Course elevations: Pine Lakes Country Club: playing the Granddaddy of Myrtle Beach golf

Pine Lakes Country Club is a public course despite its name: the Grand Strand's first golf course, opened in 1927 and nicknamed the Granddaddy. It is a short par 70 in mid-town Myrtle Beach with a large historic clubhouse, about 10 minutes from the SkyWheel. A Saturday, May 2 spring tee time was $175 to $200 a round on a chart published January 2026; a package operator listed $128 for an October 5, 2026 morning.

Founders Group International owns it, so Pine Lakes can be booked with the group's other courses in one transaction. This guide covers the history the club and its listings publish, how to book, what the rates look like by season, the tees and the grass. Prices change daily; read every figure as a guide.

The history of Pine Lakes Country Club

Pine Lakes is where Grand Strand golf began. Robert White laid it out in 1927, making it the first course on the Grand Strand, which is why it is called the Granddaddy. The club leans into it: the street is Granddaddy Drive, and the large historic clubhouse is part of the reason people book.

The course itself is a Golden Age parkland layout. At par 70 and under 6,700 yards, it is short by modern resort standards, but a 134 slope from the back tee shows it is not a pushover. Craig Schreiner restored it in 2008, and the club added two new sets of tees in 2026.

That is as much history as our sources publish. If you want the full story, the clubhouse is the place to ask.

Booking a tee time at Pine Lakes

Pine Lakes takes public tee times on its own site, pinelakes.com, which links to a teetimecentralonline.com tee sheet. The club says the best rates are guaranteed online. It is also sold through golf package operators.

Because it is a Founders Group course, you can book it alongside the group's 20 sister courses in one transaction, which makes it an easy anchor for a trip built around them. Our guide to Founders Group golf courses in Myrtle Beach lists which courses that covers. The booking window was not published.

Families can use the club's Kids Play Free deal. The club also hosts group dinners and events in the clubhouse, which is useful for a buddies trip's big night.

Pine Lakes rates

Pine Lakes has no published seasonal rack-rate table. These are the dated figures in our files:

When Rate type Early AM AM PM Late PM
Sat May 2 (spring)Package single round-$200$175-
Sat May 2 (spring)Course direct-$200$182-
Oct 5, 2026 (fall)Package operator$128$128$136$91

The spring figures come from a Coastal Golfaway chart published January 9, 2026; the chart says it was captured "January 7, 2025," which likely means 2026. The October figures are from myrtlebeachgolftrips.com, seen November 1, 2026.

Two things stand out. In spring, booking direct was no more expensive than the package single round in the morning. And the fall date was far cheaper than the spring Saturday, so the same course can cost very different amounts depending on when you go. For more on that pattern, read Myrtle Beach golf rates and our best time to golf in Myrtle Beach.

The tees

Tee Yards Men (rating/slope) Women (rating/slope)
Tee #46,67572.3 / 134-
Tee #36,30570.5 / 128-
Tee #25,75668.1 / 12074.0 / 131
Tee #14,75868.6 / 111-

These are GolfPass figures from before the two 2026 tee additions, so the card at the course will have more options. For most groups, Tee #3 at 6,305 yards is the right test.

Grass and winter conditions

Pine Lakes is listed with seashore paspalum rather than bermuda: SeaDwarf on the greens per GolfPass and GolfNow, and GolfNow lists paspalum on the fairways as well. It was overseeded wall to wall, rough included, in winter 2025-26, according to a myrtlebeachgolftrips.com list of the Strand's best overseeded courses published early in 2026. Whether it will do the same for 2026-27 was not confirmed.

That matters for a winter trip. A wall-to-wall overseed means green fairways and rough while non-overseeded bermuda courses go tan. Aerification dates were not published. Our guide to Myrtle Beach golf winter conditions explains the difference, and Myrtle Beach golf in winter covers what else to expect.

Practice and the clubhouse

  • Practice: driving range, chipping area, putting green and a teaching pro (GolfNow).
  • Clubhouse: the historic clubhouse has dining and event space and hosts group dinners.
  • Family: Kids Play Free deal (club site).

Pine Lakes against other central Myrtle Beach courses

Pine Lakes is one of the most central full-length courses on our map. Here is how it compares with others nearby, using the most recent dated rate for each. They are not all the same type of rate, so read the label.

Drive times are routed estimates without traffic. Myrtlewood is another Founders course, so it bundles with Pine Lakes. The Dunes Club is private and sells only a limited number of guest times, never on Fridays, Saturdays or holiday weekends; see who can play the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Grande Dunes is covered in our Grande Dunes golf guide and the Grande Dunes Resort Course guide.

Is Pine Lakes Country Club worth it?

Play it once for the setting. It is the Strand's original course, it sits ten minutes from most central hotels, and the large historic clubhouse is part of the round. The catch is price: on that May Saturday it cost about the same as the renovated King's North inland, for a shorter par 70. In fall, on a weekday or in the afternoon, it is easier to justify. See the Pine Lakes course guide for the full record.

Plan it on the map

Open the Myrtle Beach golf map to see Pine Lakes Country Club in the middle of town, the Founders courses around it and the oceanfront hotels a few minutes away. The $30 plan fits the Granddaddy into a day-by-day trip, or into a weekly rotation for a winter stay.
