For flights to Palm Springs on a golf trip, fly into Palm Springs International (PSP) if the fare is reasonable. It sits 10 minutes from downtown Palm Springs and less than 45 minutes from La Quinta and Indio. Ontario (ONT) is the usual cheaper backup at about 84 minutes, and LAX is a half-day drive. Canadians have seasonal nonstops to PSP from several cities.

This guide compares the airports by drive time, lists the Canadian and US routes listed for PSP, covers the drive down from Alberta and BC, and explains the time zone change. Drive times are free-flow estimates from the OSRM router, queried November 2, 2026, and ignore traffic. Airline routes come from Wikipedia's PSP table, which is flagged incomplete, so check schedules before you book.

Quick facts

  • Closest airport: PSP, 10 minutes and 4.9 miles from downtown Palm Springs.
  • Cheaper backup: Ontario (ONT), 84 minutes, 70.1 miles.
  • Biggest choice: LAX, 145 minutes free-flow, 2.5 to 4 hours in real traffic.
  • PSP passengers: 3,307,140 in 2025.
  • Canadian nonstops to PSP: WestJet, Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Flair and Porter (most seasonal).
  • Time zone: Pacific; one hour behind Arizona in winter.

Flights to Palm Springs: the airports compared

Airport Drive to downtown Palm Springs Notes
Palm Springs International (PSP)10 min, 4.9 miThe obvious choice; peak-season fares can be high
Ontario International (ONT)84 min, 70.1 miOften cheaper; I-10 through the San Gorgonio Pass
Los Angeles International (LAX)145 min, 123.8 miWidest choice; real drive 2.5 to 4 hours
San Diego International (SAN)154 min, 122.8 miUseful if combining with a San Diego stay
Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX)294 min, 273.8 miOnly for a split Arizona-California trip
Jacqueline Cochran, Thermal (TRM)45 min, 34.0 miPrivate aviation only; no scheduled airline service known

All times are OSRM free-flow estimates, which usually run long on interstate legs and ignore traffic. Los Angeles and Inland Empire traffic on I-10 can add an hour or more, so the LA-area times are the most optimistic.

From PSP, downtown Palm Springs is 10 minutes. Downtown Palm Springs to Palm Desert is about 26 minutes, to Indio 33 and to La Quinta 39. PSP sits east of downtown, so mid- and east-valley drives from the airport are a little shorter, though those were not routed separately.

PSP: who flies there

The airport says nine airlines fly nonstop to 31 airports, with counts varying by season. Wikipedia's table, read November 2, 2026, lists:

  • Alaska: Portland, San Francisco and Seattle, plus seasonal Boise, Everett, New York-JFK and Santa Rosa.
  • American: Dallas/Fort Worth and Phoenix, plus seasonal Charlotte and Chicago-O'Hare.
  • Delta: seasonal Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York-JFK (ending December 19, 2026), Salt Lake City and Seattle, with Delta Connection to Salt Lake City year-round.
  • Southwest: Denver, Oakland and San Jose, with Sacramento and a spring Austin service announced.
  • United: Denver and San Francisco, plus seasonal Chicago-O'Hare, Newark and Washington-Dulles, and United Express to Houston and Los Angeles.
  • Allegiant: Bellingham, plus seasonal Des Moines. Avelo and Sun Country are also listed among PSP's carriers.

Rental cars are on site, with taxis and ride-hail too. You will want a car: the courses spread 40 minutes down the valley.

Canadian flights to Palm Springs

WestJetCalgary, Edmonton, VancouverYear-round per the table
WestJetWinnipegSeasonal
Air CanadaVancouverSeasonal
Air Canada RougeToronto-PearsonSeasonal
FlairVancouverSeasonal
PorterToronto-PearsonSeasonal (launched December 2024, three times weekly at launch)

Two cautions on Canadian flights to Palm Springs. In May 2025, Flair and WestJet cut some seasonal PSP flights to Vancouver and Winnipeg, and winter 2026-27 Canadian frequencies could not be confirmed because route pages would not load. Check the schedule before you plan a winter around a nonstop.

LAX has the widest choice of Canadian nonstops, including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto (not re-checked). Phoenix also has Canadian nonstops, seen in October 2026: WestJet from Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon, WestJet and Air Canada from Vancouver, and Air Canada and Porter from Toronto. That matters only for a split trip; see the Tucson flights guide if you are pairing Palm Springs with Arizona.

