Tucson golf in March means the best weather of the year: about 76F afternoons, less rain than January or February and green overseeded courses. It also means peak rates, the Cologuard Classic (2027 dates unconfirmed), the Festival of Books and spring break. Book rooms months ahead and grab tee times as soon as windows open.
March sits at the end of a four-month peak that starts in January. The snowbirds who arrived in November are still here for most of the month, visitors fly in for the warm-up after a northern winter, and the calendar adds a tour event and a large book festival. Here is what March looks like on the ground and how to plan around it.
Quick facts
- Weather (NOAA 1991-2020, Tucson airport): 75.8F high, 48.0F low, 0.56 in of rain, about 3.1 rain days, average wind 7.7 mph.
- Season: peak; rates and tee-sheet demand are at their highest.
- Events: Tucson Festival of Books, March 13-14, 2027; Cologuard Classic, listed for March 18-21, 2027 (resale listings only, unconfirmed).
- Easter: March 28, 2027. Snowbird departures pick up from mid-March.
- Time zone: Mountain Standard Time all year. California moves to daylight time on March 14, 2027, after which Tucson and Los Angeles share a clock.
- Spring training: none in Tucson; the Cactus League is in metro Phoenix, about two hours north.
What Tucson golf in March feels like
The numbers explain why March is the month everyone wants. Afternoons are in the mid-70s, rain falls on about three days, and the wind averages under 8 mph. Courses have had their ryegrass in since the fall overseed and play green from tee to green.
The one catch is the morning. Tucson's outlying golf areas run colder at night than the airport station, because cold air drains into the valleys. A 7 AM tee time in Oro Valley or SaddleBrooke can start in the high 30s, and by the turn you will be in shirt sleeves.
| Area (NOAA station) | March high | March low | March rain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central Tucson (airport) | 75.8F | 48.0F | 0.56 in |
| Green Valley | 75.6F | 44.4F | 0.58 in |
| Oro Valley edge (Catalina State Park) | 74.8F | 36.4F | 0.70 in |

Tucson golf events in March
Two events shape March demand.
Tucson Festival of Books, March 13-14, 2027. Held on the University of Arizona Mall, free to attend and one of the largest book festivals in the US. Campus-area parking and hotels are busy that weekend. It has little direct effect on tee sheets, but central hotel rooms tighten.
Cologuard Classic (PGA Tour Champions). The only 2027 dates we found were on ticket-resale listings: March 18-21, 2027 at La Paloma Country Club in the Catalina Foothills. The tournament had not confirmed them as of October 26, 2026. The event moved to La Paloma in 2024 after nine years (2015-2023) on the Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National. Steven Alker won it in 2025 and 2026.
La Paloma Country Club is private, so tournament week is spectators only. The Westin La Paloma next door and other Foothills hotels are busier. Older sources say Westin guests can book tee times at the club, but the current guest policy was not confirmed, so ask when you book a room. Our La Paloma golf guide covers access in more detail.
Meanwhile Omni Tucson National's Catalina Course operates normally. Its 18th was the old tour finishing hole, and it is open to the public as well as resort guests. If you want a round with tour history in March, that is the one you can actually book. See the Omni Tucson National Catalina course guide.
| Date | Event | Effect on a golf trip |
|---|---|---|
| March 13-14, 2027 | Tucson Festival of Books | Campus-area hotels and parking busy |

