Direction and drive time from downtown: Where to stay in Myrtle Beach for golf: North Strand, central Myrtle Beach or the South Strand

Where to stay in Myrtle Beach for golf comes down to which end of the Grand Strand holds your rounds. Stay on the North Strand for Barefoot and Tidewater, in central Myrtle Beach for the Dunes Club, Pine Lakes and Myrtle Beach National, or on the South Strand for Caledonia, True Blue and TPC. The strip runs about 60 miles, so the choice matters.

This guide splits the stays on our map into three bases and shows what each one is close to. Drive times are routed estimates from the map, without traffic.

Quick facts

  • Length of the board: about 60 miles from Little River to Pawleys Island.
  • North Strand: Barefoot's four courses, Tidewater, Little River and Longs.
  • Central Myrtle Beach: the Dunes Club, Pine Lakes, Grande Dunes, Myrtlewood, Myrtle Beach National, Legends.
  • South Strand: Caledonia, True Blue, Pawleys Plantation, TPC Myrtle Beach, the Litchfield courses.
  • Fastest road between the ends: SC 31, the toll-free Carolina Bays Parkway.
  • Worst traffic: summer Saturdays on US 501, US 17 and Ocean Blvd.

North Strand: stay by Barefoot and Tidewater

The North Strand is the right base if your trip is built on Barefoot. The Barefoot Golf Villas are 4 minutes from the Love, Fazio and Norman courses and 5 from the Dye. Barefoot's own stay-and-play package bundles three nights in a two-bedroom villa for four golfers with one round on each course, carts, breakfast at the Resort Clubhouse and 25% off each round against rack. The catch: the villas are on the waterway side, about 10 minutes from the ocean, and the resort site shows prices only as dollar signs, so you need a quote. See the Barefoot Resort golf guide.

For the beach, North Beach Plantation has oceanfront tower condos and villas up to five bedrooms, 7 minutes from the Barefoot courses. Units are privately owned and rented by more than one manager, so fees and amenities vary by booking. Barefoot's site lists it as a package lodging option.

The value pick is the Hampton Inn North Myrtle Beach-Harbourgate on the Intracoastal, with free breakfast and an indoor pool. It is 8 minutes from Tidewater and River Hills and 10 from Glen Dornoch, and it is the handiest base for the North Carolina border courses. See the Tidewater course guide.

From the north end, the South Strand is a long way. Tidewater is 38 minutes from the SkyWheel, and Caledonia another 40 minutes the other way, so a North Strand group should keep most rounds north.

Central Myrtle Beach: the middle of everything

Central Myrtle Beach is the default for first trips. You are close to the Dunes Club, Pine Lakes, Grande Dunes and Myrtlewood, 19 minutes from the Myrtle Beach National courses, and on the doorstep of the restaurants and bars.

Oceanfront resorts. Kingston Resorts has one- to four-bedroom condos with full kitchens plus an Embassy Suites tower, 4 minutes from Arcadian Shores. Book golf through its golf department and the group discount waives resort and parking fees, takes 30% off rooms and up to 25% off tee times, and adds breakfast at the Embassy Suites or Hilton. Sea Watch Resort sells a Dunes Club package: one round at the Dunes Club plus two at other courses, with a daily breakfast voucher, priced by quote.

On a course. The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes has suites with a bathroom per bedroom beside the Grande Dunes Resort Course, 4 minutes from the Dunes Club and about 10 from Pine Lakes. It was once the route into the private Members Club, but that is not confirmed for 2026, so ask before you count on it.

Value. The Hampton Inn at Broadway at the Beach has free breakfast and parking and is a walk from restaurants and Topgolf, 7 minutes from Pine Lakes and the two Myrtlewood courses. It is about a mile from the ocean.

Inland. The Legends villas sit on a three-course property off US 501, with two- and three-bedroom units, full kitchens and washer-dryers. You give up the beach (15 to 20 minutes away) and evening life. See the Legends golf guide.

The Dunes Club is private with limited guest times and no unaccompanied guest play on Fridays, Saturdays or holiday weekends, so if it is the round your group wants most, a central base and a weekday slot go together. See who can play the Dunes Club.

