Red-rock poster: Temecula golf in fall: harvest crowds, overseed timing and Santa Ana winds

Temecula golf in fall means two different months at once: a hot, busy September of harvest crowds and course aeration, and an October and November of cooler, dry, high-priced golf with the occasional Santa Ana wind day. Plan by month, not by "fall", and book the course after you know its turf work.

Weather comes from the Fallbrook station (NOAA 1991-2020 normals), which runs cooler than the valley floor in summer, so September and early October at inland courses are hotter than shown. Rates are what we saw, with dates.

Quick facts

  • September: 87.8F average high, 14.2 days over 90F, 3.5 days over 100F.
  • October: 83.1F, 8.8 days over 90F, 2.1 days over 100F.
  • November: 74.3F, 3.5 days over 90F, 1.15 inches of rain.
  • Santa Ana winds: most common October to December.
  • Fall peak pricing: from about mid-October.
  • Clocks back: November 7, 2027 (November 1, 2026).

September: hot, busy, and turf work begins

September is not October. It averages 88F at the station with more than two weeks over 90F and a few days over 100F, and the valley floor runs hotter. It is also peak harvest and crush, so wine-country weekends are crowded. This is when many courses aerate or overseed, and the research found no per-course dates. Phone first and ask what the greens and tees look like on your date.

October: the real fall start

Heat eases to 83F and the sky stays dry. Fall peak green fees start from about mid-October. Santa Ana wind days start to matter: hot, dry, gusty conditions that can close courses or bring smoke. If you book prepaid, read the cancellation terms. Redhawk prepaid GolfNow slots are non-refundable, and the Golf Club at Rancho California refunds only with 24 hours' notice.

November: cooler, wetter, shorter

Highs are 74F with 52F lows, and November rain (1.15 inches over 4.6 days) means the first wet days of the year. Thanksgiving falls on November 26, 2026 and November 25, 2027 at fall-peak fees. Sunset is 4:46pm by mid-month once the clocks go back, so start early. See Temecula weather by month for the full daylight table.

Santa Ana winds and what to do

Santa Ana winds are offshore, hot, dry and gusty, mostly September to December. They raise fire danger and can close courses or bring smoke. The research did not quantify frequency. A sensible plan:

  • Check the forecast the night before and the pro shop that morning.
  • Keep one indoor or wine-room alternative for the day. See things to do in Temecula.
  • Avoid non-refundable prepaid slots on a week when a wind event is forecast.

Harvest, wine and driving

August to October is harvest, peaking in September, and weekends are the pinch point. If you pair golf with tasting, use a driver, a tour or a ride service, and split the day: golf in the morning, tasting after. Our Temecula golf and wine trip guide lays out a safe order. Wine-country hotel rates are highest on Friday and Saturday nights through October, so a Sunday-to-Thursday stay is the value play. The dates and festivals are on the Temecula events calendar.

Fall versus other seasons

Fall and spring are the two peak seasons. Spring is cooler on mornings and greener; fall is drier, with the Santa Ana risk. See Temecula golf in spring for the comparison, Temecula golf in winter if price matters more than warmth, and best time to golf in Temecula for the full ranking. In Palm Springs, October is overseed month, so many desert courses close; our Palm Springs golf overseed guide shows why Temecula is a useful October alternative.

A fall plan that works

The simplest fall trip avoids September and the Saturday crowd. Aim for the last two weeks of October through mid-November, play Sunday to Thursday, and keep Thanksgiving week for locals and families. Book the room first. Then use prepaid slots for the value rounds and keep one afternoon open for wind or rain.

Priority Why
Room firstJourney's tee-time window is seven days
One premium roundJourney at Pechanga at $175 for hotel guests or $215 public
Two or three value roundsPrepaid slots in the $40s to $70s
One flex afternoonSanta Ana winds or the first rain

Fall for snowbirds

November is the start of the snowbird season. The Pechanga RV Resort lists Sunday to Thursday rates from $81 for a Premium back-in and Friday, Saturday and holiday rates from $110, with packages of 7, 14 or 29 nights ($532, $1,012 and $2,012 for Premium). See Temecula snowbird rentals for houses and 55+ rentals.

The October overseed in the desert

If the desert is your other option, October is when many courses there close or play on temporary greens. That is the reason an October Temecula trip is a useful alternative. See Palm Springs golf in fall for the comparison.

Plan it on the map

Open the Temecula golf map to see which fall courses sit closest to your hotel, then add your dates to the $49 plan, which sequences rounds around the weekends and wind-day backups.

Questions golfers ask

Is fall a good time to golf in Temecula?

October and November are the second peak season. Highs are about 83F in October and 74F in November, mostly dry, with the harvest wrapping up. September is still hot, at about 88F with 14 days over 90F, and is also when many courses aerate or overseed.

What are Santa Ana winds in Temecula?

Hot, dry, gusty offshore winds, most common from October through December and possible from September. They raise fire danger and can close courses, delay tee times or bring smoke into the valley. How often this happens was not quantified from a local station.

When do Temecula courses overseed or aerate?

Many aerate or overseed from mid-September into October, and nearly all aerate greens at least once a year. No per-course 2026 dates were found in our files, so ask each pro shop. One example: Echo Hills in Hemet does an annual overseed and is walking only until about November 17, per a district page that does not state the year.

Are Temecula green fees higher in fall?

Fall peak green fees start from about mid-October. Prepaid GolfNow slots we saw for September and October 2026 ranged from $26 to $88 at Redhawk and $41.99 to $81.99 at the Golf Club at Rancho California, so timing and slot matter as much as the season.

When is wine harvest in Temecula?

Roughly August to October, peaking in September, which is general industry timing rather than an official date. Weekends bring crowds to wineries and Rancho California Rd, and wine-country room rates are high.

What time does the sun set in Temecula in fall?

About 6:55pm in mid-September, 6:15pm in mid-October and 4:46pm in mid-November, from computed 2027 figures. Clocks go back on November 7, 2027 (November 1, 2026), which pulls sunset to about 4:45pm.

Is Thanksgiving busy for golf in Temecula?

Yes. It is a busy holiday weekend at fall-peak green fees, on November 26, 2026 and November 25, 2027. Book the room and the tee times early.
