The best place to stay in Naples for golf depends on which courses you can actually book. Most of the 150-plus courses here are private, so pick a base near the public and guest-only ones you want: North Naples for Tiburón and LaPlaya, East Naples for Lely, Estero for Stoneybrook and Saltleaf, or Fort Myers for the cheap city courses.

Deciding where to stay in Naples for golf is mostly a choice of county. This guide compares the bases from Naples up to Fort Myers and Cape Coral, with drive times from the Lie of the Land Naples map data and hotel price figures from the county tourism reports. Room rates were not published for most hotels when we checked on November 3, 2026, and rates change, so treat the price notes as a guide.

Quick facts

  • Biggest decision: Naples (Collier County) or Bonita, Estero and Fort Myers (Lee County).
  • Price gap: Collier hotels averaged $487.60 a night in February 2026; Lee hotels averaged $230.25 for January to March 2026.

Drive times come from free-flow routing to downtown Naples (Fifth Avenue South), so real season drives are longer.

Staying in Naples itself: downtown, North Naples and East Naples

Downtown and central Naples is the base for dinners on Fifth Avenue and the beach, not for golf. Almost every course within 10 minutes is a private club. The nearest public course is Hibiscus Golf Club, 9 minutes away, which stays public only until spring 2027 before it closes to be rebuilt as a members-only club. Inn on Fifth says its guests get golf privileges at nearby clubs, but the clubs and fees were not named in what we read, so ask before you book. The value options are on US 41: Hampton Inn Central Naples, Courtyard Naples, Hyatt House Naples/5th Avenue and Holiday Inn Express Naples Downtown.

North Naples is where the resort golf is. The Ritz-Carlton Naples, Tiburón sits inside Tiburón Golf Club, two Greg Norman courses that guests book with the room; guests of the beach hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, take a free shuttle and book as resort guests. LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort on Vanderbilt Beach is the only way for a visitor into LaPlaya Golf Club, which is inland and an 11-minute drive from the hotel. Read the Tiburón course guide for the tournament closures. For a cheaper North Naples bed, the Hampton Inn Naples I-75 is 7 minutes from ArrowHead Golf Club, one of the few true public courses up there, and the Hilton Naples sits on US 41 about 3.5 miles from Tiburón.

East Naples suits golfers who want Lely. The Hampton Inn & Suites Naples East is 4 minutes from Hibiscus and the nearest brand hotel to Lely Resort's Flamingo Island and Mustang courses. Renting at the GreenLinks Golf Villas inside Lely puts Flamingo Island 4 minutes away, and the listings say GreenLinks guests get preferred tee times and discounted golf. Eagle Lakes Golf Club, 24 minutes from downtown, had some of the cheapest fall twilight rates in Naples ($55 from 2:30 pm, November-December 2026).

Marco Island for golf

Marco is a beach base first. The JW Marriott Marco Island owns two mainland courses, The Rookery at Marco inside Fiddler's Creek and Hammock Bay, which members and resort guests play; GolfPass lists a stay as required for a tee time. A free shuttle runs to the Rookery, about 15 minutes away. The Hilton Marco Island next door has no guest golf found, and the island's own two courses are private. Parking ($38-48) plus the JW's resort fee (about $55) adds roughly $95 to $100 a night before tax. See the Rookery course guide.

Staying in Bonita Springs or Estero

This is the middle of the board: 26 minutes to downtown Naples from Bonita and 35 from Estero, with Fort Myers and RSW to the north. The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point is 4 minutes from Saltleaf Golf Preserve, the former Raptor Bay, but Saltleaf is now a public daily-fee course and its own site mentions no Hyatt guest arrangement, so do not count on a resort rate. The Saltleaf course guide has the details.

For value, Hyatt Place Coconut Point is inside the mall, the Embassy Suites Estero is 6 minutes from Stoneybrook Golf Club, and the Hampton Inn Bonita Springs is 4 minutes from Spanish Wells and 7 from Bonita Fairways. Stoneybrook's public rates for January to April run $199 in the morning, $170 after noon and $105 at twilight, plus tax. More in the Bonita Springs golf guide and Estero golf courses.

