PGA West is about 39 minutes and 25.7 miles from downtown Palm Springs, free-flow, and the Indio courses 30 to 38 minutes. A base in the wrong place can add an hour or more a day to a buddies trip. The west end: Palm Springs and Cathedral City
Stay here for the town itself: mid-century hotels, Palm Canyon Drive dinners and the airport 10 minutes away. The golf is close and fairly priced.
- Indian Canyons North: 7 minutes, a 1961 Bell layout under the mountains; posted $130, or $110 twilight, in October 2026.
- Tahquitz Creek Resort: 8 minutes, $63.99 to $65.99 plus fee for November 7-8, 2026.
- Escena: 10 minutes, the most complete daily-fee round in town.
Hotels: the Kimpton Rowan is the downtown walk-to-dinner pick, and the Hyatt Palm Springs is an all-suite hotel on Palm Canyon Drive, with about $50 a night in resort fee and parking on top. The Courtyard Palm Springs near the airport had no resort fee found and parking about $10 a day. In Cathedral City, the DoubleTree Golf Resort sits on the Desert Princess course with a resort fee of about $40.
Watch-outs: north and west Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs can be windier than mid-valley, because west winds funnel through the San Gorgonio Pass. The Film Festival (January 7-18, 2027), Modernism Week (February 11-21, 2027) and Pride (November 6-8, 2026) fill Palm Springs hotels. Mid-valley and La Quinta courses are 17 to 40 minutes away.
The middle: Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert and Indian Wells
The middle is the default answer for where to stay in Palm Springs for golf when the group wants variety. The public and resort courses of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert and Indian Wells sit 17 to 29 minutes from downtown Palm Springs, so a base on Highway 111 puts you among them, with Palm Springs to the west and PGA West to the east.
- Mission Hills - Gary Player: 17 minutes from downtown; near $50 in the off season.
- Desert Willow Mountain View: 23 minutes; the more forgiving of the City of Palm Desert's two Desert Willow courses.
- Indian Wells Golf Resort Celebrity: 29 minutes, with the redesigned Players next to it.
Hotels with golf: the JW Marriott Desert Springs has two courses on site, the Westin Rancho Mirage has its Pete Dye course next door, and the Grand Hyatt Indian Wells includes preferred tee times at Indian Wells Golf Resort in its resort fee. Value hotels: the Holiday Inn Express Rancho Mirage and Holiday Inn Express Palm Desert have free breakfast and no resort fee found; the Residence Inn Palm Desert is 3 minutes from Desert Willow with kitchens. For walkable dinners mid-valley, Hotel Paseo is a block off El Paseo, with a destination fee of about $37 to $42.
Watch-outs: the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells (February 28 to March 14, 2027) fills the middle in March, the valley's most crowded month.
The east end: La Quinta and Indio
Stay east if PGA West is the point of the trip. PGA West Stadium is 39 minutes from downtown Palm Springs but minutes from La Quinta. The city-owned SilverRock and the Indio public courses such as Terra Lago North are close, too.
Hotels: La Quinta Resort & Club lets guests book five resort courses, including the Stadium, up to 365 days ahead. The Embassy Suites La Quinta is the value suite hotel near PGA West and SilverRock, listed "from $148" by AAA for an unstated date. In Indio, the Hampton Inn Indio was about $110 a night for a November 2025 date, and the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino has its own course, Eagle Falls.
Watch-outs: dawn. In January, the NOAA normal low at Thermal is 39.0F against 47.6F at Palm Springs airport, and in December 37.7F against 46.2F, so first tee times at the east end wait on frost more often. And April festival weekends, Coachella on April 9-11 and 16-18, 2027 and Stagecoach on April 23-25, send rates near Indio to their highest of the year. CoStar reported a $636 average daily rate across the Palm Springs market over Coachella's first weekend in 2025.

Is the east end of the valley colder for early tee times?
