027 at La Paloma, a private club, so it is spectators only.
April is the value pick of peak season. It is the driest stretch (1.6 rain days) and the breeziest, though still light at about 8 mph on average. Snowbirds leave after Easter (March 28, 2027), and many courses step down from peak rates during the month. Our Tucson golf in March and Tucson golf in January guides go deeper.
Summer: May to September
May is low 90s and bone-dry, and summer rates begin at most courses. June is the hottest month, with a normal high of 101.2F. The monsoon follows from July, bringing humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, lightning, dust storms and flash floods, with about 8.5 to 8.8 rain days a month in July and August.
The upside is price. Summer 2026 GolfNow deals ran $18.99 to $24.99 with a cart at Torres Blancas and $28.99 at Crooked Tree. Sewailo ran a Two Players promotion at about $100 for two with cart from May 18 to September 10, 2026. Book the first tee time, carry water and expect lightning suspensions. Our Tucson summer golf guide covers the heat.
Fall: overseed, then the season starts
Overseeding begins at many courses in mid-to-late September. Expect closures of one to three weeks, temporary greens and cart-path-only into October. Sewailo was closed September 14 to October 1, 2026 and cart-path-only to October 23. City minutes show El Rio and Silverbell closed together in 2025, while Dell Urich and Randolph North overseed in different months. See Tucson golf overseed.
By late October, the weather is good (86.3F high, 0.67 in of rain) and conditions are coming back. Prices rise quickly: San Ignacio went from $27.99 to $43.99 in September 2026 to mostly $51 to $72 by late October.
November is one of the best months of the year: mid-70s, dry and sunny, with fresh rye. El Tour de Tucson closes roads across the metro on November 21, 2026, and Thanksgiving is November 26. Our Tucson golf in November guide covers the month.
December cools to the mid-60s and brings the second, smaller rainy spell (0.96 in over about 4.4 days). It has the coldest nights of the year, so frost delays are likely, and the holiday weeks are busy.
Which month for which golfer
- Best conditions, price no object: March.
- Best balance: November or April.
- Long winter stay: arrive in November, leave after Easter. See Tucson winter golf.
- Cheapest rounds: June to August at dawn.
- Resort trip without the February crunch: early December or January, avoiding holiday weeks.
- Avoid: mid-September to mid-October without checking overseed, and early February if you need a cheap hotel.
The best time depends on where you base
Highs are almost the same across the area, but mornings are not. In January the normal low is 40.8F at the airport, 36.1F in Green Valley and 30.6F at Catalina State Park near Oro Valley. That has two effects on timing.
- North side and Green Valley in midwinter: December to February bring more frost delays, so plan later tee times. Torres Blancas and Canoa Ranch run a Frost and Heat Index line, 520-352-1082.
- Central Tucson in midwinter: milder nights, so the first tee times hold more often. El Conquistador in Oro Valley is about 26 minutes from downtown; El Rio is 7.
- Summer: Green Valley and Catalina State Park run about 1 to 2F cooler on afternoons and several degrees cooler at night than the airport, which helps a little.
For a winter stay, also count your days. Canadian visitors watch a six-month US limit, the IRS 183-day weighted test and provincial health limits; see Canadian snowbirds in Tucson.
Resort and course quirks by season
Omni Tucson National's Catalina Course was absent from tee-time listings on October 27, 2026, so check for overseed closures before a late-October trip. At Tubac Golf Resort, the Anza nine is closed for new greens until about January 2027, so only 18 holes are open this fall. The Tubac course guide and Sewailo course guide have the details.
Hotel room rates by season are unknown here: live rates could not be read in October 2026. For other towns' calendars, compare the best time to golf in Yuma and the best time to golf in Mesquite.
