How the 14 courses are tied to Founders Group
Our files describe the link in different words course by course, and we keep that wording:
- Owned: Pine Lakes, Myrtlewood (Palmetto and PineHills), Myrtle Beach National (King's North, SouthCreek, West, "owned/operated") and Wild Wing Avocet.
- Managed: Founders Club, Willbrook (per FGI listings), Litchfield and Pawleys Plantation.
- Described as an FGI course: Long Bay, and TPC Myrtle Beach, which sits "in the FGI family" and is one of the 21 courses in FGI's fall 2026 all-inclusive package.
- Credited on the course site: River Hills, whose site footer credits Founders Group.
Several other courses are sold on myrtlebeachgolf.com but are not tied to FGI in our files, including Tradition Club and River Club near Pawleys and Glen Dornoch in Little River. Glen Dornoch's own site says it belongs to the Glens Golf Group.
What Founders Group means for booking
One cart, one checkout. Myrtlebeachgolf.com lets you book several Founders courses in one transaction, with live per-golfer rates that include the cart. Pine Lakes, Myrtlewood, the three Myrtle Beach National courses, River Hills and TPC also run their own booking sites, so you can still book a single round direct.
Perks for volume. The site lists Founders Inclusive (lunch, two drinks and range balls), multi-round discounts and a $100 gift card after four or more Founders rounds. A group playing five rounds can build the whole trip inside the family and collect the gift card.
Deposits and timing. The site's FAQ, seen November 1, 2026, lists a $100 per person deposit with the balance due 30 days before arrival, and advises booking as far ahead as possible for spring and fall weekends.
Package vs direct. In the spring chart above, the package rate per round was the same as or below the direct rate at every course. The biggest gap was PineHills in the morning, $130 against $144. The difference is small, so choose on convenience and extras rather than the per-round price alone. Our Myrtle Beach golf packages guide goes further.
For the booking systems across the whole Strand, see Myrtle Beach tee times.
Building a trip from Founders courses
The 14 courses cover every part of the Strand, so a group can stay anywhere and play mostly inside the family:
- Central Myrtle Beach base: Pine Lakes, the two Myrtlewood courses and the three at Myrtle Beach National are all within about 20 minutes of the SkyWheel. Our Pine Lakes Country Club and Myrtle Beach National golf guides cover them.
- North Strand base: River Hills and Long Bay.
- South Strand base: TPC, Willbrook, Litchfield, Founders Club and Pawleys Plantation. See Pawleys Island golf and the TPC Myrtle Beach guide.
A balanced five-round trip might mix one splurge (King's North, Pawleys Plantation or TPC), two mid-priced rounds (Myrtlewood Palmetto, Wild Wing Avocet, Long Bay) and two value rounds (SouthCreek, West, Founders Club). For course-level detail, see the King's North course guide, the Pine Lakes course guide and the Pawleys Plantation course guide.
Recent work on Founders Group courses
FGI has put money into several of its courses in the last few years:
- King's North: a two-phase Brandon Johnson renovation. The front nine reopened in October 2024 and the back nine in October 2025, with greens expanded about 36% and regrassed to TifEagle.
- Wild Wing Avocet: greens regrassed to Tif3D bermuda in July 2026 and a new clubhouse for fall 2026. The nine-hole Hummingbird course stayed open during the work.
- Long Bay: closed May 17 to August 14, 2023 for new TifEagle greens, expanded about 66% back to original size.
- River Hills: TifEagle greens in 2022 and rebuilt bunkers in 2023.
- Pawleys Plantation: greens, bunkers and clubhouse renovation, with a wall-to-wall overseed for winter 2023-24.
- Myrtlewood Palmetto: closed June 24 to September 1, 2019 for a renovation.
Founders Group courses in winter
FGI said 11 of its courses went wall-to-wall with ryegrass around 2019 to 2020. More recently, King's North, Pine Lakes and Wild Wing Avocet were named on an early-2026 list of wall-to-wall overseeded courses for winter 2025-26, and both Myrtlewood courses appear on an undated list. TPC has overseeded wall-to-wall in recent winters. None of these had confirmed 2026-27 plans in our files, so ask before a snowbird booking. Our winter conditions guide explains the trade-offs.
Litchfield and Founders Club zoning
Founders Group sought a higher-density use for Litchfield Country Club and Founders Club, both zoned for about four homes per acre. Georgetown County Council took up the issue in May 2025 and created a new Neighborhood Amenity zoning district for both courses, approved June 24, 2025, that would allow about 24 homes per course if either ever closed. Officials said neither course had plans to close, and FGI said it had no intention of selling either. Both are open and bookable.
