St. George, Utah Events Calendar for Golfers: When Crowds, Closures and Tournaments Hit Washington County and Mesquite

For golf trip timing in St. George, Utah, the dates to avoid are early October (the PGA TOUR event in Ivins, the St. George Marathon and the Huntsman World Senior Games stack up), March to early April (spring break, Easter and Zion traffic), and September (overseed closures across Washington County and Mesquite). The calmest windows are November after mid-month, non-holiday December and January, and late April through May.

St. George golf is spread across several towns, so an event in one place does not squeeze every course equally. Here is where the pressure falls, with drive times from downtown St. George.

The St. George Marathon, the Huntsman World Senior Games and spring break affect the whole St. George area rather than one corner of it.

Golf events that close or crowd courses

PGA TOUR Bank of Utah Championship (Black Desert, Ivins)

The FedExCup Fall event at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, formerly the Black Desert Championship, ran October 23-26 in 2025 and October 1-4 in 2026. Bank of Utah's title deal runs through 2027; 2027 dates were not published when checked.

The course effect is bigger than tournament week. In 2026 Black Desert was closed to the public September 14 to October 6, and from August 1 to September 13 it played with mats and limited tees as TOUR prep. Huntsman World Senior Games

Two weeks every October (October 5-17 in 2026). Golf is one of the sports. In 2025 the Games drew up to about 12,000 athletes age 50+ from 28 countries, and 2022 reported 57,950 room nights. Courses and hotels stay busy through mid-October. If you're 50+ and want to compete, this is the event; if you want quiet fairways, come later. See senior golf in St. George.

Mesquite tournaments

CasaBlanca Golf Club hosts the Nevada Open every November, with 200+ golfers. It ran November 4-6 in 2025. The event calendar lists 2026 as unconfirmed; CasaBlanca's course listing gives November 3-5, 2026, with the final round at CasaBlanca. The tournament is played at CasaBlanca and the Palms golf clubs.

CasaBlanca also lists its own resort tournaments that block tee sheets: the II-Man Fall (November 6-8, 2026), the Gobbler Classic (November 22) and Swing with Santa (December 20). Check before booking early-November trips to Mesquite. Remember that Mesquite runs on Pacific time, one hour behind St. George, so tee times there are Mesquite local time.

Smaller events

• Utah PGA Pro-Assistants Championship: November 9-10, 2026 at Sunbrook and SunRiver. A small Section event that may limit tee times for two days.
• Epson Tour: Copper Rock in Hurricane hosted the LPGA Epson Tour Copper Rock Championship from 2021 to 2026. No 2027 date is in our data.

Non-golf events that squeeze tee times and hotels

St. George Marathon (first Saturday of October)

The 50th running on October 3, 2026 drew 10,000+ participants (it sold out in three weeks), and city officials estimated about $15 million in economic impact. Hotels price at a premium race weekend, and major roads close race morning. In 2026 it fell on the same weekend as the PGA TOUR event, with local reports of premium hotel rates ($150+ a night). The pattern points to October 2, 2027, though that date wasn't published yet.

Spring break and Easter

March to early April is the heaviest family travel of the year. The Washington County School District's 2026-27 break is March 8-12, 2027, with March 26 and April 16 also off, and other Utah districts and Canadian provinces break in different March weeks. Easter weekend brings the free St. George Art Festival at Historic Town Square (April 3-4 in 2026). Easter 2027 is March 28, so the festival will likely be March 26-27, 2027, though that's unconfirmed.

Combined with snowbird season and Zion traffic, March and April weekends book up first. At Sand Hollow in Hurricane, Saturday March 20, 2027 had only afternoon times left when checked on October 11, 2026 (see the Sand Hollow course guide).

Parade of Homes, commencement and summer holidays

The Parade of Homes (February 13-22, 2026) adds pressure on weekend lodging during snowbird season. Utah Tech University's commencement (May 6-7, 2026; 3,078 graduates) fills hotels mid-week. In summer, Zion logged 95,000+ visits over Memorial Day weekend 2025, and hotels toward Zion and in St. George fill on holiday weekends even though summer green fees are the lowest of the year.

Events that no longer matter

• IRONMAN 70.3 St. George: the final race was May 10, 2025. Greater Zion declined to renew, so early May no longer has race-week road closures and a hotel squeeze.
• LPGA Black Desert Championship: held once, April 28 to May 4, 2025, and not on the 2026 LPGA schedule.

Older trip guides may still warn about early May. You can ignore them.

Overseed: the closure calendar

September isn't an event, but it shapes your trip more than most of them. The 2026 City of St. George schedule closed each course in turn: Sunbrook September 8-22, Dixie Red Hills September 9-23, St. George Golf Club September 21 to October 5 and Southgate September 22 to October 6. In Washington, Green Spring closed September 18 and September 21-25, then ran cart-path-only to October 11. Most Mesquite courses close for part of September too (Wolf Creek was closed August 30 to October 2, 2026). Full details in the St. George overseed schedule.

Booking tee times in St. George around event weeks

If your dates touch a busy week, the booking window decides whether you get the round you want. The windows below come from each course's published policy, checked October 2026:

The quiet windows for golf trip timing

Putting the calendar and the climate together:

• Mid-to-late November: after the Senior Games and the Mesquite tournaments, before Thanksgiving week. Low-60s afternoons and the lightest wind of the year. See St. George golf in November.
• Early December and January (outside the holiday break): cool, with frost delays, but quiet courses. Peak-season rates still apply at most courses.
• Late April and May: after spring break and Easter, with the IRONMAN gone. Warm and dry, just watch Utah Tech commencement week.
• Summer: open tee sheets and the lowest green fees, but highs of 96 to 102F mean dawn golf only.