South Strand: Caledonia, True Blue and Pawleys

Stay south if Caledonia and True Blue are the point of the trip. The True Blue Resort villas sit beside True Blue's tee boxes and are 4 minutes from Caledonia. Caledonia Golf Vacations sells them with package access and pricing at both courses, which the files call the dependable way to get Caledonia times in peak weeks. Units are two- and three-bedroom owner condos for six to eight guests, about 3 miles from the beach. See the Caledonia course guide and the True Blue course guide.

Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort is the area's one-stop booker, with oceanfront and fairway condos, beach homes and villas at Pawleys Plantation and True Blue, plus hot breakfast with golf packages. Its nearest courses are Tradition Club and Litchfield, both 8 minutes away.

For hotels, the Hampton Inn Pawleys Island-Litchfield is close to Willbrook Plantation, and the Hampton Inn Murrells Inlet is 6 minutes from Wachesaw East and Blackmoor and 8 from TPC. Spring is not cheap here: the Pawleys Hampton averaged $258.89 a night for an April 2026 stay, per HotelPlanner guest reports. See Pawleys Island golf and Murrells Inlet golf.

How to choose

  1. List the rounds you most want first. If two of them are Caledonia and the Dunes Club, you will drive either way; if they are all Barefoot, stay north.
  2. Count the group. Foursomes fit a two-bedroom villa; eight golfers fit the four-bedroom villas at Pawleys Plantation or the four- and five-bedroom villas at The Breakers.
  3. Decide on the beach. Golf villas at Barefoot, Legends and True Blue are not beachfront. If the beach matters, pick an oceanfront resort and drive to golf.
  4. Watch the fees. Several resorts charge resort and parking fees; Kingston waives them for golf groups booked through its golf department.
  5. Avoid summer Saturdays on US 501. The router times here do not include traffic; add 20 to 60 minutes or more on summer and event Saturdays.

Questions golfers ask

What is the best area to stay in Myrtle Beach for golf?

It depends on the courses you want. The North Strand puts you next to Barefoot's four courses and Tidewater, central Myrtle Beach is closest to the Dunes Club, Pine Lakes and Grande Dunes, and the South Strand is the base for Caledonia, True Blue and TPC Myrtle Beach. The whole strip runs about 60 miles, so pick the end that holds most of your rounds.

Is it better to stay in North Myrtle Beach or Myrtle Beach for golf?

North Myrtle Beach suits a trip built on Barefoot, Tidewater and the Little River courses; Barefoot Resort's villas are 4 to 5 minutes from its courses on our drive estimates. Central Myrtle Beach is better for the Dunes Club, Pine Lakes and Myrtle Beach National, and for restaurants. Tidewater is 38 minutes from the SkyWheel, so a central base adds driving to North Strand rounds.

Where should I stay to play Caledonia and True Blue?

On the South Strand. The True Blue Resort villas sit on True Blue, about 4 minutes from Caledonia, and are sold by Caledonia Golf Vacations with package pricing at both courses. Caledonia is 40 minutes from the SkyWheel, so a central Myrtle Beach base means a long drive each way.

Are Myrtle Beach golf villas on the beach?

Mostly not. Barefoot's Golf Villas are on the waterway side, about 10 minutes from the ocean, Legends is inland about 15 to 20 minutes from the beach, and True Blue villas are about 3 miles from the beach. For oceanfront rooms, look at North Beach Plantation, Kingston or the Ocean Blvd resorts.

What is the cheapest place to stay for a Myrtle Beach golf trip?

Among the hotels in our files, the Country Inn & Suites in Murrells Inlet showed the lowest listing, from $76 a night on Kayak in an undated snapshot seen November 1, 2026. Hampton Inn Broadway at the Beach averaged $118.56 a night for a January 2026 stay, per HotelPlanner guest reports. Rates change and these are not quotes.

Do I need a car for a Myrtle Beach golf trip?

Yes. The board runs about 60 miles from Little River to Pawleys Island and many courses are inland along SC 31, SC 22, SC 707, SC 9 and US 501. Uber and Lyft work for dinners but are not practical for daily golf with clubs.
