Tee-time ticket: Private golf clubs in Myrtle Beach: what is closed to you and the guest routes in

Private golf clubs in Myrtle Beach are few, and only one has a real guest route: The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, which releases limited guest times Sunday to Thursday and sells rounds through some oceanfront hotels. The Grande Dunes Members Club, Wachesaw Plantation, The Reserve and DeBordieu are for members and their guests. The Surf may take a call.

That is good news for a golf trip. The private golf clubs in Myrtle Beach are the exception, and almost everything else on the Grand Strand sells tee times to visitors, including several member clubs that run semi-private. This guide sorts the private clubs from the semi-private ones, explains each guest route the files can back, and points to the public course nearest each one.

Quick facts

  • Private with a guest route: The Dunes Golf and Beach Club (limited guest times, never Fri, Sat or holiday weekends).
  • Private, members and their guests: Grande Dunes Members Club, Wachesaw Plantation Club, The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island, DeBordieu Club.
  • Private, call and ask: The Surf Golf and Beach Club (current outside-play policy not confirmed).
  • Semi-private, public times sold: Prestwick, Long Bay, Aberdeen, Willbrook, Pawleys Plantation, Indigo Creek, Barefoot Dye, plus three North Carolina clubs.
  • Status unclear: Conway Golf and Country Club. Call first.
  • Time zone: Eastern Time.

The Dunes Golf and Beach Club: the one worth chasing

The Dunes Club opened in 1948 as a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design, with later work by Roger Rulewich in 2000 and Rees Jones in 2003 and 2013. It hosted the 2026 ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic on the PGA Tour and is due to host again May 13-16, 2027. From the back it plays 7,370 yards with a 148 slope, the stiffest numbers on this list.

It is private, but the club sells a limited number of guest tee times through its online booking engine. The rules from the club:

  • No unaccompanied guest play on Fridays, Saturdays or holiday weekends.
  • The club closes Mondays for maintenance in winter and summer.
  • Guest times only appear when the tee sheet is not taken by members, tournaments or maintenance. If nothing shows, call 843-449-5914.
  • No booking window is published.

No rack rate is published. One listing gives $125 to $250 by season, but it is undated, so treat it as a rough guide and expect a top-end price.

The more dependable route for a weekday round is a hotel package. Sea Watch Resort sells a Dunes Club Package: two or more nights, one round at the Dunes Club, two rounds at other courses such as Blackmoor, Aberdeen or Litchfield, green and cart fees and a daily breakfast voucher, priced by quote as of November 2026. Crown Reef and Captain's Quarters sell the same style of package. The guest rules still apply, so build the trip so the Dunes round lands Sunday to Thursday. Our Dunes Golf and Beach Club guide goes deeper.

One trap: Dunes Village Resort is five minutes from the club but has no confirmed Dunes Club deal. The name does not get you on.

Grande Dunes Members Club

The Members Club is a 2005 Nick Price and Craig Schreiner course, owned and run by Heritage Golf Group, which bought it in October 2022, with about 800 members. It is for members and their guests.

The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes used to be the way in. Older articles said a Marina Inn stay was required and guests were treated as members, and the inn once sold packages that included the Members Club. A 2014 report said public play there would end, and no 2025 or 2026 source confirms Marina Inn guests still get on. Ask the inn and the club before you book. The public option in the same development is the Grande Dunes Resort Course, which plays 7,618 yards from the back. Our Grande Dunes golf guide compares the two.

The Surf Golf and Beach Club

The Surf is a 1960 George Cobb club near Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach, with membership by initiation fee plus dues. A 2009 article said visitors could book before 9:30 AM or after 1:30 PM when no club events were on, at $125 in peak season and $80 in summer back then, and that it had no hotel or package arrangements. Those prices are outdated and the current outside-play policy is not confirmed, so call the club. No stay unlocks it.

The South Strand private clubs

Three clubs south of Myrtle Beach have no public route in the files.

  • Wachesaw Plantation Club in Murrells Inlet is a member-owned Tom Fazio course from 1984, in a gated community. Reports say guests must be with a member to get guest rates and use the range. In June 2026 it announced member upgrades due to finish in spring 2027. Next door, Wachesaw East is a separate public course.
  • The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island is a private Greg Norman course in The Reserve community. It belongs to the McConnell Golf network, so McConnell members have reciprocal access. There are no public tee times.
  • DeBordieu Club is a 1987 Pete Dye course inside the gated DeBordieu Colony near Georgetown. One listing says DeBordieu rental guests with a golf-only membership can play on payment of fees; otherwise it is members and their guests.

Semi-private clubs that sell public tee times

These are not private golf clubs in the Myrtle Beach sense that matters to a visitor. Several Grand Strand clubs have members but sell public times every day. Members come first, so book early.

