Courses drawn to one scale: Temecula weather by month: what each month means for a round of golf

Temecula weather by month runs from mild, damp winters (highs near 67F, three to four inches of rain in January and February) to dry, hot late summers (highs near 88F, 14 days over 90F in August and September). April, May, October and November are the best golf months, with one caveat: these normals come from a cooler station than the valley floor.

This guide gives the month-by-month numbers and turns each into a tee-time decision. Figures are NOAA 1991-2020 normals, read November 6, 2026.

Quick facts

  • Station: Fallbrook 5 NE, the nearest NOAA normals station found. It sits closer to the coast and higher than Temecula, so it runs cooler in summer.
  • Warmest month: August, 89.3F average high at the station.
  • Coolest nights: December and February, about 46F.
  • Wettest month: February, 3.74 inches over about six rain days.
  • Driest month: July, 0.08 inches.
  • Time zone: Pacific, with daylight saving time (clocks go forward March 14, 2027 and back November 7, 2027).

Why the Fallbrook caveat matters

Fallbrook 5 NE is the only NOAA normals station the research found near Temecula. It is cooler in summer than the valley floor around Temecula, Murrieta and Hemet, and nobody has published a NOAA table for those places that we could read. One low-quality weather-site snippet put Temecula's warmest month at August with highs around 88F, which matches the station's shape, but treat any summer high here as a floor.

The other direction matters too. Low ground around the inland courses is colder at dawn than the station shows. Plan on a jacket for a 7am tee time from December to February.

Winter weather: December to February

Highs sit near 67F, lows near 46 to 47F, and these are the wettest months. Expect 2.6 to 3.7 inches a month and five or six rainy days. Wet days can close courses or put them on cart-path-only rules, and valley fog or frost can push back the first groups. Green fees step down from the fall peak, which is why this is snowbird season. Our Temecula golf in winter guide covers what to pack and when to book, and the Temecula winter golf for snowbirds guide covers longer stays.

Spring weather: March to May

March is still damp (2.02 inches, 6.3 rain days) at 70F. April is one of the best months: 72F, one inch of rain, four rainy days. By May rain is a trace (0.36 inches), highs reach 75F, and low cloud can hold mornings. Our Temecula golf in spring guide has the booking advice, because spring rates are peak rates.

Summer weather: June to August

June averages 81F with marine-layer mornings. July and August reach 87F and 89F at the station, with 10 to 14 days over 90F. Rain is almost absent. The inland courses are hotter, so play at dawn or twilight. See Temecula summer golf for rates and heat tactics.

Fall weather: September to November

September is still hot (87.8F, 3.5 days over 100F) and is also when many courses aerate or overseed, so check each course before booking. October cools to 83F and November to 74F, with rain returning at 1.15 inches in November. Santa Ana winds are most common from October through December and can bring hot, gusty days. The Temecula golf in fall guide covers them.

Daylight by month

These sunrise and sunset times are computed for the 15th of each month of 2027 at Old Town Temecula, in Pacific time, accurate to about two minutes.

February6:3317:3311h00
March6:5918:5611h57

October6:5318:1511h22
November6:2016:4610h26
December6:4516:429h57

The December day is under ten hours, with sunset before 4:45pm, so start early. In June, sunset at about 8pm leaves room for a late-afternoon round.

How to use the numbers

Match the month to the hard part of the trip.

For a month-by-month verdict on price and crowds, use best time to golf in Temecula, and for event weekends see the Temecula events calendar. Fees by season are in Temecula golf rates. If you are comparing desert climates, the Palm Springs weather guide shows the contrast.

Packing and tee-time rules of thumb

  • December to February: a base layer for a 46 to 47F dawn, and a rain shell. Ask the pro shop about frost or fog delays before a first-light tee time.
  • March: the most changeable spring month, with 6.3 rain days.
  • April and May: light layers. May mornings can be cloudy.
  • June to August: sun protection and water. Early or late rounds beat midday.
  • September and October: still warm, with 14 days over 90F in September, so treat early September like summer.
  • November: a return of rain (1.15 inches) and short days.

Weather and prices

The weather pattern drives price more than any single event. Fall and spring are the two peaks, winter steps down, and summer is lowest. The research notes that Friday and Saturday nights from spring through harvest are typically the priciest in wine country, which is separate from the weather.

Plan it on the map

Questions golfers ask

What is the hottest month in Temecula?

At the nearest NOAA station (Fallbrook 5 NE) August is the warmest month, with an average high of 89.3F and about 14 days over 90F. The Temecula valley floor is warmer than that station, but no NOAA table for it was read, so treat 89F as a floor for inland courses.

When does it rain in Temecula?

Mostly December to March. The Fallbrook station averages 2.64 inches in December, 3.17 in January, 3.74 in February and 2.02 in March, with five to six rainy days a month. July is nearly dry at 0.08 inches.

Does it get cold enough to frost in Temecula?

The Fallbrook station averaged almost no freezing nights (0.2 in January, none in other months), but the research notes that low-lying inland Temecula courses are colder at dawn than that station, and valley fog and frost can delay first tee times in winter. That difference was not quantified.

What are the best months for golf weather in Temecula?

April, May, October and November. Highs run 72F, 75F, 83F and 74F, rain is light, and nights are 50 to 58F. These are also the busy, higher-priced months, so book early.

Why use Fallbrook weather for Temecula?

It is the nearest NOAA 1991-2020 normals station found for the area. The only other local hit, Murrieta, is a rain gauge without normals. Fallbrook is closer to the coast and higher than the valley floor, so it runs cooler in summer than Temecula, Murrieta and Hemet.

What time does the sun set in Temecula in winter?

About 4:42pm in December and 4:46pm in mid-November, from computed 2027 figures at Old Town Temecula, accurate to about two minutes. Sunset is 5:04pm in mid-January and 5:33pm in mid-February, so afternoon rounds need an early start.

Is Temecula weather the same as Palm Springs?

No. The research file describes Temecula summers as hot and dry but milder than Palm Springs or Las Vegas, and winters as cooler and wetter than Palm Springs. Marine-layer low cloud in May and June is a Temecula feature.
