The course runs along the Rio Grande levee west of Brownsville and is lined with mature oaks. The club describes its greens as quick. Par and tee data were not published in our sources, so check the card in the pro shop. The River Bend course guide shows the course on the 3D map.

Access and booking

River Bend is a public course. You do not need to stay in the park or hold a membership to play. Book in one of three ways:

  1. The River Bend app, on the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Chronogolf, which lists River Bend with "reserve now, pay later."
  3. The pro shop, on 956-548-0192.

The booking window is not published. Peak Winter Texan season runs roughly November to March, and morning tee times across the Valley are hardest to get from January to mid-March, so book ahead for winter mornings. A men's league plays here; ask the pro shop when it tees off so you can avoid or join it.

River Bend rates and memberships

The club website posts no daily rates. The membership prices below were seen on October 26, 2026 and will change:

Membership Monthly price Plus
Seasonal (3 months), individual$200$100 trail fee or $150 cart fee a month
Seasonal (3 months), family$300$225 trail or $300 cart a month
Annual, individual$150$75 trail or $100 cart a month
Annual, family$275

For daily play, an undated listing shows $38 for 18 holes, and a 2023 review cites $35 to $49 with a cart. Ask for the current figure when you book.

What a season costs

A single golfer on the 3-month seasonal membership using club carts would pay $200 plus $150 a month, or $1,050 for the three months. With your own cart and the trail fee, it is $300 a month, or $900. Ask the pro shop exactly what the membership includes, such as how many rounds, tee-time priority and range access, since those terms were not published. Our Rio Grande Valley golf passes guide compares River Bend's numbers with other courses' season deals.

The RV resort at River Bend

River Bend Resort is a quiet, gated 55+ park on the course. Some RV sites back onto the fairways. What the research found:

  • Few sites to rent. Campendium lists 15; most lots are owner-occupied.
  • Rates by phone. There is no official RV rate card online and no online booking. Call the RV lot rentals office on 956-336-0905, Monday to Friday 9 AM to 5 PM.
  • Minimum stay. A December 2023 review reported a 3-night minimum and a $50 refundable deposit for the gate pass and remote. These are not official terms.
  • Amenities: heated pool and hot tub, four pickleball courts, tennis, shuffleboard, a clubhouse, gated entry and a driving range and restaurant at the course.
  • Birding: the park is near Resaca de la Palma State Park.

The trade-off is location. The park is isolated on the river west of Brownsville, about 73 minutes from downtown McAllen on our routed estimate. If your winter is centred on the Brownsville and Harlingen courses, that does not matter much; if you want the McAllen and Mission courses too, a mid-Valley base is better. Our guide to RV resorts with golf in the Valley compares the options, and if you are weighing a winter elsewhere, golf at Yuma RV resorts is the Arizona equivalent.

Brownsville Golf Center is the city course, par 70 and 6,144 yards, with a phased renovation under way in 2026 and no published rates; see the Brownsville Golf Center course guide. Rancho Viejo's two resort 18s are the step up, with El Angel the friendlier par 70; see the El Angel course guide and our Rancho Viejo golf guide. Valley International Country Club in Brownsville is status unclear, call first; our Valley International Country Club post explains why.

A weekly rotation from River Bend could be three rounds at home on the membership, one at Rancho Viejo, and one at Brownsville Golf Center or Laguna Vista. See Brownsville golf courses for the full east-side picture and winter Texan golf for how a season usually runs.

Weather on the river

Brownsville's NOAA normals are a good guide: January about 72.6F highs and 53.1F lows, February 76.2F and 56.9F, and March 80.6F and 62.0F. November, at about 80.3F and 60.8F, is one of the best months, and hurricane season ends November 30. The Brownsville side is wetter than McAllen, with about 26.8 inches a year, 5.7 inches in September and more drizzle and fog with winter fronts. Summer highs reach about 96.3F in August. Play early from May to September.

Getting to River Bend

Brownsville/South Padre Island International (BRO) is the closest airport for River Bend and the rest of the Brownsville courses, with American Eagle to Dallas/Fort Worth, United Express to Houston-Intercontinental, Breeze to Orlando and Aerus to Monterrey. Valley International in Harlingen (HRL) has Southwest and winter nonstops from Minneapolis and, from December 19, 2026, Chicago O'Hare, which suits Winter Texans from the Midwest. There is no nonstop from Canada into any Valley airport, so Canadians connect through Dallas, Houston or Phoenix, or drive down with the RV.

After the round

Brownsville has a few good half-day stops. Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park, the site of the first battle of the US-Mexican War, is free. The Gladys Porter Zoo is a 26-acre zoo in central Brownsville with indoor areas for a drizzly day. For birders, see birding and golf in the Rio Grande Valley.
