Coyote Springs Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus Signature course in the desert about 55 miles southwest of Mesquite, ranked #11 in Nevada by Golf Digest. It's worth a full day out from Mesquite, especially in September, because its year-round rye and bentgrass mean it never closes for overseed. Google put the drive at 54 minutes via I-15 and NV-168, and fall 2026 rates ran $123 to $214 with cart.
Here's how to plan the day.

There's no hotel or housing on site. The wider Coyote Springs housing project is mostly unbuilt, and in January 2024 the Nevada Supreme Court upheld the state water engineer's authority to halt it. That fight concerns the housing, not the golf course. The course was open with bookable times through Jan 21, 2027 when checked in October 2026.
Getting there
From Mesquite
Take I-15 south about 31 miles, then Moapa Road and NV-168 west for about 20 miles. The clubhouse is on NV-168 (Glendale-Moapa Road), a short way east of the US-93 junction, so you never touch US-93 from Mesquite.
| Source | Time | Distance |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps (Fri Oct 23, 2026, about 2:15 PM) | 54 min | 55.5 mi |
| OSRM router estimate | 69 min | 55.6 mi |
| Club FAQ | 45 min | - |
Budget about an hour each way. Fill the tank in Mesquite: NV-168 passes only small Moapa Valley settlements. The club advises against relying on Uber or Lyft, since rides back are hard to get.
From Las Vegas
From the Strip, take I-15 north to US-93 north and turn onto NV-168 at the junction. Google gave 56 minutes from the center of the Strip; the club says about 55. That makes Coyote Springs a natural stop on the way between Las Vegas and Mesquite: land at LAS, play, then drive on to Mesquite. If you are based on the Strip and weighing it against the drive to Mesquite, see the Las Vegas golf day trip to Mesquite.
The course
Coyote Springs sits on rolling ground above the Pahranagat Wash, with mountain views. Fairways are wide, water is in play on 11 holes, and the bunkering is heavy. The greens are large, sloping and fast, and they're the real defense. Golf Digest notes uneven fairway lies and frequent valley wind.
Holes to know
- #2 "Deuces Wild": a par 5 of 518 yards from the Blue tees that plays uphill. Few reach it in two, bunkers guard the second landing area, and the club compares the green to Augusta's.
- #3 "The Flop": a 185-yard par 3 from the Blue tees, an iron carry over water to a subtle green.
- #4 "4th Street": a 420-yard par 4 from the Blue tees and the course guide's signature view. A miss left off the tee is punished.
- #11 "YO!": a 542-yard par 5 from the Blue tees, reachable for long hitters. Everyone else works around the "Bear Tracks" bunkers to a small green.
Tees, ratings and slopes
USGA ratings, checked October 2026, matching the official scorecard.
| Tee | Yards | Men rating/slope | Women rating/slope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black | 7,471 | 76.8/149 | - |
| Blue | 6,807 | 72.8/144 | - |
| White | 6,215 | 70.6/139 | 77.4/148 |
| Gold | 5,705 | 66.5/121 | 73.0/139 |
| Red | 5,288 | - | 69.8/131 |
Play the Blue or White tees unless you're a low single-digit player. The wide fairways make the middle tees much more playable than the slopes suggest.
Coyote Springs Golf Club green fees
All prices are from GolfNow (facility 6204), seen Oct 23, 2026, because the club's own booking engine wouldn't return results. Direct-booking prices may differ. Green fees include the cart and range balls.
| Period | 18 holes with cart |
|---|---|
| Late Oct - Nov 29, 2026 | $123 - $214; most days about $140 - $190; Fri and Sat $184 - $214 |
| Nov 30, 2026 - Jan 21, 2027 | $119 Mon-Thu, $130 Fri and Sun, $137 Sat |
| Spring 2027 | Not loaded yet |
An example from Thu Nov 12, 2026: $158 at 7:00 AM, $161 from 8:00 to 9:40, $175 at 10:00, with a few $148.99 times. The winter prices showed only mid-morning times, so they may be base rates before dynamic pricing kicks in.
No twilight rate or afternoon times were shown online; in November the last GolfNow time was about 12:30 PM. Juniors 15 and under pay $40 with a paying adult. For how its price and slope compare with Mesquite's showpiece, see Wolf Creek vs Coyote Springs.
The $50 replay
A $50 replay is offered after a full-rate morning round (6:30 to 10:00 AM tee times). Stand-by replays usually go out around 1:30 to 2:00 PM; guaranteed replays have to be booked by phone or email. In summer (May 26 to Aug 31) replay rounds must be off the course by 5 PM. If you're driving an hour each way, 36 holes is the way to make the trip pay. See 36 holes a day in Mesquite.
Nevada and Washington County residents
Nevada residents and Washington County, Utah residents get dynamic resident pricing through a separate booking site. You need a Nevada driver's license or state ID, or a Washington County, UT driver's license; bills and leases aren't accepted. The Coyote Club costs $159 for 12 months and includes one free round, up to 22% off the resident rate, five guest passes and replays up to 20% off.
Booking and policies
- No public booking window is published. GolfNow had times loaded through Jan 21, 2027 (about 90 days out) in October 2026.
- Groups of 16 or more can book up to a year ahead.
- A credit card is required. Cancel 48 hours ahead (call 725-216-2989) or pay the no-show charge.
- No fivesomes. Book a 3 and a 2.
- Non-golfers can ride along for $35.
- No outside coolers, but carts have side coolers stocked with ice and water.
- Dress code: collared golf shirts and golf shoes; no jeans, t-shirts or tank tops.
Practice and food
The practice facility is huge: the club lists 19 to 22 acres, with 13 target greens, a short-game area and a 10,000 sq ft putting green. Range balls come with a round; unlimited balls without a round are $15.
Mitch's Bar & Grill serves breakfast from 7 to 11 AM daily, plus lunch and dinner, and is known for its burgers. A beverage cart runs on the course. Callaway rental sets cost $60.
A sample Coyote Springs day
- 6:00 AM: leave Mesquite with a full tank.
- 7:00 AM: breakfast at Mitch's, warm up on the range.
- 8:00 AM: first round.
- About 1:30 PM: stand-by replay at $50, or a guaranteed replay booked ahead.
- Evening: drive back to Mesquite. Both are on Pacific Time, so no clock change.
In winter, the online times we saw started mid-morning (about 9:20 AM), so shift the plan later.
Allow about 4.5 hours per round, the club's own average. Some 2026 reviewers reported rounds over five hours on busy days.
Wind can be a factor. Golf Digest says it's often present in the valley, and one May 2026 review reported 36 to 45 mph gusts. Morning times are usually calmer.
Why September is the time to go
Mesquite's 18-hole courses close in turn for two to five weeks between late August and early October to overseed. Using 2026 dates (2025 for CasaBlanca and the Palms, whose 2026 dates weren't published), the stored dates leave roughly a two-week stretch from about Sep 14 to 26 with no 18-hole course in Mesquite open. Coyote Springs has no fall overseed and no fall greens aerification, so it fills that gap. Its own greens were aerified May 12-13, 2026, followed by about two weeks of discounted rates. Our September overseed guide has the full Mesquite calendar.
Fitting it into a Mesquite golf trip
Coyote Springs works as:
- The September course on any trip from late August to early October.
- An arrival or departure round between LAS and Mesquite.
- A fifth day on a longer trip. Our 5-day Mesquite golf itinerary builds it in.