The Willbrook and Pawleys Plantation figures come from a package operator's comparison for a Saturday May 2 tee time, captured in January 2025. All prices were seen by November 1, 2026 and change by day and hour.

A few notes from the files:

  • Prestwick says it "has the look and feel of a private club, but is open to the public." It won the 2025 course-of-the-year awards from both the Myrtle Beach Area and South Carolina golf course owners associations. Public times are limited and Saturdays sell out. See the Prestwick Country Club guide and Prestwick course guide.
  • Long Bay is a 1989 Jack Nicklaus course with a 146 slope. A third-party guide says members hold morning times, so afternoons are easier, though that is not official policy.
  • Barefoot Dye is home to the Dye Club membership and is the only semi-private course of Barefoot's four. Public availability can be thinner than on Love, Fazio or Norman. Our Barefoot Dye course guide has the tees.
  • Aberdeen was built as 27 holes. One 2026 reviewer says a nine has closed, which is unconfirmed, so ask when you book.

Over the North Carolina line, Brunswick Plantation, The Links at Brick Landing and Lockwood Folly also run semi-private and sell public times. Our Brunswick Islands golf guide covers them.

Clubs with unclear status

Conway Golf and Country Club is listed as semi-private by some directories, and one says nine holes, possibly outdated. No 2026 evidence was found either way: status unclear, call first at 843-365-3621. It is not on our map.

What to play instead of a private club

If a private golf club in Myrtle Beach is out of reach, these public courses sit closest to each one.

  • Instead of Wachesaw Plantation: Wachesaw East, a 1996 Clyde Johnston course next door. The course's online tee sheet showed $69-$76 in the morning and $67 after 2 PM for Monday, November 2, 2026. It sits in our Murrells Inlet golf cluster.
  • Instead of the Grande Dunes Members Club: the Grande Dunes Resort Course in the same development, at $222 in the morning on a package operator's rate for October 23, 2026.
  • Instead of The Reserve or DeBordieu: the public South Strand courses around Pawleys Island, such as Pawleys Plantation and Willbrook.
  • For the member-club feel: Prestwick or Pawleys Plantation.

For every course that sells tee times, start with Myrtle Beach golf courses. For how hotel packages bundle rounds like the Dunes Club, see Myrtle Beach golf packages, and for courses that have shut for good, our list of closed golf courses in Myrtle Beach. Comparing towns? Destin has its own private golf clubs guide.

Plan it on the map

Open the Myrtle Beach golf map to see the private clubs, the semi-private ones that sell times and the public course next to each. The $30 plan builds the trip around the guest rules, so a Dunes Club round lands on a day the club takes guests.

Questions golfers ask

Can visitors play The Dunes Golf and Beach Club?

Sometimes. The Dunes Club is a private member club that releases a limited number of guest tee times through its own booking engine. Unaccompanied guests cannot play on Fridays, Saturdays or holiday weekends, and the club closes Mondays for maintenance in winter and summer. If no times show online, the club says to call 843-449-5914.

Is the Grande Dunes Members Club open to hotel guests?

Not that we can confirm. Older articles said Marina Inn at Grande Dunes guests could play it in the inn's packages, but no 2025 or 2026 source confirms that still holds. It is a private club owned by Heritage Golf Group, so ask the Marina Inn and the club before you count on a round.

Which private clubs on the Grand Strand have no guest route at all?

Wachesaw Plantation Club in Murrells Inlet, The Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island and the DeBordieu Club near Georgetown are for members and their guests. The files found no hotel or package access to any of them. The Reserve is in the McConnell Golf network, so McConnell members have reciprocal access.

Can I call The Surf Golf and Beach Club for a tee time?

You can try. A 2009 article said visitors could book before 9:30 AM or after 1:30 PM when no club events were on, and that the club had no hotel or package deals. The current outside-play policy is not confirmed, so call the club and do not plan a trip around it.

What does semi-private mean in Myrtle Beach?

It usually means a member club that also sells public tee times. Prestwick, Long Bay, Aberdeen, Willbrook, Pawleys Plantation, Indigo Creek and the Barefoot Dye Course all work this way. Members get priority, so public times can be thinner, especially in the morning and on spring and fall weekends.

How do I get a Dunes Club round in a package?

Sea Watch Resort sells a Dunes Club Package of two or more nights with one Dunes round, two rounds elsewhere and a daily breakfast voucher, priced by quote. Crown Reef and Captain's Quarters sell the same style of package. The Dunes round still follows the club's guest rules, so plan it for Sunday to Thursday.

What should I play instead of a private club?

Wachesaw East sits next door to the private Wachesaw Plantation Club and showed fall 2026 online rates from $67 after 2 PM. The Grande Dunes Resort Course is the public course in the same development as the Members Club. Prestwick, a member club that sells public times, won both 2025 course-of-the-year awards.