Staying in Fort Myers, near RSW or in Cape Coral

The interstate hotels near RSW are the practical buddies-trip base. Homewood Suites Fort Myers Airport/FGCU, Hilton Garden Inn Fort Myers Airport/FGCU and the Residence Inn at Gulf Coast Town Center sit off Alico Road by I-75; the Homewood is 13 minutes from Stoneybrook. The SpringHill Suites Fort Myers Airport is north of the airport toward Daniels Parkway, where Red Sox and Twins spring training games back up traffic in February and March.

Downtown Fort Myers puts you closest to the city's two courses. The Luminary Hotel is 7 minutes from Fort Myers Country Club and 13 from Eastwood; Hotel Indigo is a minute closer to each. Both city courses charged $70 with cart before noon and $35 after 3 pm in November 2026, tax included. Downtown Fort Myers is 40 to 50 minutes from Naples courses, though. See the Fort Myers golf courses guide.

Cape Coral is far from Naples (45 to 60 minutes) but close to Coral Oaks, the city course, and Palmetto-Pine. The Westin Cape Coral is about 1 mile from Cape Royal, and the Hampton Inn & Suites Cape Coral is 12 minutes from Palmetto-Pine. Bridge traffic to Fort Myers is heavy in season.

Beach and island bases

Pink Shell Beach Resort and Margaritaville Fort Myers Beach are on an island still rebuilding after Ian, with courses 25 to 45 minutes away; the nearest public option, Shell Point Golf Club, is 16 minutes from Pink Shell. The mainland Hampton Inn & Suites Fort Myers Beach/Sanibel Gateway (9 minutes to Shell Point) and Marriott Sanibel Harbour (8 minutes) avoid the island prices and the causeway toll.

On Sanibel, Sundial Beach Resort is 2 minutes from Sanibel Island Golf Club and 8 from The Dunes; Casa Ybel is close too. The causeway toll is $6 with a transponder or $9 by plate, westbound only. The Sanibel golf guide covers the island.

  • Golf-first couple, money no object: a Ritz-Carlton for Tiburón, or LaPlaya.

Questions golfers ask

Is it better to stay in Naples or Fort Myers for golf?

It depends on which courses you want. Naples has the guest-only resort courses (Tiburón, LaPlaya, the Rookery) and Lely's two public courses, while Fort Myers has the cheapest public golf at the two city courses. Bonita Springs and Estero sit between them and reach both sides in about 30 minutes.

How much more expensive are Naples hotels than Fort Myers?

A lot in season. Collier County (Naples and Marco Island) hotels averaged $487.60 a night in February 2026, while Lee County (Fort Myers, Bonita, Estero, Cape Coral, the beaches and Sanibel) averaged $230.25 across January to March 2026. Interstate hotels near I-75 are the value bases on both sides.

Where should I stay to play Tiburón?

At The Ritz-Carlton Naples, Tiburón, which sits inside the club, or at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples on the beach, whose guests take a free shuttle and book as resort guests. The files show no other route in for visitors, and green fees are not published.

What is the best base near RSW airport for golf?

The Alico Road hotels by I-75 (Homewood Suites, Hilton Garden Inn and the Residence Inn at Gulf Coast Town Center) or the Embassy Suites in Estero. Stoneybrook is about 6 minutes from the Embassy Suites, and RSW is 25 minutes from downtown Fort Myers and 48 from downtown Naples.

Is Fort Myers Beach or Sanibel a good golf base?

Only if the beach comes first. Fort Myers Beach is still rebuilding after Ian, and most courses are 25 to 45 minutes away over the bridge. Sanibel has The Dunes and Sanibel Island Golf Club a few minutes from the resorts, but everything else means the causeway toll and a long drive.

How far is Marco Island from the golf?

Marco Island is about 30 minutes from downtown Naples and 45 to 60 minutes from the Bonita and Fort Myers courses. Guests of the JW Marriott Marco Island can play the Rookery at Marco and Hammock Bay on the mainland, with a free shuttle to the Rookery that runs about 15 minutes.

Which base suits a buddies group?

Estero or south Fort Myers for most groups. You are central to Stoneybrook, Saltleaf, San Carlos, Eastwood and Fort Myers Country Club, close to RSW, and hotel rates in Lee County run far below Naples in February and March.
