Tee-time ticket: Naples golf in December and January: weather, prices and holiday weeks

Naples golf in December and January means mild, dry days in the mid-70s, green bermuda fairways and two very different price levels. Early December is quiet and still on shoulder rates; Christmas week and all of January price like peak season. Expect the odd cold front, short afternoons and busier tee sheets as snowbirds settle in.

This guide covers what Naples golf in December and January feels like on the course, the holiday weeks, the Grant Thornton Invitational at Tiburon, how rates step up at New Year and what winter lodging costs. Prices were seen November 3, 2026 and change.

  • Turf: bermuda, rarely overseeded; growth slows in January.
  • Events: Grant Thornton Invitational Dec 11-13, 2026; Naples Winter Wine Festival Jan 29-31, 2027.

December and January weather on the course

February77.2F / 57.9F1.40 in, 4.2 days77.6F / 55.9F6.77.5 mph

NOAA 1991-2020 normals at Naples Municipal Airport and RSW. Daytime highs are almost the same from the coast to the airport, but inland dawns run a degree or two cooler and RSW logs more rain days. Frost is rare, but a strong cold front can bring 40s at dawn for a day or two, so pack a layer for the first tee times.

The turf is the other winter change. Southwest Florida courses are bermuda, and the season file notes that, unlike the Coachella Valley, almost none overseed with rye. Bermuda keeps growing here all winter, more slowly, and can look off-colour after a cold front. Lely Resort's Flamingo Island, for example, has Champion ultradwarf bermuda greens and 419 bermuda fairways.

Early December: the sweet spot

The season notes describe early December tee sheets as "relatively open". Snowbirds are still arriving, the Thanksgiving rush is over, and most courses are still on fall cards. Some of those posted November to December rates:

  • Ibis Landing: $99 before noon, $89 noon to 3 pm, $69 after 3 pm, plus tax (Nov 1 to Dec 31, 2026).
  • Stoneybrook: $130 morning, $99 afternoon, $70 twilight, plus tax.
  • Eagle Lakes: $89 to $109, $55 from 2:30 pm.
  • The Dunes, Sanibel: $169 in December on its 2025-26 card.

Short days are the trade-off. With sunset around 5:40 pm in early December, a twilight round needs a brisk pace.

Christmas, New Year and the January step up

From Christmas week, prices jump. The season file says the Christmas to New Year weeks price like peak season as families visit snowbird parents, and January opens the January to April peak.

Course November-December January
Stoneybrook (morning)$130$199
Stoneybrook (twilight)$70$105
The Dunes, Sanibel$169 (December)$189 Jan 1-14, $199 from Jan 15
Coral Oaksnot published$90 with cart, $65 Cape Coral resident (January 2026)

Stoneybrook rates are from its 2026-27 card and The Dunes from its 2025-26 card; both are plus tax and dynamic. Coral Oaks' January 2026 figure comes from a third-party tracker. Most other public courses had not posted January rates when checked, including the Fort Myers city courses, which post one month at a time. Our Naples golf rates guide tracks what is published.

The Grant Thornton Invitational at Tiburon

The Grant Thornton Invitational, a mixed PGA Tour and LPGA team event, is played December 11-13, 2026 on Tiburon's Gold course; one listing gives a December 7-13 window including practice and the pro-am. It is the second Tiburon tournament closure in four weeks, after the CME in November. When the Gold is closed, the Black usually carries resort play, though that is not confirmed for 2026. Hotels outside Tiburon feel only a modest effect. See the Tiburon Gold course guide and our Naples golf events guide.

Booking tee times over the holidays

Holiday weeks fill the same way the peak does: mornings first. Most public windows are short, so set a reminder for the day each one opens:

  • Saltleaf: 90 days ahead, card required, cancel 48 hours out.
  • Valencia: 30 days online, useful for a fixed Christmas-week date.
  • Fort Myers Country Club and Eastwood: 7 days online on foreUP. Note that non-playing riders are not allowed from October 15, 2026, so a relative who just wants to ride along cannot come out.
  • Ibis Landing: 7 days, released at midnight; groups of 16 or more can book 8 days out by phone, handy for a family outing.
  • Stoneybrook: 1 week for the public.

For a family round over the holidays, Valencia lets juniors 15 and under play free with a paying adult, and the Tiburon Black's Family tees measure 3,975 yards. See our Naples tee times guide.

Naples golf in December and January for snowbirds

For most snowbirds, Naples golf in December and January is the first half of a season. A few things to know:

  • Driving down: snow on I-75 in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, or in the Appalachians, can slow December and January trips. Toronto to downtown Naples is about 2,397 km (OSRM, about 28 hours).
  • Hibiscus: Hibiscus Golf Club is in its last public winter before closing in spring 2027 to become a private club. Its Frequent Player Card gives 20% off; see the Hibiscus course guide.
  • Lely's two public courses: Flamingo Island and Mustang share one public tee sheet in East Naples; the Flamingo Island course guide has the details.

Our Naples winter golf guide covers how a full season runs, from Naples golf in December and January through Easter.

Off the course in winter

Winter is the season for the area's wildlife. Lee County Manatee Park is best on chilly winter mornings, and birding at the Ding Darling refuge on Sanibel peaks in winter. The Naples Winter Wine Festival (January 29-31, 2027) fills the Ritz-Carlton properties and top restaurants that weekend. Our things to do in Naples guide has more.