| March 18-21, 2027 (unconfirmed) | Cologuard Classic at La Paloma CC | Foothills hotels busier; La Paloma spectators only |
| Mid-March onward | Spring break and snowbird departures begin | Demand stays high, then eases late in the month |
| March 28, 2027 | Easter Sunday | Departures pick up after; April rates step down |
Our Tucson golf events guide lists the rest of the year, including the February gem shows and rodeo.
March rates: what peak looks like
Few Tucson courses publish a fixed rate card, and many use dynamic pricing, so the clearest March prices come from the courses that do publish.
| Course or pass | March price | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Quail Creek, non-resident 18 with cart | $130 plus tax | Robson 2026 fee sheet; prime season Oct 1-May 31 |
| Quail Creek, resident or renter 18 | $84, cart extra | Same sheet |
| SaddleBrooke Country Club, resident or renter 18 | $79 AM / $61 PM (winter, Nov 1-May 31) | 2026 golf year sheet, which ended Oct 31, 2026; 2026-27 rates not yet seen |
| The Golf Club at Dove Mountain, peak 18 | $250-$360 | where2golf, rates updated 2024; resort guests and members only |
All of these rates change, and the 2027 sheets were not yet posted when we checked in October 2026. Our Tucson golf rates guide tracks every course we found.
Two value notes for March. First, the Quail Creek renter rate saves about $46 on an 18-hole prime-season round against the public rate, which adds up on a month-long stay. Second, the Green Valley public courses use dynamic pricing, so compare the club site against GolfNow before you book. Haven Golf Course is the walkable one, and its prepaid GolfNow rate was $44.99 with a cart for October 18, 2026; March will run higher.
Booking Tucson golf in March
March bookings fail in two ways: the room is gone, or the tee time is.
Rooms. The season research advises booking rooms months ahead for February and March. If you are flying in for a long weekend, book the hotel first, then fit the golf around it. The RV parks publish March prices: Rincon Country West RV Resort listed a standard site at $84 a day or $494 a week from January to March, and $2,900 for February and March together (2026-27 card, seen October 2026).
Tee times. Book as soon as each course's window opens. Published windows are rare: Haven opens reservations 7 days ahead for two or more players (per an undated listing), and Tucson City Card holders get 7-day advance booking at the five city courses. Our guide to Tucson tee times covers who opens when.
Resorts. If you want the resort courses, stay at the resort. At Starr Pass you can walk from the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass to the first tee, and the club also sells public times. The Dove Mountain Nicklaus 27 is only for members and guests of the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain. See the Starr Pass course guide and the Quail Creek course guide for details.
Late March: the season turns
Easter falls on March 28, 2027. Snowbird departures start picking up from mid-March and accelerate after Easter. That makes the last week of March and early April a sweet spot: weather is still excellent, April averages 82.9F with only 1.6 rain days, and many courses step down from peak rates during April.
If your dates are flexible, a trip that straddles the end of March and the start of April gets most of the March weather with less of the March crowd.
March golf in Tucson vs other Arizona towns
If you are weighing Tucson against other desert winter towns for a March trip, our sister guides cover Yuma golf in March and Mesquite golf in March. For snowbirds staying the whole winter, the Tucson winter golf guide explains how the season fits together, and Tucson golf in January covers the start of peak.

Questions golfers ask
Is March a good month for golf in Tucson?
It is the best one on paper. NOAA normals at Tucson International Airport give a 75.8F average high, a 48.0F low and 0.56 inches of rain over about 3 rain days. Courses are overseeded and green, which is also why rates are at their peak.
When is the Cologuard Classic in 2027?
The only 2027 dates we found were on ticket-resale listings: Thursday March 18 to Sunday March 21, 2027 at La Paloma Country Club. The tournament and PGA Tour Champions had not confirmed them as of October 26, 2026, so treat them as unconfirmed.
Can I play La Paloma during the Cologuard Classic week?
No. La Paloma Country Club is a private club, and during the event it is spectators only. The Westin La Paloma and other Foothills hotels are busier that week.
Is the Cologuard Classic still at Omni Tucson National?
No. It was played on the Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National from 2015 to 2023 and moved to La Paloma Country Club in 2024. Omni Tucson National operates normally during the event.
How cold are March mornings in Tucson?
The normal March low is 48.0F at the airport, 44.4F in Green Valley and 36.4F at Catalina State Park on the Oro Valley edge. Afternoon highs are almost the same across the area, in the mid-70s, so it is the first tee time that changes, not the round.
When do snowbirds leave Tucson?
Departures pick up from mid-March and after Easter, which is March 28, 2027. Tee times open up and many courses step down from peak rates during April.
Is there spring training baseball in Tucson in March?
No. The Diamondbacks and Rockies left Tucson after the 2010 season, and the Cactus League is now entirely in metro Phoenix, about two hours north. A game means a long day trip or a split stay.