Questions golfers ask
How far is Coyote Springs Golf Club from Mesquite?
About 55 miles. Google Maps gave 54 minutes via I-15 south and NV-168 west on Oct 23, 2026, a router estimate gives 69 minutes, and the club says 45. You don't use US-93 from Mesquite; the clubhouse is on NV-168 a short way east of the US-93 junction.
How much does it cost to play Coyote Springs?
On GolfNow, seen October 2026: $123 to $214 with cart from late October to Nov 29, 2026 (most days about $140 to $190), then a flat $119 Mon-Thu, $130 Fri and Sun and $137 Sat from Nov 30, 2026 to Jan 21, 2027. Is Coyote Springs open in September?
Yes. Its tees, fairways and approaches are perennial ryegrass and its greens are A-4 bentgrass all year, so there's no fall overseed and no fall greens aerification. It's the only 18-hole course in the Mesquite area that doesn't close for fall overseed.
Who designed Coyote Springs Golf Club?
Jack Nicklaus, as a Signature design; GolfPass also credits Chet Williams of Nicklaus Design. It opened in 2008, when Golf Digest named it the #2 best new public course behind Chambers Bay. Golf Digest ranks it #11 in Nevada.

The club advises against relying on Uber or Lyft, since rides back to town are hard to get. Drive yourself and fill the tank in Mesquite; NV-168 passes only small Moapa Valley settlements.
