One flag per course: Temecula golf in winter: rain, frost, short days and the lowest fees

Temecula golf in winter is mild, wet at times, and cheaper. Highs sit near 67F, lows near 46F, February is the wettest month, and fog or frost can delay first tee times. Green fees step down from the fall peak, so winter midweek is the best value, if you pick a dry window.

Weather is from the Fallbrook station (NOAA 1991-2020), read November 6, 2026. Inland courses are colder at dawn than that station shows.

Winter value rounds in detail

Soboba Springs is the long course of the Hemet valley: 7,339 yards from the Gold tees, a 75.3 rating and 140 slope, with Bermuda fairways and greens. It was redesigned in 2006 and is owned by the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians. Winter midweek is the time to play it, and the senior rate of $70 for 55 and over is the best value in our files. Tribal, junior, military and nine-hole rates are by phone, at (951) 654-4300. It is 50 minutes from Old Town.

Hemet Golf Club is a par-71, 6,588-yard public course, rated 71.6 with a slope of 124. We saw $49 weekday and $59 weekend with cart, $35 or $40 for nine holes, and a twilight rate of $42 weekday after 1pm. One separate listing shows $70 and $80, so sources conflict; call (951) 926-4653.

California Oaks is short, a par-70 at 5,199 yards, 66.3 rated, with a $40 weekday rate and a $25 nine-hole rate. Reviewers flag poor conditions, so ask about conditions before you drive.

Echo Hills is a nine-hole Valley-Wide Recreation course at $15 daily. It runs an annual overseed with walking only until about November 17, per the district page, which does not give the year.

Frost and fog: what to ask

  • Is there a frost or fog delay today, and how long are the usual ones?
  • Are carts on the path only after the recent rain?
  • Are greens covered or on temporary greens?
  • What time is the first tee time that sticks?

The research notes that the valley gets cold clear dawns and ground fog, and that first tee times can be delayed. Low-lying courses are colder at dawn than the Fallbrook station.

A winter week on the board

A winter week at the Temecula courses can mix one resort round, two value rounds and a wet-day buffer. Journey is 10 minutes from Old Town; the Legends is 8; Hemet and Soboba are the farther options at 33 and 50 minutes. See the Temecula golf weekly schedule for a rotation.

Winter checklist

  • Pack a rain shell and a base layer.
  • Book morning tee times a little later than you would in spring, since early groups are the ones delayed by frost or fog.
  • Keep a wine-room or Pechanga backup for wet days.
  • Check cart-path rules before you leave.
  • Book the room first for holiday weeks, when wine-country hotels and Pechanga fill.

Questions golfers ask

Is Temecula good for golf in winter?

Yes, with caveats. Highs are about 67F and lows 46 to 47F at the nearest NOAA station, so days are mild. It is also the wettest part of the year, with 2.6 to 3.7 inches a month and five or six rain days, plus morning fog and frost that can delay early tee times.

How cold are winter mornings in Temecula?

The Fallbrook station shows lows of 46 to 47F and almost no freezing nights. The research notes that low-lying inland Temecula courses are colder at dawn than that station, and ground fog and frost can delay first tee times. That difference was not quantified.

How many daylight hours do you get?

10h11 in mid-January, 11h00 in mid-February and 9h57 in mid-December, with sunset about 4:42pm in December. Start early; a late round runs out of light.

Are green fees cheaper in winter?

Fees step down from the fall peak, and winter is the cheapest of the cool months, with rates climbing toward spring in February. Most courses here do not publish a seasonal sheet, so confirm with the course.

Where do snowbirds stay in Temecula?

Options in our data are Pechanga RV Resort (Premium 29-night package $2,012), furnished houses at roughly $4,000 to $6,500 a month, and unfurnished Sun City Menifee 55+ homes at about $1,750 to $2,500 a month, mostly on 12-month leases. Prices are from listings, not verified.

Do courses close for rain in winter?

Wet days can close courses or make carts path-only. These are most common December to March. Call the pro shop on the morning of a wet-forecast day.

Is winter busy in Temecula?