Driving down from Canada and the Pacific Northwest

From Free-flow drive Distance Usual route
Seattleabout 23.5 hr1,996 kmI-5 south, then across to I-10
Vancouverabout 26.5 hr2,224 kmI-5 via Seattle; border at Blaine
Calgaryabout 27 hr2,542 kmCoutts/Sweetgrass, I-15 via Salt Lake City and Las Vegas
Edmontonabout 30.5 hr2,833 kmJoins the Calgary route

OSRM runs long, so real driving is usually a little shorter. Most Calgary drivers take three days. Winter weather on I-15 in Montana, Idaho and Utah, or over Oregon's Siskiyou Summit on I-5, can slow or close the routes, so leave slack in the schedule.

One rule for drivers staying a month or more: since April 11, 2025, Canadians aged 14 and over staying 30 days or more who did not receive an I-94 record, which includes most who drive in at a land crossing, must register with USCIS. Recheck this before you go; it is general information, not legal advice.

Time zones

The whole Coachella Valley is on Pacific Time with daylight saving: PST from November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, then PDT. Arizona stays on UTC-7, so Phoenix is one hour ahead of Palm Springs in winter and the same in summer.

For Canadians, as checked in late October 2026: Vancouver is one hour ahead of Palm Springs in winter and the same in summer, Alberta and Saskatchewan are two hours ahead in winter and one in summer, Manitoba two hours ahead all year, and Ontario and Quebec three.

First and last rounds near the airport

Flights in and out of PSP make a round on arrival or departure day easy:

Flying in without clubs? Classic Club in Palm Desert rents Callaway sets for $90 per its booking page.

Flying into Ontario or LAX: golf on the way

The drive from Ontario or LA passes through the Pass at Beaumont, where two public facilities break up the trip. Oak Valley is the best-reviewed public course in the Pass, with fall 2026 GolfNow deals from $32.99. Morongo's Champions course at Tukwet Canyon lists $90 weekday mornings and $55 after 2 PM. Both are about 42 to 44 minutes from downtown Palm Springs. See the Oak Valley course guide and our Morongo and Tukwet Canyon guide.

Which airport for which trip

  • Buddies trip of three to five days: PSP. The time saved on the drive is a round of golf.
  • Fare-driven trip: compare PSP with ONT; ONT is often cheaper and much easier than LAX.
  • Snowbird season: drive, or fly PSP on WestJet and rent a car for the winter. See Palm Springs winter golf for snowbirds.
  • Event weeks: PSP fares run high all peak season, and valley rooms peak around The American Express, the BNP Paribas Open and the Indio festivals; see Palm Springs events.

Once your flights to Palm Springs are booked, pick the base: our where to stay for golf in Palm Springs guide and Palm Springs golf trip guide cover the three ends of the valley.

How far is Ontario airport from Palm Springs?

About 84 minutes and 70 miles to downtown Palm Springs on a free-flow estimate, via I-10 through the San Gorgonio Pass. Weekend and rush-hour Inland Empire traffic can add a lot, and high winds in the pass occasionally restrict high-profile vehicles.

How long is the drive from LAX to Palm Springs?

The free-flow estimate is 145 minutes for 123.8 miles, but real times are commonly 2.5 to 4 hours depending on Los Angeles traffic. Avoid Friday afternoon eastbound and Sunday afternoon westbound.

Yes. Wikipedia's airline table, read November 2, 2026, lists WestJet to Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver year-round with seasonal Winnipeg, Air Canada seasonal Vancouver, Air Canada Rouge and Porter seasonal Toronto, and Flair seasonal Vancouver. Winter 2026-27 frequencies were not confirmed, and some seasonal flights were cut in May 2025.

How long is the drive from Calgary to Palm Springs?

About 27 hours free-flow for 2,542 km, and most drivers take three days. The typical route uses the Coutts/Sweetgrass crossing and I-15 south via Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. Edmonton adds about three and a half hours.

What time zone is Palm Springs in?

Pacific Time with daylight saving: PST from November 1, 2026 to March 14, 2027, then PDT. Arizona stays on UTC-7, so Phoenix is one hour ahead of Palm Springs in winter and the same in summer.
