Desert Hot Springs: views, wind and low prices
Up on the north side of I-10, Mission Lakes is an older Ted Robinson course with big views across the valley. A GolfNow hot deal was $34 with cart in August 2026. Since Desert Dunes closed in January 2025, it is the only full-length public-access 18 left in Desert Hot Springs. The Sands adds a 9-hole executive course at an RV resort. Play early: the north end catches strong wind. See the Mission Lakes course guide.
Desert Hot Springs is also RV country, with hot-spring resorts such as Sam's Family Spa, where daily rates start at $85.
Palm Springs: old classics close to town
Palm Springs has five bookable courses within 10 minutes of downtown. Indian Canyons North, a 1961 William F. Bell course, and Indian Canyons South are owned by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. Tahquitz Creek is the city's 36-hole facility, and its Legend course is the old municipal layout from 1959. Escena is the modern Nicklaus Design course near the airport.
Private golf here is small: O'Donnell, a 9-hole club below the mountain downtown, and Seven Lakes, an executive-length course for its condo community. Palm Springs Country Club and Mesquite have both closed.
Cathedral City: value golf
Cathedral City is where Palm Springs goes for cheap rounds. Cimarron Boulder showed $56.49 after 3 PM for November 3, 2026, and its executive sister Cimarron Pebble is par 55. Cathedral Canyon had $44.99 to $61.99 hot deals in early November 2026. Desert Princess is a 27-hole homeowner-owned club that sells public times, and Date Palm is a well-kept par-58 executive course. See the Cimarron Boulder course guide and our Cathedral City golf guide.
Rancho Mirage: mostly private
Rancho Mirage has 11 private clubs and three courses you can book. Mission Hills Gary Player is a 7,062-yard daily-fee course, now independent of the Westin, with off-season hot deals around $50. The Westin's Pete Dye Resort Course reopens November 3, 2026 with rebuilt greens, and the Omni Rancho Las Palmas has 27 short, flat holes. The famous names, Thunderbird and the three courses at Mission Hills Country Club, are private: Thunderbird is member-guest only, and Mission Hills is played as a member's guest or through Invited reciprocal programs. More in Rancho Mirage golf.
Palm Desert: the middle of everything
Palm Desert has the most public golf in the valley. The city-owned Desert Willow Mountain View and Firecliff, the JW Marriott Desert Springs Palm and Valley courses, Classic Club and Marriott's Shadow Ridge are all here. So are community courses such as Woodhaven, whose 2:30 PM public rate is $50 for November and December 2026, and the two Mountain Vista courses at Sun City Palm Desert north of I-10. Palm Desert is also home to private clubs such as BIGHORN and Stone Eagle. See Palm Desert golf courses.
Indian Wells: two public courses and four hotels
Indian Wells is the most compact golf town in the valley. The city-owned Indian Wells Golf Resort has the redesigned Players Course and the friendlier Celebrity Course, with the Grand Hyatt and three other resort hotels a short walk away. The other eight clubs, including The Vintage Club and Toscana, are private. More in Indian Wells golf.
La Quinta: PGA WEST and the private clubs
La Quinta is the valley's golf headline. The five PGA WEST resort courses, including the Stadium, take public bookings, as do the city's SilverRock, refreshed after a 2026 back-nine renovation, and Trilogy, which takes non-resident bookings 30 days ahead. Fourteen more clubs are private, among them The Madison Club, The Quarry and La Quinta Country Club, a host of The American Express. See La Quinta golf courses and the SilverRock course guide.
Indio and Bermuda Dunes: the east-end value
Indio has nine bookable courses, mostly mid-priced. Terra Lago North is the drama, with elevation, blind shots and an island-green par-3 15th. Eagle Falls belongs to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Heritage Palms, an Arthur Hills course in a 55+ community, showed $45.99 with cart in September 2026, and the city's lit par-3 Indio Golf Course runs night golf until 10 PM. The Plantation is private and invitation-only. Next door in Bermuda Dunes, Bermuda Dunes Country Club is private with member-guest play. See the Heritage Palms course guide and Indio golf courses.
