Tee times for a Palm Springs buddies golf trip

Book the day the window opens. In peak season the morning times go first. The published windows: La Quinta Resort guests 365 days at the five PGA West resort courses, Desert Willow Platinum Club Card holders 60 days, Escena and Rams Hill 30 days, and Classic Club 60 or 90 days (its site gives both).

Use the shop for groups. Classic Club books three or more tee times through its golf shop, sells same-day replay rounds after your first, includes a $25 food and drink voucher with most bookings, and needs 72 hours' notice to cancel without penalty. Watch cancellation rules. Escena forfeits prepaid fees without 24 hours' notice for bookings 0 to 3 days out and 72 hours for 4 to 30 days out. With 16 golfers, one missed deadline is expensive.

Ask about packages. La Quinta Resort offers group golf packages on request, and a stay-and-play package for the Renaissance Esmeralda in Indian Wells bundles rooms, a rental car and guaranteed tee times.

Multi-course facilities that suit a group

At Desert Princess, ask which nines are in play when you book; the La Vista/El Cielo rotation is the longest, and the 27 holes rotate through maintenance. Indian Palms is short and dated but cheap and easy to get on, with a hotel on site; confirm current rates, as the card is from late 2024. Where to sleep a group

The base sets the tone of a Palm Springs buddies golf trip, so pick it before the tee times.

Top end. La Quinta Resort & Club has Spanish-style casitas around dozens of pools and multi-bedroom villas that suit groups, plus the 365-day PGA West booking window. Budget for the extras: a third-party tracker lists a $45.60 nightly resort fee, and self-parking is reported at $25 a night. The Grand Hyatt Indian Wells villas are the pick for a group there, and its resort fee ($45, rising to $50 for bookings from January 1, 2027) includes preferred tee times and discounted green fees at Indian Wells Golf Resort.

Villas with kitchens. Marriott's Desert Springs Villas have two- and three-bedroom villas next to the JW Marriott courses, and Marriott's Shadow Ridge has two-bedroom villas that sleep a foursome, with a Nick Faldo course on site. Both are timeshares rented from owners, so confirm what golf access the rental includes. Shadow Ridge's Villages renovation runs to November 19, 2026.

Casino base. Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio is a fun, cheaper east-valley base, 6 minutes from its own course, Eagle Falls, and 9 from Terra Lago. Renting a house or condo: check the rules

A rental house with a pool is the classic buddies base, but the cities regulate them:

• Palm Springs: stays shorter than 28 nights are reported to need a city vacation rental certificate.
• La Quinta: rentals of 30 days or fewer count as short-term rentals needing a city permit, which covers most PGA West home rentals.
• Desert Princess, Cathedral City: two-bedroom condos are common and several units can house a bigger group, but one listing says the HOA requires a 30-day contract.

Evenings

Every Palm Springs buddies golf trip needs a night or two off the course:

• Night golf. The Indio Golf Course is an 18-hole par 3 lit until 10 PM, $50 walking in winter 2026-27, with a lit range. It is a good warm-up or a round non-golfers can join.
• The 19th hole. Big Rock's pub is a live music venue, and Escena's grill runs late Wednesday to Saturday.
• Casinos. Fantasy Springs, the Agua Caliente casinos, Spotlight 29 and Augustine.

Dates to avoid

Timing can make or break a Palm Springs buddies golf trip. Coachella (April 9-11 and 16-18, 2027) and Stagecoach (April 23-25, 2027) send valley room rates to records; CoStar put the Palm Springs-market average daily rate at $636 on Coachella 2025 weekend 1.
