Locator map: Naples vs Fort Myers golf: which base suits which golfer

On Naples vs Fort Myers golf, Fort Myers wins on price, public tee times and airport access, while Naples has the resort golf, the beaches and the polished downtown, at roughly double the hotel rate in season. Most Naples courses are private; the Fort Myers side has more public and semi-private golf. Bonita Springs and Estero are the middle ground.

This guide compares the two bases on course access, green fees, hotels, travel, weather, events and nights out, then matches each to the golfer it suits. Course counts are from our map; prices were seen November 3, 2026 and change.

The Fort Myers side here is Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, North Fort Myers and Alva. Naples includes the Marco Island resort courses on the mainland. Some semi-private clubs on the Fort Myers side have limited outside play: Hideaway Country Club is public only from May to October, and Herons Glen and Del Tura did not confirm outside play terms, so call ahead.

Naples' public golf is a short list: Lely Flamingo Island and Lely Mustang, Hibiscus (public only until spring 2027), Eagle Lakes, ArrowHead and Valencia, 40 minutes east. Its strength is the guest-only resort golf: Tiburon Gold and Black for Ritz-Carlton guests, LaPlaya Golf Club for LaPlaya guests, and the Rookery at Marco and Hammock Bay for JW Marriott Marco Island guests. See the Lely Flamingo Island course guide.

The Fort Myers side has the two city courses, Fort Myers Country Club and Eastwood, Cape Coral's Coral Oaks, Troon-run Ibis Landing and a string of semi-private clubs that sell public times, from Westminster in Lehigh Acres to Palmetto-Pine and Cape Royal in Cape Coral. The Coral Oaks course guide covers the Cape's city course and its passes. See Fort Myers golf courses and the Eastwood course guide.

Hotels and rentals

Lodging is the biggest difference in Naples vs Fort Myers golf. Lee County hotels averaged $144.43 a night in October to December 2025 and $230.25 in January to March 2026; Collier County hit $487.60 in February 2026. The season file puts it plainly: a February or March Naples beach hotel can cost about twice a comparable Fort Myers or Estero hotel.

Getting there and getting around

RSW, the area's airport, is 25 minutes from downtown Fort Myers and 48 from downtown Naples. Downtown to downtown is about 55 minutes on free-flow estimates, but from January to April, I-75, US 41 and Daniels Parkway traffic can add 15 to 45 minutes. From Naples, Cape Coral is about 58 minutes and Lehigh Acres 68, so a Naples-based group will rarely play the far side of Fort Myers. See our flights to Fort Myers RSW guide.

Weather: coast vs inland

Daytime highs are almost identical, within about 1F all year. The differences are small but real:

Naples (coast) RSW (inland)
January high / low74.8F / 55.9F74.7F / 54.4F
January rain days4.77.8
June rain7.41 in10.33 in
March windnot published8.0 mph

NOAA 1991-2020 normals. Inland dawns run 1-2F cooler in winter, and inland Lee County logs more rain days and heavier early-summer storms. See Naples weather by month.

Events and nights out

Naples has the tour golf: the CME and Grant Thornton on Tiburon's Gold in November and December, and the Chubb Classic on the Black in February. Downtown means Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South, about a 10-minute walk apart.

Fort Myers has spring training, with the Red Sox and Twins from February 19, 2027, plus the River District downtown, Topgolf by I-75 and the Everblades at Hertz Arena in Estero. Spring training plus the snowbird peak makes February and March the tightest stretch for Fort Myers rooms and tee times.

The middle ground: Bonita Springs and Estero

Bonita Springs is about 26 minutes from downtown Naples and Estero about 35, both close to RSW. A base here puts Saltleaf and Stoneybrook on the doorstep and reaches Lely to the south and the Fort Myers city courses to the north. The Hyatt Regency Coconut Point and Embassy Suites Fort Myers-Estero are two very different price points. See Bonita Springs golf and Estero golf courses.

Naples vs Fort Myers golf: which golfer, which base

  • Pick Naples for resort golf (Tiburon, LaPlaya, Marco), the beaches, a walkable downtown and couples trips where the evenings matter as much as the golf.
  • Pick Fort Myers for value, the most public tee times, a quick airport run, spring training and a buddies trip on a budget.
  • Pick Bonita or Estero to split rounds between both and keep every drive under about 40 minutes.

Our where to stay in Naples for golf guide compares the bases in more detail, and Cape Coral golf courses covers the far side of the river.

Fort Myers. RSW is 25 minutes from downtown Fort Myers and 48 minutes from downtown Naples. Estero and Bonita Springs are about 15 to 25 minutes from the terminal.

Can I play Tiburon if I stay in Fort Myers?

Is the weather different in Naples and Fort Myers?

Daytime highs are within about 1F all year. Inland Fort Myers and RSW run 1-2F cooler at dawn in winter and log more rain days, about 7 to 8 a month in winter against 4 to 5 at Naples, plus a heavier June.

What about staying in between?

Bonita Springs and Estero sit in the middle, 26 and 35 minutes from downtown Naples, and close to RSW. They put Saltleaf and Stoneybrook nearby and reach both ends of the map, which suits a group splitting rounds between Naples and Fort Myers.
